Now, we couldn’t write a blog about some of our most quirky places to stay without including at least one of our gorgeous Trulli houses. Conical shaped and overflowing with character, if you wanted to experience a traditional, authentic Italian holiday then this is the place to do it. The interior of this stone-walled delight is filled with shabby chic furnishings, making it even more charming; outdoors there’s a private swimming pool and dining terrace surrounded by nature… seriously photo-worthy.

Yes, this is a tent. But not as you know it. Set amongst tropical gardens with a gorgeous pool, sauna with hammam and a Woodland Spa, the retreat that this tent belongs to is focussed on living luxuriously. The tent itself is styled elegantly, oozing sophistication with its opulent furnishings; a private plunge pool, romantic outdoor bath and BBQ mean you can enjoy each other’s company privately.

Surrounded by rivers and a canal, which you can explore by kayak, canoe or fishing boat, this secluded little spot is ideal for a peaceful escape with a small group of family or friends! It’s not completely cut off from the rest of the world though, as there’s a charming, picturesque bastide town only 5km away. Then you can retreat back to your watermill to take a long relaxing soak in the hot tub under the starry night sky. Absolute bliss!

Look out over the sea to the bays and coves from the lighthouse’s stylish terrace (with the original lantern!) with the impressive 15th-Century Aragonese castle behind you. The interiors have been lovingly decorated, with all manner of sleek and modern furnishings. If you can pull yourself away, you can drive to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ortigia, or you can hire the owner’s traditional Italian gozzo boat with a private skipper!
