Masseria Cesamine is ideally located for getting to know many sides of Puglia. Close to the home, guests are able to head out in to the countryside, visit tiny villages, explore larger towns and spend leisurely days at the beach. This is a truly picturesque area which has something for everyone.
The home sits within expansive private grounds which overlook a patchwork of fields and historic olive groves. From here you can stroll out in to the surrounding countryside where you can make the most of local walking and cycling routes, take scenic horse rides or even play a round of golf at Acaya Golf Club which is 23km away. There is plenty to see and do within this idyllic rural landscape.
In addition to Puglia’s interior, you are well-placed for taking trips to the beaches, the closest of which is Spiaggia di San Giorgio, set just 12km away. The much-loved Baia dei Turchi is also easy to access at 15km away. This beautiful beach is sheltered by towering, limestone cliffs and the calm sea is a perfect swimming spot. If you would like to enjoy dinner with a sea view, the bay here is filled with restaurants and bars. Another popular beach is Alimini Beach which is 12km away and uniquely backs on to a picturesque lake, sand dunes and dense woodlands, offering lots of opportunities for lazy days in the sun as well as nature walks.
Although the villa is nestled within the countryside, you will not be isolated and can reach amenities with ease in the nearest village as it is just 2km away. As you wander around the small village you will come across a number of shrines, monuments and churches, due to the village being a stop on the pilgrim trail the Via Francigena. The historic village is a handy place to have nearby as you will find a range of eateries, shops and a supermarket. If you would like to head out for pizza in the pretty streets, the village is a great place to stop off.
You can find even more shops and restaurants 5km away in Martano which is a town steeped in history. This fascinating town was once a Greek settlement and to this day, some of the older people in the area speak in a Greek influenced dialect. Though this town is very close to the home, it has a completely different feel to other towns and villages nearby and is well worth a visit. The town is not a tourist centre, but you can see ancient churches and a castle called Palazzo Baronale.
15km away from the home, the lively port town of Otranto is a fantastic place for a day trip. Packed with historic sites and attractions, you will have lots to discover as you stroll around the atmospheric streets. The 11th century cathedral and the staggering 15th century castle are some of the highlights, plus on the coast you can find Torre Matta tower as well as a historic lighthouse, both of which offer incredible views. You will be able to spend a full day in Otranto as there are cafes, restaurants, craft shops and beaches here as well as the historic buildings.
If you would like to visit Lecce which is known as the most attractive city in Puglia, you are able to drive there in half an hour as the city is just 30km away. A guided tour is a brilliant way to see the city, before browsing the antique markets and great range of museums and galleries.
