Location
About the surrounding area of Villas Stamatis ASkiathos has so much to offer, being one of the most scenic and verdant Greek islands. Skiathos is a gem in the Aegean Sea! Skiathos Town is the heart of the island though there are plenty of small summer resorts along the south coast of the island. Adventurers will love the mountainous terrain and the wild beaches of the northern side. Romantics will adore the spectacular panoramic views from the mountains and from the harbour of Skiathos Town.
The island has a long history from the pre-historic era and through the Classical, Byzantine and Venetian periods. There are many Byzantine churches and monasteries to visit and popular sights such as the Bourtzi Fortress and Medieval castle of the Old Town.
Some of the special natural sights are the wetland of Koukounaries, the Sea Caves and Lalaria as well as the islet Tsougrias. The picture-postcard visions across the island will make you want to return again and again!
The island is a paradise for mountain bikers. There are many businesses offering bike rental. There are also many diving schools where you can explore the underwater life. There are more than 300 fish species in the Sporades group of islands. There are also opportunites for go horse riding and hiking. There are 25 well-marked hiking trails, 197km in length. A guidebook ‘Hiking in the Aegean Paradise’ will give you a lot of information on the history, culture, places of interest and the herbs of the island as well as the maps and descriptions of the hiking routes. If you show evidence of having hiked 20 of the trails, you will receive a ‘Wanderers Medal’ from the Skiathos hiking club!
There are daily tours from Skiathos old port to Skopelos, Alonisos and the Marine Park. You can take a Mamma Mia tour around the locations where the movie was filmed.
Skiathos cuisine is delicious. You should try the local sweet preserves, honey and olives as well as the freshly caught fish. You certainly will not go hungry in Skiathos!

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChildren will love staying at Villa Samatis A. As the villa is made up of 3 separate apartments, you will need to ensure adults and children are distributed so as to ensure children aren't in an apartment alone.
Horse riding is a big part of Skiathos tradition and can be very scenic. The Athletic Horseback Riding Club of North Sporades offers great facilities.
Skiathos has the most incredible beaches including Koukounaries beach which is the most famous on the island. It is therefore the most crowded though it remains unspoiled with fine white sand and fragrant pine trees bordering the beach. It offers many water sports, chairs, umbrellas and beach bars. Lalaria beach is only reachable by boat. It is situated on the north-eastern tip of the island and is incredibly beautiful with huge white cliffs rising out of the clear, deep blue sea. To the left of the beach is a rock forming a natural bridge between the sand and the sea. The magnificent Blue and Dark Sea Caves are located close by and should not be missed. Agia Paraskevi beach is close to the villa, 7km from Skiathos Town. It took its name after the little church. Again, there are watersports including water skiing and jet skiing. You can also rent a boat to tour around the island. If you take a round-the-island tour from the old port you will travel anticlockwise via the sea caves, postcard-worthy Lalaria beach with its famous Tryoia Petra rock-arch and continue on to Kastro, Aselinos beach and Tsougris islet where you will probably have a swimming opportunity.
Children would enjoy visiting Kastro at the northern end of the island. The middle of the 14th century saw the island being harassed by pirates so the people of Skiathos relocated to Kastro, the Greek word for castle. Kastro was surrounded by canons, many of which still remain.
