Overview
Near some of Northern Italy’s most unique locations, such as the Cinque Terre villages and Lerici’s Gulf of Poets, Villa Splendor is a hillside home offering beautiful accommodation in an idyllic forested setting. With five bedrooms, this gorgeous, historic home is the perfect place to stay for a larger party travelling on a family holiday or as a group of friends.
This spacious, elegant, timeless home was built in the early 20th century in the Liberty style. While the interiors contain period details such as fireplaces, ceiling paintings and the original flooring, the home has recently undergone vast renovations to inject a new lease of life into the house. Now, the historic charms of the home remain and work in harmony with the modern fixtures and fittings which have been added for the comfort of guests.
The home has a mixture of contemporary décor and lovely antique furnishings and art pieces. The calming colour palette allows the architectural features and the garden views to take centre stage, so wherever you are in the home, you can unwind and make the most of this sumptuous space.
The living spaces here are bright and airy; there is a living and dining room with large windows overlooking the grounds. The living room offers two comfy sofas, a TV and a dining table to enjoy meals with your group. The kitchen is contemporary and well-equipped, yet is in keeping with the design and style of the house. Everything you need can be found here, from a Smeg fridge to a coffee machine.
When you need a good night’s sleep after a busy day out exploring the nearby towns and villages, you will have five bedrooms to choose from, some with romantic canopy beds. There also is a twin bedroom, a room with a queen-sized bed, and a room with a French-sized bed, meaning the home can accommodating guests comfortably. There are also three high-quality, spacious bathrooms available at the villa.
Outdoors, the home is enveloped by an oasis of pine, olive and citrus trees, lush lawns and fragrant beds brimming with flowers. While sitting on the covered portico you will be able to smell the floral scents of the garden, mixed with the fresh sea breeze, this garden is a delightful place to unwind with your loved ones. Out here you will find a large garden which overlooks the hills and the sea from the terraces and swimming pool. Whether dining al-fresco or lounging by the pool, you are bound to love the privacy and beauty provided by the space.
From your base at the villa, you will have many opportunities to get out and explore the charms of Liguria. Just a few paces from the home, you can discover mountain walks and cycling routes through magical hillside trails or head off the beaten track to find caves and ancient ruins.
When you wish to head into town, the centre of La Spezia is just 5km away, though you will find many shops and restaurants even closer than this. In addition to the historic port city of La Spezia, you can also easily reach the incredible Cinque Terre villages and the beaches of Lerici as both locations are under 20km away.
What you should know…
- Those wishing to arrive by car should note that the car parking spaces can be reached via a narrow, unpaved road. If you have a larger car, you can also park on the street, which is a short walk away.
- The home is cooled by air conditioning, aside from one bedroom, which is not air conditioned.
- If you do not wish to bring a car, there is a bus stop close to the home, plus a train station 5km away.
- Parents should be aware that the pool is not alarmed and there are some tiered spaces in the garden, so children should be monitored outside.
- The beautiful pool and garden has a caretaker that will visit for regular maintenance.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SplendorOverlooking Liguria’s forests and mountains and the dazzling blue sea below, Villa Splendor offers guests an idyllic setting within easy reach of some of Italy’s most beautiful towns and cities.
Just a short stroll away, you will find yourself on wooded walking trails where you can enjoy time in nature and get away from the stresses of life back home. There are also local restaurants within walking distance, so you do not need to go into the city centre to tuck into delicious meals and enjoy drinks with panoramic mountain-views.
When you wish to go shopping or would like to have breakfast at the lively port, the outer edges of La Spezia are within walking distance, while the city centre is a mere 5km away. The fantastic city is often missed by tourists who head straight to the Cinque Terre villages. Luckily, you will be close to the city and can get to know this authentic Italian centre, where locals shop, dine out and gather in the thriving squares. If you are looking for a spot for a tasty seafood meal, you should walk down to the port, while history lovers can spend some time getting lost in the atmospheric old town, which has pretty churches and a medieval castle. You can also shop for groceries or gifts here as there are many shops lining the streets and weekly markets.
Another wonderful place to visit is Lerici, a town 20km away and home to some of the nearest beaches. The Baia Blu beach is 17km away, close to Lerici, while the Venus Azure beach is set in Lerici and is a breathtaking beach with Blue Flag status and lots of space for lounging in the sun. Lerici’s coastline is stunning and has long inspired artists and poets. In fact, the gulf here is nicknamed “the Gulf of Poets” as Percy Shelley and Lord Byron both loved the town and were inspired by it. Lerici also has a wealth of shops, cafes and restaurants to discover.
It is hard to imagine taking a holiday in Liguria without paying a visit to the famous Cinque Terre villages, which draw so many visitors in to the area year after year. The closest of the five picturesque villages to the villa is Riomaggiore, which is 15km away by car. Some villages are hard to reach by car, and it may be easier to take the train from La Spezia or book a boat tour. The Cinque Terre villages are a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising five fishing villages. You could spend a day visiting just one of the villages or visit all five.
Vernazza is one of the more popular, while Riomaggiore is the biggest and one of the best-preserved. For a memorable day trip, you could also opt to take a boat excursion from Portovenere, which stops at a few of the villages and sails past the others. From the comfort of your boat, you can take in the impressive views of the pastel-toned buildings on the cliffsides. There are a range of these boat trips available, including snorkelling and swimming stops, or maybe you would prefer a sunset cruise with dinner included.

September 2020.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Amazing location, great architecture , immense garden and surroundings.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The villa was built 1910 by the famous architect Franco Olivo and was extensively restored in 2022 and renovated with high-quality, traditional materials. It is the first time in the rental market this year. Franco Olivo built mostly public buildings e.g. the town house and the famous theatre civico in La Spezia and this house was the only project known he did for a private party. It is under historical protection as culture heritage in Italy.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…
Must do?
Visit Cinque Terre.
Must eat?
Farinata - a flatbread made from chickpea flour.

