Villa Fare can be found in the unspoilt area of Faralya, known locally as Uzunyurt, a seventy-kilometre drive from Dalaman airport, located betwixt and between the cosmopolitan town of Fethiye and the beautiful sandy beaches of Oludeniz.

The villa is set in the hills of Butterfly Valley and enjoys breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the dramatic Lycian Way coastline. In Oludeniz, you will find one of the world’s best sandy beaches, lively seashore restaurants and bars, and exclusive souvenir shops. Hop aboard a water taxi to Gemile Island, aka Aya Nikola, a natural protected area that is now an open-air museum. Take the cable car to the top of Mount Babadag. At almost two thousand metres, you can jump off and paraglide solo or in tandem and land on Oludeniz beach.

For shopping and the city, Fethiye is your destination. This harbour town is home to an ancient amphitheatre, a historical museum and rock tombs, a foodie-heaven fish market, fabulous fashion and souvenir shops, and a marina where you can embark on the twelve-island boat trip.

Hike the Lycian Way and lose yourselves in ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine ruins. Enjoy a traditional Turkish hammam with bubbles galore and an invigorating massage. In the evening, dine at sea view restaurants on freshly caught seafood before dancing the night away on the sands of a beach club bar.

Fethiye

Situated on the ancient city of Telmessos, Fethiye is named after one of its most famous ‘sons’, the aviator Fethi Bey. An earthquake in 1957 damaged central Fethiye, so many of its buildings have been built since then. You can, however, see a Lycian theatre, Lycian tombs (including the rock tomb of Amyntas) and visit the Fethiye museum for more history and artefacts. The centre of Fethiye boasts a covered market area, half of which is given over to the local fish market where you can choose your catch from one of the centre stalls and then get it cooked in any of the surrounding restaurants. The whole of the area is shadowed by the mountain of Babadag where paragliders take to the skies, landing on the beach at Olu Deniz.

Fethiye’s Tuesday market is worth a visit. Traders come from the outlying villages to sell the wares from their smallholdings. Furrowed browed men with cloth caps, and ladies in floral bloomers will sell their produce amongst the lads trying to get you to buy their designer fakes! It’s all in good humour. Try a little bartering and see if you can do some good business. Go to the spice stall and you will get some amazing spices. Look for the Kar Serbeti, like a cinnamon slush or Ayran, a salty yoghurt drink both guaranteed to cool you down.

Olu Deniz & Calis are where people tend to flock for a beach but there are now a few private beach clubs along the coast between Olu Deniz and Fethiye which are worth a visit. There are also beach clubs situated around the lagoon, all with sunbeds, restaurants and drinks service. Hisaronu is more commercialised and hosts a large selection of bars, restaurants and gift shops.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s so much for kids to do in and around the area. Play in the villa’s private pool; there are no set hours when it’s your own. Butterfly Valley is on your doorstep, take the water taxi from Oludeniz to identify over eighty species of butterflies. They’ll love the Oludeniz Beach Clubs, with easy access into the sea and family-friendly water sports.

All aboard one of the many boat trips from Fethiye harbour, or for those who are after adventure, river rafting may be more their thing. Your daredevils will jump at the chance to jump off Babadag mountain and paraglide down to Oludeniz beach or simply ride the cable car up the mountain and admire the scenery.

There’s the opportunity to snorkel, scuba dive, or take a PADI diving course and discover the delights of a different world. Don’t miss a visit to Saklikent and Gizlikent Gorges, walk down fast-flowing rivers to cooling waterfalls.

Discover Dalyan, where you can wallow in mud baths, then sail down the river past ancient rock tombs to Iztuzu, the famous turtle nesting beach. Get on your horse and ride it at the local pony trekking club. Hire quad bikes, go off-road driving and ride the dunes, or join a jeep safari where you can motor around Mugla and see ancient sites.

Spend the day at Kayakoy, the local ghost village, and once home to both Greek and Turkish families, abandoned in 1922, it is now an open-air museum. Walk part of the Lycian Way for a flavour of the original Turkey. Enjoy a traditional family fun Turkish hammam, with lots of bubbles and a mini massage too.
