Overview

Pool Quirky Ideal for Kids

Villa Kiani is lavish, palatial and very grand. You should be prepared for giant spaces, vibrant colour splashes and outstanding fittings. Sleeping up to eight guests, it offers four sleeping areas, some amazing bathrooms, two living spaces and fantastic outdoor space.

The magnificent property enjoys a sea front location in the village of Tersanas, just a few kilometres from Chania. Nestled on the rocky Akrotiri peninsula coastline, overlooking the bay of Chania, Tersanas is a small, pretty coastal village hidden in a small cove. It is actually the harbour of the village of Chorafakia which is one kilometre to the north. Tersanas enjoys a fabulous sandy beach and two tavernas. Unspoilt by tourism, the Akrotiri peninsula is brimming with lovely sandy beaches, traditional local tavernas, ancient monasteries and stunning scenery. Chania Old Town is one of the most alluring, captivating towns of Crete. With picturesque, narrow alleys draped with colourful bouganivillea, a fabulous dining scene, atmospheric bars, the most amazing sunsets and gorgeous little boutiques lining the cobbled streets, an evening wander and dinner should not be missed. For an added plus, Chania’s airport is only 5km away from the villa so you will be relaxing in your holiday haven in no time at all!

The ground floor of Villa Kiani is home to an amazing open plan living space, a kitchen and two double bedrooms. The open plan living space is absolutely enormous, coming with four areas including two living areas with comfortable, traditional furnishings, an office area and a dining area. With giant arched windows and huge glass doors, the whole space is illuminated with natural light and boasts phenomenal sea views. Centre stage is a stage styled wooden deck with enormous curtains falling from the ceiling. This living space certainly catches your eye and is superbly comfortable with leather sofas and plenty of armchairs. It is brimming with marble, granite, wood and Italian ceramics. The kitchen is another huge space that is very striking in dazzling red and glossy black. It offers the best of appliances, a breakfast table and a plenty of preparation space. Also on the ground floor, you will discover two giant bedrooms, one with a double bed and another with comfy twin beds. Both enjoy colourful ensuites, one red to match the bedroom and one pink.

The first floor is home to another vast living space. It includes another office section, a television, sofas and some gym equipment. The master bedroom suite can also be found here. You will be astounded by the space. It comes with a huge circular bed that actually looks small in the room! Two massive pillars sit either side of the bed and a feature wall that serves like a headboard sits behind. The master enjoys a spectacular ensuite bathroom with a double jacuzzi where you should definitely enjoy a glass of champagne. Floor-to-ceiling doors lead to a wonderful balcony where you can enjoy the amazing sea vistas. Another giant bed sits in the mezzanine area. It is not private though it does enjoy curtains all around. You might have to think about who uses this sleeping space!

Villa Kiani boasts eight thousand square metres of landscaped gardens featuring lush lawns, rock gardens, towering trees and colourful flowers. There are two swimming pools, one for children and the other for all. There is also a wooden deck where you can relax and perhaps enjoy some stretching or yoga. There are also lots of pathways that will take you to the sea. There are few villas as expansive as Villa Kiani. If you are looking for space and something a bit different, you cannot go wrong here!

Villa Kiani is located in Tersanas , northwest of Chania. You can walk from the villa to a delightful beach. There are plenty of wonderful beaches to visit nearby. Kiani Akti or the Blue Beach sits just 1km after Kalyves It is a long peaceful beach connected to the River Kiliaris which sends cool water from the top of the White Mountains. Kera is a gorgeous sandy beach 5km away between Kalives and Almirida.

Within a few minute’s drive of Villa Kiani, you can visit one of Tersana’s tavernas for a healthy and tasty local Cretan feast. Tersana Beach enjoys two taverns, loungers, parasols and lovely fine sand. At the top of the hill, you will find the village of Chorafakia with its shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. Next door, is the beautiful beach of Kalathas, another Cretan wonder sprinkled with palm trees, loungers and parasols. There are several tavernas serving delicious traditional Cretan specialities and lots of seafood. A wonderful array of watersports are available. Opposite Kalathas is a small island which you can easily reach by swimming. Marathi boasts two beaches, separated by a small pier. They are well protected from the winds and boast impressive views to Drapanos Cape and the White Mountains. Again there is a small island which can be reached by swimming with a small pine wood. The western coast of it is popular with scuba divers. Seitan Limania Beach, on the east coast of the Akrotiri peninsula, is one of Crete’s most gorgeous hidden secrets. It is nestled in a canyon leading out to sea with cliffs either side and the finest white sand reaching out to turquoise waters that turn to the deepest blue as it joins the sea. It is stunning! You can take a boat trip to see this sensational beach. Close by, there is also Stavros Beach where ‘Zorba the Greek’ was filmed in 1964. If you have seen the film you may recognise the memorable scene where Quinn’s character dances the Sirtaki! For an amazing trip out, you could hire a boat to head over to the famous Balos Beach. The peninsula is home to many beautiful, ancient monasteries such as the 16th century Gouverneto Monastery and the 17th century Agia Triada Monastery.

