A contemporary Lakeland home with six spectacular bedrooms, Ambleside House is a beautifully high quality, comfortable country house with breath-taking views across Loughrigg Fell and the surrounding hills of the charming Lake District landscape!

Take your time driving on the winding, narrow lane from the village as you soak up the tranquil atmosphere of this superb location. Your enormous open-plan living space is perfectly crafted into areas for relaxing, dining and cooking, with sumptuous sofas and a vibrant array of chairs around the large wall-mounted TV, with a set of large patio doors to one side through which natural light floods into the room, creating a warm, welcoming environment. To one side there is also a log burning stove, so you can stay warm and cosy even on the cooler evenings. At the far end of the room the large family dining area extends away from the living room with tons of room for all to gather and enjoy a feast together!

For your convenience, the kitchen sits alongside this area, continuing the modern, open-plan style, and is quite the chef’s dream! Two large fridges, a range cooker with a five-ring gas hob and electric and gas double ovens, a dishwasher and microwave are all assembled within this sparkling modern delight, with tons of work-space to boot! From here you can access the utility room in which you will also find a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a guest WC on this ground floor.
There are six elegant bedrooms in total: four super-king size rooms, one king-size and one double room, all of which include a wall-mounted TV and totally cosy and sophisticated contemporary furnishing! Five of the rooms have delightful ensuite bathrooms, while the sixth has a full family bathroom just opposite it. A range of free-standing bathtubs and double, walk-in showers will make you feel totally pampered, while all six bathrooms have underfloor heating adding to the super comfortable ambience of the entire property for your optimum enjoyment! 

And finally, the perfect spot for a little peaceful relaxation, your vibrant garden, with its fragrant flowerbeds and expansive lawn, has all the space you need for enjoying a cuppa in the sunshine! A patio on either side of the house, as well as a large lawn with space to run around, ensure all the group can get out and enjoy the fine weather together.

Just a mile away is the majestic Lake Windermere, the largest in the country! And what’s more, you’re just a five-minute walk from the charming shops, restaurants and cafes of the village of Ambleside! For those looking to get out and about in this breath-taking countryside, walks of all kinds, including the iconic Fairfield Horseshoe walk which goes past the front door, can be enjoyed literally from the doorstep. As well as mountain bike routes to suit all levels!

What you should know…

  • The master bedroom suite is set in the eaves of the house and therefore has restricted headroom in places
  • The road to Ambleside House is very narrow so take extra care. Due to the narrow lane, supermarket delivery vans cannot deliver to the house and so we recommend you visit the nearby supermarkets

Ambleside House is just a short walk from the magnificent village of Ambleside. Located on the northern shores of Lake Windermere, it is a bustling town with a great array of outdoor equipment shops, bookshops, gift shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as two cinemas, making it the ideal location to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. With its prime spot between several classic Lake District fells, it is a magnificent base from which to explore the ethereal beauty of this unblemished National Park.

Indeed, it’s what sits just outside of the village that will truly get your heart racing! Something of a mecca for cyclists, walkers and water-sports enthusiasts, the landscapes awaiting you have to be seen to be believed! Leave the car behind and lose yourself in the fresh air! For the true adventurers, unbeatable skiing, climbing and mountain-biking can be found throughout the Park, while more relaxing pursuits including boat hire and golf can be found a stone’s throw away.

Nearby attractions including the Lakes Aquarium, with the UK's largest collection of freshwater fish, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, where you can enjoy a 3.5-mile steam locomotive trip into the Leven Valley and the delightful World of Beatrix Potter, where the fabulous animals of Beatrix Potter's tales are brought to life in three dimensions! All make for a great day out for all ages and can easily be combined for those short on time thanks to their proximity.

The Lake District is England's largest National Park, with more than 3100km of rights of way, you can walk, cycle and ride yourself silly through this enchanting valley as you marvel at some of the world’s best scenery! Adventure courses, boat hire, all kinds of water-sports and much more ensure you can take the Lakes at your own pace, be that racing down the mountains on a bike, fell-running up them or gliding through them on a Launch, the possibilities are endless!

Carlisle, Leeds and Newcastle airports are all within a 2-hour drive or thereabouts, and there are train stations dotted throughout the National Park, so accessing the house on public transport is certainly possible.

    Ambleside House has high quality fittings and fixtures. Everything you needed was at hand. Nice decor, spacious and welcoming. Wine and welcome boxes a very nice touch!

    Lovely house, everything you could possibly want or need is provided in this property. A great outdoor seating area and garden at Ambleside House. A great property for big family groups! We stayed a week in July and this property helped towards a great holiday.

    Stayed at Ambleside House for a week June '19 - great property, really well equipped and beautifully furnished. All but one of the rooms is en-suite and the 6th room has an adjacent bathroom which is a valued aspect of staying with family/friends. The kitchen is well fitted out with useful good quality stuff. There are two outdoor areas set up with nice outdoor furniture which we made much use of. We would highly recommend.
