Close to Casa Demuth is the charming town of San Jose in the foothills of Sa Talaia, the highest mountain on the island which measures 475m. San Jose is the ‘capital’ of the area that goes by the same name. The main street is dominated by its impressive church where you can sit under the shade of the trees for a peaceful people-watch. The town boasts a very good selection of restaurants and shops and a fabulous Saturday morning market where around 20 stalls offer local, and organic produce including fruit, vegetables, home-made bread and pastries and local artists sell paintings, ceramics and sculptures.
The wonderful Cala Conta Beach has two main coves, one backed by a rugged Jurassic coastline and the other by picturesque sand dunes. The beach has several welcoming bars and restaurants and offers the most spectacular views, particularly at sunset. Cala Contita is Cala Conta’s little sister beach and just south of that is the famous, mythical ‘Rave Cave’. This is home to the Ibiza Rave in Cave parties and holistic yoga sessions. On the hill above Cala Codolar, is Ibiza-Henge, a monument with 13 huge Basalt columns arranged in a semi-circle which vaguely resembles Stonehenge.
Cala Bassa is another of the gorgeous coves on this glorious west coast. It is surrounded by ancient, gnarled Sabina woodland and boasts the upmarket Cala Bassa Beach Club. The beach club has a number of restaurants offering Ibizan, creative fusion, oriental and gourmet dishes. Its trendy spaces, including an exclusive Taittinger Lounge, are shaded by ancient juniper trees. DJ’s play a mix of lounge, chill-out and house music and you can soak up the sun’s rays on swanky lounges and in cabanas. You really need to book a table or sun lounger though as it is extremely popular.
San Antonio is the fast-living neighbour of these special coves. San Antonio is brimming with thriving sunset bars, electric nightclubs and a vast range of water activities. The Sunset Strip is legendary. Tourists listen to the latest summer sounds and watch the vivid sun sink whilst sipping delicious cocktails.
