Sanderling House is located on the superb Retallack Resort, close to the picturesque village of Winnard’s Perch, just six miles from one of Cornwall’s most popular resorts, Padstow. Brimming with art galleries, the celebrated foodie restaurants of Rick Steins and Paul Ainsworths, gin bars, pubs and independent shops, Padstow is a delight all year round. The sensational beaches of Watergate, Harlyn, Treyarnon, Porth Cothan and Mawgan Porth are just a few miles away.
The splendid Retallack Resort sits in one hundred acres of countryside with luxurious amenities and a fantastic array of activities for the whole family. Guests staying at Sanderling House enjoy complimentary membership to the Retallack Resorts Health Club where you can enjoy the beautiful indoor heated swimming pool and the gorgeous wellness area with its steam room and sauna. You can also indulge in luxurious Elemis treatments in the spa. Access is also given to the matrix gym and fitness classes though booking is required. The resort also boasts the most current watersports on offer including Surf the FlowRider. This ride offers the ultimate experience in bodyboarding and standup surfing. The resort’s AquaPark enjoys its own inland beach and a total wipeout adventure course with over fifty obstacles. You can fly from the pillow, scale the iceberg, balance the bridge and leap from the top of seriously high obstacles! Families enjoy wakeboarding on the cable-ski, paddleboarding and other watersports at the AquaPark. For a small fee you can check out the famous, well stocked coarse fishing lake on the resort. Retallack Resort is the perfect location for your furry friend too with beautiful countryside walks throughout the estate. There are also excellent cycle paths so you may want to take your cycles along.
Sleeping four guests in luxurious comfort, Sanderling House enjoys a prime spot on the resort with fabulous views of the lake. As well as a stylish interior, the house boasts a beautifully furnished, wraparound terrace where you can enjoy your private hot tub and sauna, an outdoor cabana and log fire, alfresco dining under the stars, all day sunshine and stunning views. Trendy deckchairs complete the picture, perfect spots for your holiday read. The cabana is a dream, providing shade during the day and the perfect canopy at night.
The living space of Sanderling House is open plan in design, making for very easy and comfortable holiday living. The modern kitchen offers excellent appliances for your self catering stay and and includes your indoor dining table. This leads into your bright and airy living area, drowned in natural light through the huge floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The superior furnishings blend beautifully with the natural colour palettes of the decor. Bright colour pops feature by way of gorgeous scatter cushions and other soft furnishings. A cosy log burning fire sits below your wall mounted television for cosy evenings curled up on the sofas. Upstairs you will discover two bedrooms, one a stylish twin with an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower and the other boasting a beautifully dressed king-size bed and a spacious en-suite double shower room. The master king bedroom enjoys a terrace with delightful lake views. Every thing about Sanderling House is luxurious, including the Egyptian cottons, fluffy towels, feather duvets and quality Egyptian waffle dressing gowns. There is plenty of space for coats, wellies and beach toys in the utility room off the hallway.
Despite the beautiful interiors, guests staying at this Cornish wonder will be itching for a soak in that private hot tub, a session in the sauna and a delicious alfresco barbecue followed by a cosy evening by the log fire on the terrace. It is just one treat after another here!

About the surrounding area of Sanderling HouseIf you can bear to leave the brilliant facilities of the Retallack Resort, a Cornish paradise, the scenic Vale of Lanherne landscapes and the renowned Cornish surf awaits. Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth beaches are both within a 10 minute drive of Sanderling House. The charming village of St Mawgan is situated four miles north of Newquay and 2 miles east of Mawgan Porth Beach. The thirteenth century St Mawgan Church is very pretty. Nestled in the wooded Lanherne Valley, the River Menalhyl runs through the village. The stunning and very tranquil Japanese Garden combines the beauty of nature with artistic refinement using shaping and styling of plants and natural elements. Mawgan Porth has a lovely sandy beach in a cove with a little stream running though which is great for the little ones. At low tide you can walk out to see the cliffs and rocks and enjoy all that fresh sea air. There are a number of cosy cafes and pubs across the road to enjoy as well as a wonderful art gallery.
Six miles from Sanderling House, you can discover the delights of the very popular Padstow. Padstow is a charming working fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches at the head of the Camel River. It is very much a foodie destination with Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant a popular choice. It is the start and end of the Camel Cycle Trail and a good base for watersports. Across the water is the wonderful town of Rock.
Newquay has been voted ‘One of the Nation’s Favourite Seaside Towns’ in the prestigious Which Holiday Survey and won Gold for ‘Best Seaside Towns for Families 2019’ by Days Out with the Kids. The beaches and surf are renowned and the tourist entertainment is phenomenal. It is home to some of the world’s best watersports competitions with the Boardmasters Festival and surfing championships held in the resort. There are some wonderful spas in Newquay for relaxation, not to mention the fantastic restaurants to choose from. Children will be happy with Newquay Zoo, Lappa Valley, Pirate’s Quest, Oasis Fun Pools and the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre amongst plenty of other attractions.

Flyngy Pilot Training gives you the opportunity to see Cornwall from a different perspective. You will enjoy its unique coastlines, cliffs and beaches as well as its rural villages and towns. Best Suited For: All AgesSanderling House is perfect for a family holiday. The house is very comfortable and the terrace is excellent. The Retallack Resort is seriously impressive with its own beach on the lake, an indoor pool and fantastic watersports. Thrill seeking children adore the water assault course and the water activities. They can learn a new sport while staying here.
Mawgan Porth Beach is only a few miles away and is perfect for families. There is a little stream running through the beach which is great for little ones to paddle in. Older children will enjoy jumping in the surf or investigating rock pools at low tide. The choice of beach is endless with fantastic opportunities for surfing and other watersports. Fistral Beach is very popular.
Lappa Valley is Newquay’s attraction that transports families on an exciting and nostalgic steam train rides into a secret world of traditional play and family adventures. Children love the trains, can explore nature and let of steam in the huge outdoor play areas.
Also in Newquay, you can take a trip with Newquay Sea Safaris and Fishing from the harbour. Their boats ‘Atlantic Diver’ and ‘Bounty’ will take you on sea safaris to Seal Cove. You are also likely to spot dolphins, basking sharks, sunfish, harbour porpoise and many sea birds. You can watch crabbing boats hauling their catch and learn a lot from the crew on the trip. The company also offers cage diving with blue sharks, snorkelling trips, fishing trips and diving.
Newquay Zoo is home to over 1000 of the world’s rarest and endangered animals. Surrounded by 13 acres of lush tropical gardens, it is a wonderful excursion. Children can meet some furry friends at the Village Farm, take an activity trail, play in the two play areas or make their way through the Dragon maze.
The Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is an outstanding family tourist attraction. Children will learn about the interesting aviation heritage through indoor and outdoor exhibits. How wonderful to sit inside the cockpit of some fantastic aircraft!
Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium boasts an exciting world of underwater adventure waiting to be discovered. It has more than 40 displays which vividly bring the sights, sounds and smells of the sea to life. There are regular feeding displays, rock pool workshops and an incredible coral reef. Children can see seahorses, giant octopus, fierce piranha, reef sharks, turtles, stingray and lots more.
