This opulent property overlooking the bay of Villefranche-sur-mer offers both exceptional outdoor spaces, and unmatched privacy for guests. A villa in the French Riviera should also be judged on proximity to the coast - with just 90m standing between you and the sea, this one passes the test. The stately white arches beside the pool are indicative of the Belle Époque style you’ll find within - where intricate detailing and fine finishes will make you feel like royalty.

Every bedroom has its own private bathroom, though it’s doubtful guests will stay indoors long. Let the dog loose in the large lawned garden (an unusual find in this hilly part of town), or lie out on the poolside terrace to feel the sun’s caress. The rooftop offers the most glorious view of the sea you'll find anywhere - bar none.

Bicycles are provided, and you’ll find them handy. The town is entirely walkable from your holiday villa - you may simply park your car in the private garage and leave it there. A four minute walk brings you to the old town of Villefranche-sur-mer, where restaurants and shops stand clustered in the quirky, narrow streets of this lesser-known seaside gem.

Good news! For a little extra, this property can be booked as a Vill’otel

Yey! Wait… what is that?
It’s the perfect combo of the privacy of your own personal villa, with all the luxury and convenience of a hotel.

What can be arranged?
Breakfast, cleaning, welcome drinks and hamper, plus more! Check the Extras tab for all the details.

The villa is located 7 kilometers from Nice and is on the sea beside Cap Ferrat and Beaulieu sur Mer. It is central and convenient, only 90 metres from the beach or train station and a 4 minute walk to the port. It is ideal for children. A car is not necessary except for heavy grocery shopping.

Monte Carlo is a 15 minute drive away from the villa. This is probably the best part of the Cote D'Azur . Villefranche is a historic village and the Old Town is very unusual with streets only 2 metres wide in places.

Guide to the Cote d'Azur, Cap Ferrat and Villefranche-sur-Mer

The Cote d'Azur is the area of south-east France that runs along the coast from Bandol, west of Toulon, to Menton and the Italian border in the east. Part of the coast is also known as the French Riviera. The Cote d'Azur therefore includes the southern edges of the Var and Riviera departments. The Mediterranean coast (Cote d'Azur / Riviera) of south-east France includes such renowned resorts as Nice, Antibes, Saint-Tropez and Cannes. Rich, exclusive and sophisticated.

The coastline here is very beautiful and the weather is more consistently sunny than any other part of France (Corsica excepted). There are many small villages and towns along the coast and slightly inland where you will want to stop and explore.

Cap Ferrat is a peninsula into the Mediterranean just south of Villefranche-sur-Mer. Most of the peninsula is home to the very wealthy. Apart from walking along the (very beautiful) coast from St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, there are a couple of other reasons why you should visit. The first is the zoo and extensive parkland surrounding Les Cedres, the original villa to be built on the island (by King Leopold II)

The second is the Musee Ephrussi de Rothschild. Stunning even among the other villas in the area, the Villa of Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild (the 'Villa Ile de France') was built in the early part of the 20th century.

Both outside in the meticulously maintained gardens (separated into several parts, each with a different theme), and in the lavish interior of the villa, there are plenty of 'oooh' and 'aaah' moments as you come across yet more extraordinary items of art, furniture etc.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is in the Alpes-Maritimes department of the Cote d'Azur, close to the French border with Italy and 5 km from Nice.

The town is built on terraces up the hill that overlooks the azure blue sea and beautiful bay of the Mediterranean below. The town has been occupied since roman times, and there are some older buildings to be seen - you can't miss the 16th century citadel, the large walled building next to the water below the old town that is now home to a number of museums.

The big attraction in Villefranche-sur-Mer - seaside, harbour and beach apart - is the attractive old town with beautiful ancient houses lining the steep cobbled streets that wind up through the town.

One interesting feature that reminds you that you are in an ancient town - the streets that run along the hill (rather than up and down) pass through arches under the houses, creating a great atmosphere - the best known is called Rue Obscura.

There are also a couple of churches of interest eg Chapel Saint Pierre, featuring decoration by Cocteau, in the Villefranche-sur-Mer old town, before you ascend to the Mont Alban Fort for great views out across the sea and along the coast.

Perhaps equally interesting are the villas and 'palaces' of the rich and famous tucked away in the hills around the town.

Great villa with a superb view. Great layout and the very short walk to the train station was an added plus.

  • Would stay there again!

Great location. Cute town and close to train station. Would stay there again!

  • Exceeded all our expectations

Posted by Bernadette Ferric on 29/07/2019

This villa exceeded all out expectations. The property is elegant and the kitchen diner well planned. Air-conditioning was just what we needed when we returned from the nearby beach! The garden and swimming pool are perfect for adults and children with beautiful views across the bay. A very memorable holiday.

  • See for yourselves!

My wife and I have been going to Villefranche for many years. I can confirm to everyone that this is one of the best villas that we have ever stayed in during our business trips and holidays in Villefranche. We were looked after by the excellent management team. The owners were very charming and helpful. The location of the villa for the beach and the charming Old Town is a very short walk. There is a small supermarket within walking distance. The villa is spotless, beautifully furnished and equipped with all the necessary utensils. We will keep going there every year. We highly recommend this villa - don't take our word for it - see for yourselves!

Incredible! This property was everything as presented and so much more! First and foremost the communication from the very first request to the final departure was prompt and informative. Jonathan took the time to answer all questions, made recommendations and even helped us with a lead for chartering a boat which being high season we were finding availability tight. Gaston and Manuel personally met us at the property, helped us with unloading all our luggage and explaining the details on the property. They had even stocked us up on some starter groceries which was much appreciated (we were starving upon arrival!) They helped us organise some van transportation for our larger family when needed. The house and property were spotless, it was a hot spell in the French Riviera at the time and all the rooms were air conditioned and quite comfortable, all controllable by each room. There is so much outdoor living space which might be the best amenity given the “world class” views from each one of them. Although there is a private garage, there was absolutely no need for renting a car. The walk into the charming old town was a pleasant three minutes at best , same for the beaches which have both public sections and private (les Bain’s is incredible, they will fulfill all your beach needs and their beach restaurant is outstanding). Grocery store, various shopping stores and many, many restaurants in old town. Again no need to travel. We have been coming to nice for many years but Villefranche-sur-Mer offered so much more of quaint charming stay rather than the very busy feel. Needless to stay our family will be returning and definitely staying here again. Hope this helps anyone going through the due diligence and trying to make a final decision of which area and property to stay.