Wonderfully restored property
Wonderfully restored property above town with amazing views. Very spacious for the 8 of us; It couldn't have been a better location for home base to Cinque Terre; The kitchen is very well equipped. We really enjoyed the new BBQ and outdoor seating area. Great pool. The large garden is fully fenced, and our dog could freely run around without getting lost. The Manager Alberto met us on arrival on the main street and his staff helped us to carry our luggage up the small romantic stone path to the Villa; (around 200 meter); We prebooked groceries and wine/beers for our stay. Alberto organized and brought it to the villa so everything was ready on the day of our arrival; There is a small local Italian food shop just where the parking is; It opens usually only in the morning, and you can get fresh bred /fruits etc;

What an incredible stay!
What an incredible stay! It’s truly the Italian Villa of our dreams. The Villa is large, mainly on one floor, with magnificent luxurious decorations. The main bathroom is stunning. The garden with its flowers and plants surrounding the romantic pool is incredible. Alberto recommended some great local restaurants, which were a short 5 minute walk away on the walking trail. He organized a private home chief, who showed us to make homemade Italian Pasta and Pesto. His suggestion to have a winery tour is something you don’t want to miss. The Villa was clean, everything was working and as descripted, if not better. We highly recommend his Villa and thank you Alberto for taking so much care of our group.

Highly recommend
Alberto was very helpful during check-in, helped us to carry all our luggage up the stone path leading to the beautiful House; He walked us around the property and had helpful tips for local bars/restaurants. The setting is a romantic and lovely property with an amazing garden and view, within walking distance to 3 good restaurants, a small grocery shop and the bus station; We came for hiking and explored the Cinque Terre National Park right starting from the house without using our cars. I would highly recommend Villa Splendor for anyone wanting to visit Cinque Terre and the Ligurian Coast.

We loved every minute of our stay in this wonderful villa
We loved every minute of our stay in this wonderful villa, one of the best we’ve ever stayed in. The villa is restored meticulously and carefully, retaining its character with the addition of countless tasteful details and everything necessary for modern comfort. Alberto's meticulous care is evident in everything, also in the supervision of the impeccable cleaning staff. The grounds are beautiful, calm and pleasant. Amazing views over the harbour and out to sea. Good WiFi and air conditioning and Smart TV. Some great local restaurants and a small shop which were a short walk away on the walking trail. I recommend this villa 100% and we can’t wait to return in the future.

Great
Alberto was very helpful in answering all our questions regarding having a local chef create an Italian dinner for six. Cosimo was our chef and did a very excellent job. He created the most beautiful birthday cake! I would certainly recommend Cosimo!

A truly unforgettable experience
Alberto made our stay a truly unforgettable experience. We celebrated my mothers 60th birthday and Alberto organized for our entire stay a private chef to cook for our family. We learned to make real homemade pasta and some outstanding local Ligurian dishes. He arranged a private boat tour into the cinque Terre, it was a Great idea to exploit this way the beauty of the coast and their villages.
3 Minutes walking distance from the villa, on the main road, there is a small grocery shop where we bought every morning fresh bread for our breakfast - extremely convenient. Next to it is the ristorante La Gira, where we had lunch several times under their wonderful large oak tree. Their offer typical regional specialities.
The Villa is beautifully restored with all the comforts of home. It was exceptionally clean and well looked after.
Thanks Alberto for taking so much care during our stay, and helping on arrival and departure with the luggage and arranging the airport transfer.

We can’t wait to return!
Villa Splendor exceeded all our expectations – a dreamy blend of antique charm, modern comfort, and impeccable service. We can’t wait to return!

Beautifully decorated
Villa Splendor is beautifully decorated; all furnishings are perfectly matched and fit perfectly with the noble building. The outdoor area is also well designed with the large and pleasantly cool pool and offers a unique view of the city and its harbor. The house is quietly located, but can only be reached by a small car (approx. Polo) without larger manoeuvring from the road about 300 meters away. Larger cars can be accommodated on the street. The pathway to the house is unpaved and possibly a problem for people who have impaired people, but can be easily mastered for everyone else. For luggage transport to the house, the host provides a driver with a small car. The host on site is very helpful and friendly by the way. We also arrived by small boat and he organized both the "stacking" and the berth. Thank you again! Overall, the villa is definitely recommended!

Wonderful house beautiful view of the hills of La Spezia!
You look over the city and harbor from the garden!
Spacious and beautifully maintained house everything is present you see that the owners have worked hard to refurbish the house and give a warm look.
Swimming pool is wonderfully cooling in the hot Italian summer.
We regularly took the hiking trail downstairs for a real Italian coffee, then sneakers and a little walking experience are convenient.
Shops & supermarket are a little further from the house but enough restaurants to eat out.
Public transport and taxis are sufficiently available. We have rented a car ourselves. But with the taxis it is also good to come to town.
Lovely Italian house beautiful place of the city's hustle and bustle but still reasonably close.
Owner is very friendly and open in communication. -
Nothing short of exceptional
Villa Splendor lives up to its description in every way. Overall, our experience was nothing short of exceptional, and we appreciate the owner’s attention to detail and commitment to ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free stay.

Everything is perfect
We were the first guests in this newly renovated house. Everything has been lovingly furnished with the best materials. The location is unique. You can see the sea from most rooms, and when the weather is clear, even the island of Corsica. The garden is very well maintained and completely fenced. Our dog, Charly, could run around freely. The fact that we had to walk 150 meters from the parking lot situated on the main street to the house didn’t bother us. The many excellent local restaurants nearby are super convenient. It takes about 10 minutes by bus to reach the main train station. Everything is perfect.
