What makes Cornwall such an evocative travel destination? Perhaps it’s the fantastical element of the landscape. The roar of the waves. The jagged jutting coastline. The quaint wilderness. The ruins, theatres and enchanting villages. With so much to offer, it’s no surprise that Cornwall remains a hugely popular travel destination.

Part of what makes the location so dynamic is its potential to be both exciting and exhilarating, for those who might want to spend their time surfing or rock climbing for example, and also a heavenly safe haven for those who prefer enjoying the culinary delights of Cornwall or enjoying time escaping into a book or series. If you choose to oscillate between the two, all the better!
Harmony Lodge forms part of the Retallack Resort and contains its own hot tub while also being in close proximity to the beach where you can relax or get involved in the many water sports. This is a quiet part of the resort ideal for those who want to take time to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the encompassing nature. A five star lodge, it’s ideal for a family of eight. The resort boasts an array of activities that you can enjoy including use of the gym, pool and Elemis Spa, a wonderful restaurant known as the Lookout, use of the playground and surfing lessons at FlowRider. The property contains two baths and is dog friendly so feel free to bring your four legged friend along.
Connecting you with the comforts of home whilst indulging in a taste of luxury amidst peaceful surroundings, you can enjoy a night under the stars in your private hot tub, enjoy the sublime lake views and spend meaningful time with those you love most indulging in fish and chips or going for walks around the lake.

Enjoy family meals in the terrace facing dining area where you can opt to make your own dishes or order in. Fish and chips? Pizza from the Lookout restaurant? Freshly delivered seafood? Al fresco dining? The options are endless. Relax in one of the two living spaces, each with a television and decorated to be a light and breezy space. The bedrooms are comfortable and picturesque spaces where you can read a good book and open the window to be greeted by verdant green views.

An enchanting little detail of the property is the tiny embossed puffin motif you will find adorning different rooms. Make yourself at home and be prepared for sophisticated comfort.

What you should know…

  • Before a trip to the beach, check the tide. There are many hidden caves to explore during low tide
  • Cornwall is an eternally popular destination. Most people plan to visit during the summer months when the weather is more predictable. This can mean that it’s busier but you get the benefit of lovelier weather. That said English weather can turn on a dime so do pack accordingly. Layers are your friend
  • Although you can travel to Cornwall by train (the journey takes around five hours from London) a car is a total gamechanger when it comes to exploring Cornwall. Many secret beaches and astonishing locations are down narrow roads so do prepared for this
  • Many restaurants stop serving food at 20:00-21:00 and pubs tend to close at 00:00

Harmony Lodge is located close to Padstow in Northern Cornwall and is part of the Retallack Resort, located in a quiet part of the resort close to the beach where you can enjoy water sports, sunbathing and beach hiking.

The complex also contains its own restaurant where you can eat in or take out burgers and pizzas to eat back at the lodge. You can enjoy the gym and pool for free. There’s also a playground for families and the Flowrider where you can practise your surfing skills. Don’t forget to head to the Elemis spa for some soothing downtime – there’s a range of treatments to enjoy here.

Beyond the lodge, there’s a great deal to explore in the county of Cornwall. Padstow is the closest town to you. Here, you can spend time at the quaint harbour watching the world go by and enjoying some sublime seafood. The area is renowned for its food scene so regardless of whether you prefer freshly caught fish or other dishes, you’re spoilt for choice here. You can learn more at the Padstow Museum or head to the Lobster Hatchery to find out about efforts to conserve the local lobster population. There’s also a chance to hike or bike the scenic River Camel Trail.

The versatility of Cornwall makes it a wonderful county to get out and about in. The landscape is vast and varied with its stretches of golden beach, towering waves that draw surfers from far and wide, and gorgeously verdant coasts. Peppered with charming towns and villages, you couldn’t get bored if you tried. It’s also an evocative landscape that can inspire the artistic and creative side of visitors.

Why not see a show at the outdoor Minack theatre where you can brave the spectacular elements and watch performances before your eyes? Carved into the cliffside, you’ll experience nothing else like it. Just make sure you book in advance. The Eden project is an opportunity to wander three indoor biomes and gardens that cross 30 acres. Head to the rainforest biome, the Mediterranean biome, the invisible worlds exhibition, the pretty outdoor gardens, the core building, which is structured to resemble a sunflower, the tunnel of love exhibition, pop your skates on and take to the ice, enjoy zip wiring and let kids run with abandon in the playground.

Port Isaac and Newquay are ideal destinations if you wish to cruise tall majestic waves drawn in by the Atlantic Ocean which creates a very strong surf. You’ll find many surfers here enjoying the scenery. If you’re not a surfer, you can still enjoy the sandy beaches, Blue Reef Aquarium complete with underwater tunnel and Newquay Zoo.

Make the most of your time in this beautiful part of the world and head to Mousehole, Tintagel, Truro, Serren and beyond.

Cornwall is an unbeatable travel destination and ideal for families. Whatever you enjoy, you can do it all here.

Cornwall has some of the most unbeatable natural beauty in England with over 300 beaches, wild waves, eons of coastline, moorland and lovely towns and villages each with their own customs and traditions. There’s so much to explore that you better get started!

Naturally children will want to run wild and free on the beaches and spend a lot of time in the water. If they’re adventurous, you might want to get out on the sea, enjoy some water sports, sail, rock climb or dive. You’ll have to pry them away from the stunning coastline at the end of the day!

Back at the lodge, you can enjoy the hot tub, spend evenings playing cards, board games and watching films together and enjoying home made meals or takeaways. The resort is designed for families and there are many activities you can enjoy together. You might want to take walks around the lake or head to the Lookout restaurant for pizza. You can use the pool and gym for free or book in for a treatment at the Elemis Spa. You might also want to see if you have an affinity for surfing at Flowrider – a great place to try this activity for the first time if you haven’t before and to introduce little ones to the waves.

Getting out and about you can enjoy a show at the Minack theatre, an outdoor theatre built into the curve of the cliff. You’ll love spending hours at the Eden project where you can look at biomes that reflect the rainforest and Mediterranean ecosystems. Get some fish and chips at Fistral Beach, Newquay, and if you feel brave enough, have a go at surfing those dramatic waves! Do check the tide times first. If the tide is out, you can enjoy exploring caves that run along the coast.

Padstow has an amazing food scene that you can enjoy. You might like to try Stargazy Pie in Mousehole. It’s an unusual dish and one that might frighten fussy eaters but is truly delicious and originated in the area.

Head to the Canal Creek Adventure Park for a day of activities and adventure. Got out on the water for a sea safari. You can enjoy seeing Cornwall from the water but also see a variety of marine life – you might be lucky enough to see dolphins, whales and grey seals!

If you’ve a taste for myth and legend, Tintagel cannot be beaten. Here you’ll find the ruins of the castle where it’s rumoured King Arthur was born. Believe it or not, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Cornwall has to offer.
