  • A day trip to Santo Domingo will be fascinating, especially as it’s the oldest ‘new world’ city. Also take a day trip to Catalina Island where you can snorkel and maybe see barracuda!
  • The Caribbean is famous for its rum. You have to try it!

What you should know

  • There’s got to be a catch when dealing with such relentless beauty right? Well, mosquitoes might just be one. We recommend Deet spray and clothes that cover you in lighter shades
  • The sun here is powerful so do make sure you remain hydrated, drink bottled water rather than tap, use sunscreen and wear sunglasses. Try to avoid the dead heat of the day where possible
  • La Romana is one of the most visited parts of the Dominican Republic. Even so, it retains a very relaxed, calm and otherworldly feel
