Nestled on the tiny Dutch Caribbean island of St. Eustatius, Quillside cottage is a charming one-bedroom accommodation that sleeps up to two guests. Part of the Golden Rock Resort, this incredibly stylish and contemporary-style holiday home comes complete with everything you’ll need to enjoy a relaxing and memorable holiday in the sun.
With its unique design and elegant decor, Quilside Cottage offers guests all of the amenities you would expect from a private home, decorated throughout in light, neutral shades, with beautifully crafted wooden furnishings. The cottage features a comfortable and well-appointed living space - perfect for cosying up at the end of a long day, as well as a large modern bathroom and a kitchenette complete with high-end quality appliances to use during your stay.
The villa’s double bedroom is a haven of rest and relaxation, with a sumptuous bed that promises a peaceful night’s sleep, ample storage space, and French doors that showcase incredible tropical views. What you should know…
- Guests staying at Quillside Cottage have full use of the Golden Rock resort’s leisure facilities and restaurants.
- St. Eustatius has several beaches on the west side of the island, including Oranje beach. On the east side you’ll find the beaches of Zeelandia Bay and Corre Corre Bay.
- The beaches on St. Eustatius are black and beige volcanic sand, and a 10 minute taxi can take you to the islands pockets of volcanic sand!
- Light rainfall can be expected in April, June and September.

About the surrounding area of Quillside CottageQuillside Cottage is located on the small Caribbean island of St. Eustatius, which is dominated by the Quill, a dormant volcano that is considered by volcanologists as one of the most perfectly formed specimens in the world. The island is popular with those who love to hike, with the Quill National Park featuring hiking trails suitable for all abilities, which lead along the ocean and around the volcano, where you’ll find lush rainforests teeming with exotic species of orchid. Beach lovers will be pleased to know that narrow stretches of volcanic sand can be found along the Leeward side of the island, and adventure-seekers will be interested to know that there are dive sites offshore that range from coral reefs to shipwrecks.
Guests staying at Quillside Cottage can take full advantage of all the amenities that the Golden Rock Resort has to offer, including an extensive range of fitness and leisure activities such as a swimming pool, ocean-front gym, yoga facilities, and a tennis/basketball court. If you prefer to take life at a slower pace, the resort features 40 acres of exotic gardens with over 130,000 species of flowers, plants and trees that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The marble paths lead you through this tropical paradise as you take in the glittering ocean views - pure bliss!
The resort features its own saltwater lagoon - fantastic for learning how to scuba dive or free dive. Here you’ll find a 30ft sunken school bus reef to explore - a unique experience that Oliver highly recommends you try! If you happen to be visiting the resort from the 2nd - the 26th September, 2023, you might like to consider the Mermaid Retreat being held here, where wannabe mermaids can learn or polish their fin-swimming skills in a supportive, friendly environment. The retreat is suitable for ages 10 and up, with a second retreat available from the 12th - 16th January.
Fine dining is a huge part of any holiday, and the resort features two exciting options. Bobbie’s Beach Club serves up delicious fusion cuisine, with everything from sushi and Caribbean BBQ to traditional Italian pizza available. The club offers guests panoramic ocean views and features hammocks and swings in the lagoon area for the ultimate luxury holiday experience. The Breeze restaurant is a must for cocktail fans, with a vast and delicious selection available, along with exquisite dishes that serve up local ingredients and a global flavour - all of which can be enjoyed while enjoying unparalleled ocean views.

Best Suited For: All AgesWhile Quillside Cottage only sleeps up to two guests across one double bedroom, a visit to the Eustatius with the kids is sure to be a memorable and exciting one. If you choose larger accommodations at the resort, the kids will delight in being able to use the pool and try their hand at diving in the saltwater lagoon, which is surrounded by botanical rock walls. There’s also an outdoor children’s play park for younger children.
The island doesn’t feature the typical white sands you picture when you think of the Caribbean, instead, you’ll discover volcanic beige and black sands, which are important nesting sites for endangered sea turtles - but a visit to some of these beaches are a must if you are holidaying on the island with children. Oliver recommends going to Oranjestad Bay, which is the best spot for a paddle and a cooling dip, as well as being a popular area for snorkelling. Zeelandia Beach is a stunning location too, but parents should be aware that the waters here have a strong current, so they may be unsuitable for swimming.
Hiking as a family is a relaxing way to spend time with the kids (be sure to pack suitable walking shoes!), with the tropical forests surrounding the volcano full of exotic plants and wildlife to spot. Eating out with the kids can be a challenge at the best of times, but on the island of St Eustatius, it will be easy to find dishes to suit even the fussiest of palates. This small island offers an eclectic array of cuisines, from Caribbean and French to Italian and Chinese, so it should be easy to cater to all tastes during your stay.
