A 14th century church has found a second life as this modern villa in Umbria. Pale pink stone walls rise above the green countryside outside Spello - this is your holiday oasis. Your hostess Andrea has decorated the interior with treasures from her travels (and has great taste); everywhere you’ll find eclectic furnishings, rich rugs, and colorful artwork. This sense of fun interplays beautifully with the dignified archways, made of ancient stone.

The lawned garden is a carefully kept paradise overlooking rolling countryside. Lounge beside the little swimming pool, looking out to the hills beyond (sunset here is a special treat). You'll find romance inside, too - the country kitchen seems like the backdrop of a still life.

This villa nestles against the city walls of Spello, between the gates known as Porta del Mastro and Porta Prato. The cobbled streets of Spello are enchanting, and not usually traversed by tourists. It's most famous for L’Infiorata, a festival in June where the public spaces are adorned with floral street art. The surrounding land is dotted with wineries, providing a true taste of Italian village life.

What Oliver loves...

  • This villa is a short walk (3-5 minutes) from several restaurants, bars and cafés!
  • Gorgeous furnishings that successfully combine Oriental and Italian styles, bringing life to this 14th century church
  • Rooms vary so much in style and size, there is choice to suit every taste -the garden room is very much loved by the teenagers!

What you should know

  • Larger parties travelling together may also book the equally gorgeous Villa Giardiniera (sleeps 6). La Casetta (sleeps 2-3) and La Camerata (sleeps 2) are also virtually next door
  • The pool is quite compact (3m x 6m) as the property is found in the historic centre where pool sizes are limited accordingly
  • There's no parking in front of the house (but it's only a three minute walk away) and a resident's parking permit is included
  • If you are interested in hosting a wedding near Spello, the owner has a beautiful residence just a 5-minute drive away - please see the "Events" tab for more details.
