THE REGION

Set on a curving turquoise bay just 40 km south of Lisbon, Sesimbra is both an attractive fishing town and a popular tourist resort within easy reach of the capital. Sesimbra is one of the finest beach resorts in Portugal. It is adored by the Portuguese who flock to the region for their holidays, drawn by the pristine beached, relaxed atmosphere and outstanding seafood restaurants.

Near Sesimbra, there are the beaches of the Arrábida Natural Park, which are considered among the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. The most famous one is Praia do Figueirinha, a long sandy shore kissed by calm and crystalline waters.

The outstanding beaches and tourist attractions make Sesimbra an enjoyable family holiday. Around the region, there is much to visit, like Cabo Espichel headland or a scenic drive through the Arrabida hills and a visit to the paradise beaches of the Portinho de Arrabida.

ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas on Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Sesimbra also offers a wide selection of interesting attractions to fill children with a wonderful sense of delight and curiosity. Sesimbra Castle is an immensely breathtaking monument that is situated around half an hour away from Villa Tonto. This looming building was first crafted in 1201 and hosted many weird and beautiful fixtures. Thus, guests can get up close and personal with a wealth of exciting attractions, such as an unusual sculpture of King Sancho III. In turn, guests examine every element of this castle as they continue to observe a selection of marvellous panoramic views as they travel through. Therefore, this is an excellent attraction for history fanatics looking to expand their horizons with a twist.

One of the most unconventional aspects of this region is the diverse selection of street art on show. Most of these vast murals can be found in the local fishing village, further exemplifying the industry's influence on commerce and culture. These images usually depict fishermen defeating ferocious fictional sea monsters as they float along the fierce waves underneath them. As a result, this is a fantastic activity for older children or teenagers who wish to learn to learn more about this area through the medium of modern art. In addition, many of these pieces can be observed during a collection of local walking tours, ensuring that guests can marvel at this work alongside the company of other avid tourists.

Alongside its compressive portfolio of popular attractions, this region is well-recognised for its wide selection of flawless beaches, such as Sesimbra Beach. Equipped with a wealth of soft golden sand and crystal-clear water, this is a suitable landmark to visit if you want to let go of your normal worries and learn to appreciate what truly matters most. This beach is also just a short walk away from the local town, meaning that guests are free to indulge in a delicious bite to eat before returning to the beach for more fun. Sesimbra Beach can be found just over 30 minutes away from the villa.
