Overview
Experience discreet luxury in an idyllic setting amongst the vines at this beautiful 3-bedroom holiday home set within a Luberon wine estate owned by a famous English filmmaker.
You will be warmly welcomed to Villa Grenade, a contemporary abode which exudes Provençal charm located in the vineyards in the foothills of the Luberon not far from the perched village of Oppède le Vieux. Exquisitely styled with comfortable furnishings, chic décor, artwork and even the occasional prop from the filmmaker’s illustrious career, guests can expect high-end features such as air-conditioning throughout, Smart TV, an iPod dock and a perfectly equipped kitchen.
There is a great sense of space on the ground floor with two elegant lounges alongside the kitchen-diner whilst upstairs you will find three sumptuous bedrooms, all with king-size double beds, gorgeous linen and en suite bathrooms. If you are looking for further space, you can also rent Villa Pamplemousse next door (the villas are separate but the gardens can be connected) - see Villa Pamplemousse and Villa Grenade.
The well-maintained gardens are glorious with two covered terraces for al-fresco lounging and dining as well as a gas barbecue. The serene swimming pool is gently heated in the summer months – it’s wonderful to swim as you look out towards the lavender, pines, cypress trees and Luberon hills.
It’s just a couple of minutes to stroll to the estate’s newly created wine cellar and inviting shop, open seven days a week in the high season. A complimentary hour-long tour is included where you can learn all about the winegrowing traditions of the region and taste the full range of wines from the aromatic collection. You can also admire some of the filmmaker’s costumes and sets displayed in the winery – a truly unique experience in the Luberon!
There’s a small village around 1.5km away, home to a café and restaurants, boulangerie and small grocery store, reached on foot in around 20 minutes (no pavement) or a very short drive. The perched village of Oppède le Vieux is only 4km by car, a medieval gem which is a joy to discover as you soak up its rich heritage and gaze at the glorious vistas around you.
Charming Ménerbes is also close by, just under a 10-minute drive away, whilst the iconic hilltop towns of Gordes, Bonnieux and Roussillon are waiting to be explored. Enjoy a wealth of delicious regional produce in gastronomic restaurants and local village markets, then appreciate the incredible scenery by walking, hiking or cycling past orchards, lavender and poppy fields, woodland and vineyards of course.
If you can find the time, visit Avignon or Aix-en-Provence, follow Van Gogh’s footsteps in St-Rémy, canoe or kayak along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and potter around the antique stores and Sunday morning brocante in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in this inspiring part of Provence.
What you should know…

- The gorgeous Le Soleil D’Or is also within the same wine estate, around 200m away.
- This villa is not suitable for children under the age of 12 – this is due to various reasons including the fact that there are works of art and unique furnishings/pieces across the home as well as the desire to create a calm ambience across the grounds with neighbouring Villa Pamplemousse.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: TeensVilla Grenade does not allow children under the age of 12.
Nevertheless, older children/teens will enjoy the spacious grounds and gently heated summer swimming pool alongside the Wi-Fi throughout, Smart TV and sense of space across the two lounges and terraces.
The landscapes of the Luberon are inspiring for every age and it’s wonderful to be able to discover the region on foot or by bike following walking and hiking trails through orchards, farmland, vineyards and woodland. There is a family-friendly cycle route, La Véloroute du Calavon, which follows a former railway line, the majority without cars, between Beaumettes and east of Apt. There is also horse-riding near Joucas and rock-climbing in Buoux.
Discover canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse as well as a popular tree-top adventure centre, Passerelles des Cîmes (14km). Colorado Aventures (32km) is another accrobranche centre within the pine trees and oaks near red-hued Roussillon.
Avignon is a great family day out, as are the interesting Grottes de Thouzon around half an hour away. In the same direction is the theme park Parc Spirou Provence (36km) and Wave Island, its neighbouring waterpark.

1992.
Are there any interesting stories in the property's history?
Before the 19th century, the surrounding region, the ‘Comtat Venaissin’, belonged to the papacy and, at that time, the Mas was a place of healing, probably run by Italian nuns.
The first official mention of the Mas appeared on the land register of Napoleon in 1831. The estate then belonged to the General Baron Robert, one of the illustrious generals and surgeon or "health officer" of Napoleon’s army.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really...
Must do? See the art and light exhibition in the quarry at Les Beaux-de-Provence.
Must eat? If you make a day trip to Marseille, then a real Bouillabaisse at Chez FonFon.
Must see? The views from the top of Mont Ventoux on a clear day - the road along the Gorges de la Nesque is the most amazing route there and back.
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
There are so many gorgeous little villages to explore, enjoy them by going earlier in the morning before the masses arrive so that after a wonderful lunch out, you can come back to the villa to enjoy the peaceful serenity in the garden and around the pool.

Absolute perfection
Villa Grenade is absolute perfection! The location was quiet and peaceful yet conveniently close to the many beautiful surrounding villages, markets, shops & restaurants. The home was spotlessly clean, and the beds and linens were 5 star. The kitchen is large, chic and was very well equipped. All of the home’s furnishings were beautiful & comfortable and made the overall feeling of the house very light, airy and luxurious. The pool and outdoor living areas were all pristine and beautiful as well. My husband and I have rented many luxury homes in this area over the past fifteen years and Villa Grenade far exceeded all of the others. The winery, which is a part of the domaine is a short walk away and their wines were divine. Perhaps the best perk was that the property manager was so incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay so perfect! I highly recommend Villa Grenade!
