This charming 2-bedroom holiday home looks out over Karbuni Bay on Korčula’s beautiful southern coast. Breathtaking ocean views, a private pool and attractive outdoor areas are among the highlights of Villa Otok, located around 8km from the town of Blato.

Enjoying panoramas of the Adriatic and Korčula’s neighbouring islands, Villa Otok can accommodate up to five guests. There is a spacious terrace with a lovely dining area and barbecue, which is perfect for an intimate get-together. A covered seating area complements a line of sun loungers alongside the pool, and there’s an outdoor shower and a separate children’s pool too. The hillside location makes the views this area enjoys all the more spectacular.

Inside, there’s a mix of rustic and contemporary décor, with an eye-catching spiral staircase connecting the two floors. On the ground floor, you have the cosy living area, complete with Smart TV, music system and Wi-Fi. The same open-plan space also contains a dining area and a sleek kitchen with a coffee machine, electric oven and a dishwasher.

One of the bedrooms and a bathroom are also downstairs, with another of each on the upper level. Both bedrooms have double beds, and a fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa-bed in the living room. Villa Otok is kept comfortable at all times, with air-conditioning and electric heating if required.

Karbuni has a couple of nearby restaurants, and for more dining options it’s easy to drive to the town of Blato which has several good places to eat. It is a pretty town as well, and a pleasant place to spend your day, with tree-lined avenues, a park and gorgeous surroundings. It will take around 45 minutes to drive to Korčula town on the opposite side of the island, but it’s a scenic journey and well worth the trip, with landmarks like St Mark’s Cathedral, Revelin Tower and all kinds of excursions awaiting you.

The island of Korčula is so picturesque it’s a wonder that it’s not overrun with visitors. The beautiful Old Town of Korčula sits pretty amongst olive groves, vineyards and pine forests on the island’s north-eastern side, looking out towards the Pelješac peninsula.

As one of the Adriatic’s more populous islands, Korčula is well-prepared for the visitors it receives, many of whom appreciate its laid-back vibe and natural beauty. The main town is a lovely place to wander, with street markets, pavement cafés and old buildings to admire. Look out for St Mark’s Cathedral and the imposing Revelin Tower which once marked the entrance to the walled city. The view, looking out over the harbour, is a charming one.

Around 15km from the town of Korčula, the lovely Pupnatska Luca beach is also worth a visit; aside from chilling out in the sun, its crystal blue waters are great for swimming and snorkelling. Elsewhere on the island, you can try white-water rafting in Blato, or diving in Vela Luka.

You may find some visitor attractions based around Marco Polo’s (possibly tenuous) connection to Korčula, as he is something of an unofficial mascot for the island. However, there are many more authentic experiences to be had on the island. With galleries, winery tours and many beautiful villages to see, avoid the tourist traps and keep it real. For an unforgettable taste of the true Korčula, head to Vela Luka and take a boat trip to Proizd island, just off the west coast – a naturally stunning spot you won’t want to miss.

This is a great family villa, with just enough room for two or three children. They will love the pool and the outdoor shower, as well as the beach just a short walk away. For days out, there are more beautiful islands like Lastovo and Hvar to visit, or trips into Korčula town with its cool shops and restaurants.

There are more stunning beaches all over the island, so be sure to explore all around the coast. Head north and you’ll find pretty Prigradica, or to the east, the popular Pupnatska Luca and Lumbarda. When they return to Villa Otok, the fun won’t stop, because it’s equipped with all the tech they love, ensuring internet, music and TV is on tap.
