Villa Buena Suerte is located less than 25-minutes from Tulum on the Riviera Maya, a stretch of Carribean coastline on Mexico’s northeastern Yucatan Peninsula. The Peninsula is known for its exclusive all-inclusive resorts, long sandy beaches, and vibrant colourful towns; such as Playa Del Carmen, famous for its cocktail bars and buzzing nightlife. Tulum itself is located in the south and offers a more laid back vibe. Home to yoga retreats and the preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city, Tulum is a popular destination for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced lifestyle, and relax in a hammock under the palms, walk along the powdery white sands, and swim in the clear waters - and maybe even spot a sea turtle or two.

Whichever area of the Riviera Maya you choose to visit, all the beaches are incredible. The snorkelling and diving opportunities are second to none, as one of the world’s biggest reefs sits just off the coast. The region is also famous for its cenotes; giant underground rock pools that you can swim in, as well as underwater caves, and jungle areas. All of these natural wonders are best showcased in the area’s huge eco parks, where you can choose a boat trip and go on the lookout for dolphins, raft down the rivers, or take in the jaguars, flamingos and monkeys that call the parks home. Tulum is home to the famous Mayan ruins, and they really are a must-see for those staying in the area. There are about 60 buildings to visit, including the castle and the Temple of the Descending God, all perched high on the cliffs above the sea offering breathtaking views.

Region

Hugging the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, Tulum enjoys incredible white sandy beaches, ancient Mayan ruins and a bustling cultural scene. This coastal town, once a quiet fishing village, has evolved into a sought-after destination, offering a unique blend of history, natural beauty and considerable contemporary charm. Tulum has embraced sustainable tourism and many resorts showcase eco-friendly architecture that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings. From boutique hotels to luxurious beachfront properties, these establishments often prioritize eco-conscious practices, making them a perfect choice for travellers seeking a harmonious blend of comfort and environmental responsibility. Tulum has become a global hub for wellness seekers, with numerous yoga retreats and wellness centres. Visitors can participate in beachfront yoga sessions, holistic spa treatments and meditation workshops, immersing themselves in a rejuvenating and mindful experience.

One of the most iconic attractions in Tulum is the ancient Mayan archaeological site, perched majestically on cliffs overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The well-preserved ruins include the Castillo, a towering pyramid, and the Temple of the Frescoes, adorned with intricate carvings. Visitors can explore the remnants of this once-thriving city and marvel at the ingenuity of the Mayan civilization.

Stretching along the coast, Tulum's beaches are renowned for their powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters. Playa Paraíso is a favourite among sun-seekers, offering a serene setting for relaxation and water activities. Snorkeling and diving enthusiasts can explore the vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life just off the shore. A unique architectural feature of Tulum's beachfront are the charming cabanas. These rustic yet stylish thatched-roof huts provide a cozy and intimate setting, allowing guests to experience the beauty of the Caribbean Sea right at their doorstep.

The Yucatán Peninsula is dotted with cenotes, natural sinkholes formed by collapsed cave systems. In the Tulum region, cenotes such as Gran Cenote and Dos Ojos beckon adventurers with their enchanting underground landscapes. These freshwater pools provide a refreshing escape from the heat and an opportunity for snorkeling and cave exploration. For nature lovers, a visit to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is a must. This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including mangroves, wetlands and coral reefs. Guided tours offer glimpses of the region's rich biodiversity, with opportunities to spot dolphins, manatees and numerous bird species. Exploring Tulum by bicycle is a popular and eco-friendly way to take in the sights. The town and its surroundings offer bike-friendly paths, allowing cyclists to traverse the area at a leisurely pace, from the archaeological site to the vibrant town centre. Families with a love for wildlife can visit the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary, where rescued monkeys and other animals are cared for. Educational tours allow children and adults alike to learn about the importance of conservation and animal welfare.

A short drive from Tulum, Akumal is known for its serene beaches and the opportunity to swim with sea turtles in their natural habitat. The laid-back atmosphere and vibrant coral reefs make it a delightful day trip destination. Inland from Tulum lies Valladolid, a colonial town steeped in history. Its characterful streets, historic churches and vibrant markets provide a glimpse into Mexico's colonial past. The nearby Cenote Zaci offers a refreshing break for those exploring the town.

Tulum beckons with open arms, inviting you to explore its rich tapestry of culture and landscapes. It will send you home with marvellous holiday memories.

There are cots and highchairs available on request, and the villa also stocks games, books and DVDs; ideal for little ones. A pool is always awelcome addition to a family holiday, and the sheer size of the private pool at Villa Buena Suerte is sure to delight! The grounds of the villa boast a lush garden that children will love to explore, as well as plenty of well shaded areas, and of course the beach being right on your doorstep. Soliman Bay’s soft white sands and clear, calm waters are ideal for families with young children, although it is advised that water shoes are worn to protect little feet when paddling in the sea.

With miles of untamed jungle, the Punta Laguna Nature Reserve is one of the best places to spot some of the area's wildlife. Children will enjoy the guided tours that are available across the 12000 acre reserve that is home to spider and howler monkeys, pumas, crocodiles, deer and a variety of tropical birds. The tours often include a stop at Tulum’s famous Mayan ruins, as well as a traditional Mayan village where visitors can tour thatched homes, sample some local cuisine and learn about the indigenous population - a must for young historians and culture vultures. The centrepiece of the reserve is Punta Laguna, a huge lake that is perfect for canoeing and kayaking, and other activities on offer include jungle hikes, rappelling between the underground caves, and ziplining through the jungle canopy.

In Tulum you will find no end of places serving fresh and delicious Mexican food, although some restaurants have menus and facilities more suited to those with children than others. Some places worth checking out while you are here include Mateo’s, which has parking and plenty of highchairs - a must if you have very young children. The decor looks a little Americanised, but do not be fooled; Mateo’s claim to serve the world’s best fish tacos! As well as being famous for their carnitas and grilled shrimp. Hartwood, which serves traditional Mexican as well as American fare, is the darling of Tulum’s restaurant scene and incredibly popular with families. It can get quite busy and is not open all year round, so be sure to book early so as not to miss out
