Overview
A 14th century church has found a second life as this modern villa in Umbria. Pale pink stone walls rise above the green countryside outside Spello - this is your holiday oasis. Your hostess Andrea has decorated the interior with treasures from her travels (and has great taste); everywhere you’ll find eclectic furnishings, rich rugs, and colorful artwork. This sense of fun interplays beautifully with the dignified archways, made of ancient stone.
The lawned garden is a carefully kept paradise overlooking rolling countryside. Lounge beside the little swimming pool, looking out to the hills beyond (sunset here is a special treat). You'll find romance inside, too - the country kitchen seems like the backdrop of a still life.
This villa nestles against the city walls of Spello, between the gates known as Porta del Mastro and Porta Prato. The cobbled streets of Spello are enchanting, and not usually traversed by tourists. It's most famous for L’Infiorata, a festival in June where the public spaces are adorned with floral street art. The surrounding land is dotted with wineries, providing a true taste of Italian village life.

What you should know…
- Larger parties travelling together may also book the equally gorgeous Villa Giardiniera (sleeps 6). La Casetta (sleeps 2-3) and La Camerata (sleeps 2) are also virtually next door
- The pool is quite compact (3m x 6m) as the property is found in the historic centre where pool sizes are limited accordingly
- There's no parking in front of the house (but it's only a three minute walk away) and a resident's parking permit is included

Region
Umbria has best of Italy to offer: rolling landscapes, wine, beautiful towns and villages, olive oil, expansive lakes and the food, glorious food. A holiday here can be as lazy, active, cultured and as delicious as you like.
This region is scattered with pretty, picturesque villages, while the area has a rich cultural heritage. From thermal pools to medieval cathedrals and olive oil museum, Umbria has an intriguing amount of history to discover.
Both Rome and Florence are accessible within a day trip, while the closest towns of interest would be Orvieto, the old town which is a fascinating series of winding streets, piazzas and a colourful weekly market.
History lovers will be spoilt - from the first century Roman amphitheatres to the twelfth-century duomos, to the fourteenth-century hilltop fortresses, the glut of remnants from the medieval and Bronze Age that punctuate the region is impressive.

Magic!
Imagine a Fairy Tale Village, you have Spello. It was one of the most magical vacations I have had. From the minute you walk through the gates of Villa Buona you are enchanted. The gardens, the views, and the villa are more than you expect. We were 3 sisters who had their own beautiful space, and plenty of it; however, we spent more time just relaxing on the terrace, than anywhere else. The views of the countryside from every room are spectacular, and after 7 days of eating and drinking, we had not gained a pound, due to the 5 miles we walked through the countryside each day! Spello is not for the faint of heart or infirm. It is a hilltop, you go up and down on brick roads. If you do make the investment, you will not be disappointed!!

We're Delighted
The host could not have been more professional and helpful. She knows the town intimately and is known and respected in the town and can solve any problems which may arise. My wife had a medical issue arise during our stay - and the speed and efficiency with which Andrea swung into action to get it resolved was exceptional. The villa itself matches its description and photos. It's a beautiful place. Just watch your head in the upstairs bedroom if you are over say 5ft5inches tall. The town of Spello was delightful. It's safe, friendly and walkable ( if one is moderately fit) - and the views across the Umbrian countryside are wonderful. There is a good choice of local restaurants. Eating out was a pleasure with fine locally sourced ingredients and lovely staff ( la Cantina being the only exception in terms of uniformly great service). My final tip - hire a bicycle. The country roads around Spello are a delight to traverse and local drivers seem to to be aware of and respect the cyclist.

We had everything needed for a perfect stay in Spello
This is a wonderful option if you're looking to rent a house in Spello. The house itself is beautiful and the location is really great. It feels secluded and is quiet but is also very close walking distance to the restaurants and shops of Spello - very convenient! It is extremely clean and tidy and when you rent the house it includes daily professional cleaning (bedrooms made up and bathrooms cleaned), as if you were in a hotel. Andrea, the owner, is great and attentive and really wanted to do everything she could to make sure we had a perfect stay. We were a group of 6 and had more than enough space. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Peace and Tranquility
We had the most relaxing and enjoyable stay at Villa Buona! It was truly magnificent. The house is simply gorgeous, the attention to detail is quite something. It's obvious that every part of the home has been carefully thought of to ensure that guests have the most comfortable and pleasant stay. Andre's kindness and hospitality was remarkable. I look forward to visiting Spello again, only for the pleasure of staying at such a great house. Spello, of course is beautiful. The shops are quaint and the town so pretty, with friendly locals and delicious food. I look forward to going back, and in the meantime will miss the peace and tranquility of what it had to offer.

Villa Buona
Great family get away. Beautiful villa, scenic views, very private setting right in the heart of Spello.
Andrea was a fantastic host and very accommodating with all our needs.
The private chef was outstanding. My only complaint is that we didn't book for a longer stay. -
Umbria at it's best!
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Buona. It is a superb villa in a wonderful town in a great part of Italy. The views from the lovely garden and terrace are simply stunning. Spello itself is a delight and it is well worth spending time just wandering about there taking in the sights. As an added bonus, pretty much every one of the restaurants in the town offers extremely high quality food and wine at very reasonable prices! Andrea has done a fantastic job furnishing the villa, and is also a most helpful, informative and charming hostess. We would definitely consider returning, and have no hesitation in recommending the villa to others who wish to visit Umbria.