Chania Old Town is absolutely beautiful. It offers chaming narrow lanes lined with unique shops, a brilliant dining scene, trendy bars serving cocktails and its famous harbour. The old Venetian harbour offers a phenomenal location for romantic strolls and dinner. It was originally built by the Venetians between 1320 and 1356 and is now a vibrant, cosmopolitan spot. The Egyptian lighthouse is much photographed, especially at sunset. You can take a slow meander to the lighthouse to take in the stunning views of the harbour, Old Town with the majestic White Mountains in the background. On the waterfront, the Giali Tzamisi is the oldest Muslim building in Crete. The Turkish name is translated to ‘The Seaside Mosque’. It plays host to various cultural events and exhibitions.

After the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the second most visited tourist attraction in Crete is the dramatic Samaria Gorge which is roughly 55km from the villa. It is the longest gorge in Europe and definitely worth the drive. Within the White Mountain’s National Park, it rises to an altitude of 1,230m, is 150m at its widest point and 3m at its narrowest and continues down to Agia Roumeli on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The park and gorge offer protection to over four hundred and fifty species of plant and animal, of which seventy are endemic to Crete.

How to reach Chania

There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:
Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.

By ferry:
If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Villa Kiani is a brilliant choice for a family holiday. The villa is enormous with huge bedrooms and even bigger living spaces. If children are tired at the end of a busy sightseeing day, they can head off to one of the living spaces to watch a movie. There are two pools, one especially for children.

Tersanas Beach is perfect for families who love the outdoors. The nearby Kalathas Beach is delightful and offers a selection of watersports. Many of the other local beaches are also excellent and family friendly. It is not so easy to walk down to the amazing Seitan Limania cove with young children but otherwise they are all very well organised for families. On the south coast of the peninsula, Loutraki and Marathi Beaches are very safe for children and are sheltered from the wind

A popular family excursion is a trip to Lake Kournas, Crete’s largest freshwater lake. It is fed by natural springs running off the Lefka Ori mountains. The water is 22m at its deepest and is a stunning turquoise colour. It is an excellent excursion with pedalos, lots of geese and terrapins and plenty of tavernas nearby. Close by is the Kanakis Olive Mill where you can learn all about the production of olive oil. You can taste the oil in the shop and pick up some souvenirs. You should also take a photograph with the 2000 year old olive tree outside. Another trip fairly close to Chania is the Minoan Palace of Knosses. It is known as Europe’s first city and dates from the Bronze Age.

Minoan’s World 3D Museum and 9D Cinema in Chania Town is very popular. It is an immersive cinema where you can learn about the Minoan history while enjoying effects such as earthquakes and snow, bubbles and wind. There are many photo opportunities with murals in the background. The movie stars Zeus as a baby and as a God, abductions, flying too close to the sun and an eruption of the volcano in Santorini causing a devastasting tsunami that ended the Minoan era.

For a thrilling afternoon out, you can visit the fun Limnoupolis Waterpark close to Chania. It boasts eleven exciting waterslides such as 100m giant slides, free fall slides, a black hole and triple twist slides, a kid’s pool and an artificial island. It also boasts a relaxing 130m lazy river, a huge swimming pool with a diving platform, a kiddie pool and a relaxation area.

  • It is a special place

    on 25/08/2022

Villa Kiani has the most perfect location - secluded, on the sea, walking distance to a beautiful and quaint beach. The pool is large as is the poolside area. The villa is huge and of high-spec - the master bedroom suite is outstanding with its circular bed, massive bathroom, huge balcony and perfect views to wake up to. The only thing to note is that if you are a group of 8, then one couple's bed is on a mezzanine with no privacy for dressing etc although the bed is surrounded by curtains. It wasn't a problem for us as we went as a family and our youngest son used that bed and our room for dressing. All the furniture is extremely comfortable. It takes moments to relax and chill here. I would highly recommend this villa and hope to be able to stay there again sometime. SOON!
