Open the sliding glass doors to your vine-covered pergola and gaze out towards the incredible Luberon landscapes. This 2-bedroom abode is perched above the village of Bonnieux, just a short stroll to its historic lanes, restaurants and weekly market.

The valley vistas are just as glorious from the heated swimming pool with its stylish decked terrace and sun loungers. You can also admire the views from inside – sit back in the contemporary open-plan lounge and kitchen-diner with its high ceilings and large windows framing the scenery.

In a rather unique layout, Maison Bonnie features two bedrooms on the upper floor reached via a short contemporary staircase. The first bedroom has a queen-size double bed, air-conditioning and French doors leading out to a pretty covered terrace with a table and chairs. The second bedroom has an ergonomic double bed and they both share a modern shower room. Both rooms can be converted into twins on request.

There’s an air of charming simplicity at this converted Provençal cottage. Here it is all about making the most of the idyllic setting, beautiful valley views and gorgeous garden with its terraces and swimming pool.

Furthermore, it’s such a privilege to be so close to one of Provence’s loveliest villages. Surrounded by orchards, woodland and vineyards, Bonnieux is a joy to explore with its old houses that date back to the 16th century alongside a boulangerie, bakery museum, mini-supermarket and inviting restaurants. Preserve plenty of energy for the walk back up the steps and hill on your return to Maison Bonnie.

Other gems to visit close by include Lacoste, Ménerbes and the red-hued perched village of Roussillon whilst Lourmarin is just a 20-minute drive further south via the winding road through the cedar forest and hills. This region is a paradise for hikers and cyclists with its incredible natural beauty.

Sample local wines, visit enchanting markets and dine out in some of the Luberon’s finest restaurants across the region. Don’t miss the Saturday morning market in the handsome town of Apt or, if you wish to head further afield, consider spending the day soaking up the history of Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, both stunning Provençal cities which can be reached within an hour by car.

Maison Bonnie is set above the hilltop village of Bonnieux, one of the iconic perched villages of the Luberon. Fly into Avignon or Marseille Airport or take the TGV train from Paris to Gare d’Avignon TGV, around an hour away from Bonnieux by car.

The valley views from Maison Bonnie are beautiful. The fittest of guests can walk down to Bonnieux as long as you can manage the steps and hilly path on the way back (or it is a very short drive). The village is surrounded by orchards, woodland and vineyards and the scenery is idyllic. Stroll around the historic lanes admiring 16th century houses, visit the bakery museum and pick up your essentials from the mini-supermarket and boulangerie. There are restaurants and cafes in the village and the Friday morning market is a lovely experience.

Other Luberon gems close by include Ménerbes (12km), Lacoste (8km), Oppède le Vieux (20km) and Gordes (18km) or head north to the handsome town of Apt (14km) which hosts the Luberon’s largest market on a Saturday morning. This region is a paradise for outdoor adventurists with hiking, cycling and biking trails across the Luberon and beyond alongside horse-riding and canoeing/kayaking south of the picture-perfect village of Lourmarin (12.5km). Closer to home, enjoy the coolness of the Forêt des cèdres with marked trails for all abilities.

Wine-enthusiasts should take time to visit the vineyards and wine châteaux across the Luberon. Meanwhile, food-lovers can look out for cherries, almonds, melons, olives and other delights at Provençal markets in nearby villages and dine out in some of the Luberon’s excellent restaurants.

Further afield, drive to Aix-en-Provence (51km) to soak up the town’s charm and beauty as you explore its historic streets with inviting shops, café terraces, impressive museums and the iconic Cours Mirabeau. In the other direction are the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon (49km), another wonderful day out in this captivating part of Provence.

Families will fall in love with the Luberon and it’s wonderful being a short walk down to Bonnieux (as long as children and grown-ups alike can manage the steps and steep hill on the way back!).

Close to Bonnieux, spend time exploring the Forêt des cèdres following marked trails. Young adventurers may also enjoy a trip to Colorado Aventures, less than half an hour away near Rustrel, for tree-top trails and other activities in stunning Luberon surroundings.

Heading slightly south, discover canoeing and kayaking along the Durance River just beyond Lourmarin, or enjoy horse-riding through the beautiful scenery of southern Luberon.

Beyond the Luberon, other family attractions in Provence include two theme parks, Grimmland and Le Village des Automates, alongside a tree-top activity centre near Salon-de-Provence and the much-loved Zoo Barben with its many animals and playground.
