Set in large wooded grounds, Bastide Des Chanterelles is a unique and historical home built in the 18th century just a short drive from historic cities and sleepy villages. Featuring 9 bedrooms including a 5-bedroom dormitory, the spacious house sleeps up to 20 guests, making it a comfortable base for family reunions.
Charming and full of its original character, the three-floor bastide was renovated in the 1960s to offer modern comfort while preserving much of its original atmosphere.
Right as you enter through the main door, you’ll be invited to relax in the warm and cosy living room fantastically equipped for unwinding and socialising. Another room is just behind the corner, with more sofas, a TV and a fireplace for enjoying idle moments together. At the top of the wide staircase you will find all the bedrooms, awash in a soothing colour palettes to exude an elegant yet homey feel. Children will love having sleepovers and telling bedtime stories in the five-bed dormitory – and there are even shelves stacked with books to serve as as a source of inspiration.
The main draw of the villa is its outdoor space; set in 4000m2 of wooded land planted with trees, shrubs and flowers. Follow the path through the gardens to the sun-dappled swimming pool where you can escape the warm summer sun or laze on the poolside terrace. You don’t even have to go back to the villa for refreshments, as the summer kitchen will provide all the essentials for preparing quick meals. Whether you want to eat al-fresco, read a book or simply soak up the nature around you, you’ll be able to always find a relaxing spot here – whether it’s the outdoor sofas, garden chairs, picnic benches or the long table designed for dining under the stars.
Tucked away from the crowds that flock to Toulon’s glistening shores during warm-weather months, Bastide Des Chanterelles is perfectly positioned to discover the region’s beautiful beaches, bustling nightlife, rich nature and the charm of typical Provençal villages.
However if you do want to visit the bustling city, then the centre of Toulon is just a 10-minute drive away, with its lovely terraced cafés and shops set amongst the winding lanes. Its historic harbour is ideal for strolling around, and there’s even a mountain Mont Faron nearby offering breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape.
Wine lovers can indulge in tasting sessions and shopping in Bandol, a seaside town known for its wine route. It has many restaurants, beaches and hidden corners to discover too.
Alternatively, in under an hour's drive, you can visit Aix-en-Provence, bursting at its seams with museums, squares, historic buildings and an excellent dining scene to savour regional delicacies.

- The house can comfortably sleep 12 guests in 6 double bedrooms plus 1 guest in a single bedroom. An additional 2 guests can be accommodated on a double sofa bed while a dormitory sleeps 5 children.

About the surrounding area of Bastide Des ChanterellesNestled in a local village known for its flower-filled streets, this charming bastide enjoys an idyllic location in southeastern France’s Var department.
The small town of Ollioules is characterised by accents of a typical Provençal village and is renowned for its flowers and olive trees. Idyllic and almost untouched by tourism, it’s known for promoting its artists and craftsmen whose workshops are open to the public all year round. There are plenty of restaurants around and the nearby supermarket is great for when you need to stock up on picnic items such as Provençal cheeses, artisanal hams and baguettes.
You might also love walks to the surrounding countryside, full of trees, wide country roads and the hilly Gros Cerveau peak in Sanary, easily reachable by car. After a picturesque hike, visit the Observatoire Astronomique du Gros Cerveau – an astronomical observatory with great views. Nearby, there’s park Marais du Gros-Cerveau which has a small lake, perfect for an afternoon picnic.
It’s also just a 15-minute drive to Bandol, a resort built around a small military port by the sea. On a sunny day, walk around the harbour and admire sailing boats and yachts or simply head straight to one of the powder-sand beaches lining its shores. Plage de Renécros offers swimming in a sheltered bay with fine-grained sand and is backed by excellent seafood restaurants. A bit further away, Plage du Grand Vala offers an escape from the crowds, and from Parc Du Capelan you can soak up postcard-worthy views of the sea and Ile Rousse in the distance.
For more hustle and bustle, head to Toulon. Just a 10-minute drive away, this port city is lined with pretty beaches and shingle coves home to one of the largest harbours in Europe. In its naval base and harbour there are submarines and warships, as well as fishing boats and ferries – and many maritime artefacts from the city’s history can be admired in the grand Musée National de la Marine.
Those who prefer nature to the wonders of a big seaside city can venture into the limestone mountains that form a backdrop of the city, and take the cable car or hike up Mont Faron.
Aix-en-Provence is superb for a day trip thanks to only being an hour's car drive away. It boasts a plethora of fascinating museums, squares with statues and fountains, historic buildings and a bustling dining scene. Worth visiting are Musée Granet, one of France’s first established museums, and Caumont Centre d’Art, a stellar art space housed inside the Mazarin quarter’s grandest 18th-century mansion.

However, when you feel like planning a fun field trip outside the property’s grounds, you’ll be pleased to find many attractions and places nearby.
Organise hiking trips to the surrounding leafy landscape to discover ruins and forts such as the Fort de Six-Fours. You’ll be able to enjoy wholesome picnics, some with a view, and teach children about France’s beautiful fauna and flora.
In Toulon, little ones will love taking the cable car up to Mont Faron and admiring the views from the top before learning about the city’s maritime history in the Musée de la Marine. Later on, you can recharge your batteries in one of the restaurants and ice cream parlours in the historic centre.
Thanks to its seaside position, there’s the opportunity to cool down in the sea on a warm summer day. Just a short drive away you can find many sandy beaches perfect for first-time swimmers, such as Plages du Mourillon. Backed by restaurants ideal for escaping the lunchtime heat, there are also watersports and easy access to the sea. A bit further, Plage de l'Anse de Méjean has crystal clear water where you’ll want to go snorkelling, canoeing and paddle boarding.
