What Oliver loves…
- Fantastic location! In a tranquil and quiet spot right next to the Ionian. Plus, you’re only a short drive from Assos village with its harbour-front tavernas and the famous swimming beach Myrtos Bay
- A short walk to the village that is wonderful for small tavernas and typical Greek atmosphere
Assos Seagull is a beautiful two-bedroom retreat in north-west Kefalonia. Perfect for small families, the luxury villa boasts a stylish attic master double bedroom and an equally cool twin room with a balcony.
Overlooking the sparkling Ionian, as well as historical Assos castle and traditional Assos village, this villa captures all that is great and good about the island. Think unspoiled olive-dotted landscapes, blissful beaches and characterful towns and villages – all waiting for you to explore.
Each of the rooms at Assos Seagull has a welcoming feel; expect on-trend décor with modern design elements, white walls, soothing colour palettes and exciting art pieces. Add to the mix comfy beds, an elegantly tiled bathroom and large private pool terrace, and it’s easy to see why we’ve featured this villa.
Lazy days can be spent hanging out around the pool or on the south-facing terrace. Take your pick of prime sunbathing or relaxing shaded spots from one of the cushioned sun loungers, beanbags or wicker chairs. There’s also an outdoor barbeque, al fresco dining table and fully-equipped kitchen too, so mealtimes are a treat at this villa.
Magical sunsets come as standard, and even if you’re eating on the indoor dining table, you can enjoy them through the large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows. By day, they let in the beautiful natural light and showcase those vistas.
When you’re not at the villa, friendly tavernas and cafés that line the waterfront await. Stock up on fresh fruit and seafood from Assos village or head to the world-renowned Myrtos bay for some calm sea swimming or snorkelling.
Post-sightseeing, head back to the villa to savour your delicious fare or kick back and relax in the cooling air conditioning on one of the comfy living room sofas. As one of the largest islands in the Ionian chain, there’s plenty of exciting things to see and do in Kefalonia.
The property cannot be booked online. Please note that your booking will only be confirmed once we have checked availability with the owner.

Assos Seagull is in the quiet and traditional village of Assos on the tranquil Ionian Island of Kefalonia. It shot to fame as a set of Louis de Bernieres' wartime novel – and later film – Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Years later, it still feels like an undiscovered secret with its serene natural setting, historic sites and a relaxed atmosphere.
Kefalonia is also renowned for its soft sandy beaches, mountain gorges and quaint harbour villages. Spend your days swimming in the crystal-clear waters, exploring the Venetian-style architecture or trying fresh local cuisine like seafood, mezes or moussaka.
The villa itself offers the perfect starting point for exploring more of this beautiful Ionian island. It’s only a short drive from must-see sights like the 15th-century Assos castle in Assos village and Myrtos bay with its picture-worthy beach that’s framed by tall cliffs – both seen from your terrace. In Assos village, there are also verdant forests with pine and cypress trees to explore.
The village is small and still retains its old-world charm with classic Ionian architecture and pretty pastel-coloured houses nestled into the steep hillside.
At the harbour, you can while away the afternoon watching fishing boats and luxury yachts mooring, while in the village square there are tavernas, shops and restaurants to dine at or do as the locals do and sip cold coffee. Assos beach is also a must visit, with its clear waters and fantastic views across the bay.
You can relax on the pebbles or swim and snorkel in the sea. From the villa, Assos village can be reached by car. The coastal route to get there is spectacular and takes in the dramatic rock formations and tranquil sea waters.
In Kefalonia, you’ll also find many intriguing caves to discover. There’s the magical underground lake of Melissanthi or Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations. You could also hop on a boat and head to the untouched coves, inlets and secluded beaches.
Some tours stop off for lunch and swimming. Or, for a dose of culture instead, head to Saint Gerasimos monastery. It’s an impressive 15th-century building that sits beneath Mount Ainos, near the villages Falgrata and Valsamata.

How to reach Kefalonia island
There are two ways to get to Kefalonia island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: During the busy months, the airport of Kefalonia (EFL) receives a great number of domestic but also charter flights. The airport is located 7 km outside Argostoli, the capital of the island.
By ferry: Kefalonia has three ports: Sami (SMI), Argostoli (ARM), and Poros (PKE). If you want to arrive in Sami you should depart from Patra (GRA). In case you want to arrive to Poros or Argostoli you can depart from Killini (KIL). The trips last from 1.5 to 3 hours. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
With its beautiful natural scenery, soft sandy swimming beaches and impressive ancient architecture, Kefalonia is a must visit for families.
Assos Seagull itself has a private swimming pool and an enclosed terrace area that’s perfect for young children to play safely and in sight.
For days spent by the beach, the world-renowned Myrtos bay with its sheltered, calm swimming waters and soft sandy shore is a short drive away.
There, kids young and old can enjoy splashing about in the water or snorkelling the coastline looking for colourful fish. There’s also pebbly Assos beach that has crystal-clear waters and is close to the village for amenities.
For family-fun day trips, you can jump on a boat from Assos harbour and explore the untouched coves and islets.
There are also plenty of caves to explore in Kefalonia like Melissanthi, a magical underground lake and Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations. Or, to learn about the ancient history, there’s Assos castle, Argostoli Archaeology Museum and Saint Gerasimos monastery.
