Overview of Villa Des Anges

What Oliver loves…

  • The perfect choice for a couple seeking for a romantic retreat or, even better, an unforgettable honeymoon.
  • This villa in the Dordogne has a homey remodelled kitchen to prepare the local delicacies: truffles, duck, and foie gras.
  • The covered terrace beside the pool is a lovely spot to enjoy what you’ve cooked on the barbecue.
  • You’re close enough to bicycle to several nearby wineries!

What you should know…

  • If you’re too warm, take a dip in the private pool (there’s no AC).
  • A car will help you see the sights - we recommend having one!

A beautiful romance can easily flourish in this precious country cottage in the Dordogne. Everything a couple needs is within the four rough-hewn walls of the petit villa, but your honeymoon will truly bloom in the gardens, and the countryside beyond. You won’t believe your eyes as you swim in the small private pool, the rolling green hills stretching out before you, the flowers in the garden nodding their heads.

Use the villa’s bicycles to ride to Saint Méard de Gurçon (2 km), a town full of flowers, gorgeous architecture, and award-winning wine. Indeed, you’re in the middle of wine country; don’t pass over the chance to taste your way through the Bergerac wine region (just follow the Dordogne river toward Bergerac, 30 km away). In the opposite direction you can visit Château de Montaigne (15 km), a wine-producing castle where French philosopher Michel de Montaigne was born.

An hour’s drive will take you to the architecture, gardens, and wine of Bordeaux - La Perle d'Aquitaine. The Bergerac airport is your nearest escape from the region (29 km), but don't fret, this is just the beginning. Come write your love's first chapter in this simple, peaceful villa for two.

Map, Location & Local Information

Villa des Anges is strategically set on the Montravel road, in between the towns of Saint Emilion and Bergerac.

The closest village is Saint Méard de Gurçon (2 km), with its flower lined roads, a magnificent Gothic church and also renowned for its excellent wine producers.

Sainte Foy La Grande, a 13th century bastide town facing the Dordogne river is about 10 km away as is Montpone with its lively Wednesday market.

A visit to the world heritage site of Saint Emilion is also strongly recommended.

The whole area swarms of tourist attractions and entertaining activities including wine-tasting tours such as the famous Route des Vins de Bergerac, cruises down the Dordogne river, horse-back riding, tennis and golf.

The Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Reviews for Villa Des Anges

Villa Des Anges Reviews

  • Beautiful Autumn Break

Posted by Andrina S on 15/06/2017

This is a gorgeous country stone cottage, set in the beautiful Dordogne and the hosts were very warm and welcoming. We visited in early October and the weather was beautiful. The mornings were chilly, but the views and mist across the fields was stunning. We ate outside under the al fresco dining terrace every evening and swam in the stunning pool. There is ample space for just 2 of you, with a lovely big kitchen, and all that you could need for entertaining if you had company.

The area is absolutely stunning, with the beautiful Dordogne river running through the local town of Saint-Foy-la-Grande and medieval city of Bergerac a short drive away.

A visit to the UNESCO world Heritage site of St-Emilion is a must, as well as sampling a never-ending array of fabulous wines. We loved it.

  • We had a lovely time

Posted by John M on 29/10/2016

A lovely and relaxing time in a cosy cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside which we got to explore on the mountain bikes. We had a lovely time here, just what we both needed. We leave refreshed and revived. Thank you. (The cheese and wine was divine).

  • Beautiful and relaxing Place

Posted by Andrine & Peter on 08/10/2016

A lovely and relaxing holiday. Beautiful pool and cottage with everything we needed. Saint-Emilion is definitely worth a visit.

  • Idyllic

Posted by Maxie & Ken on 09/07/2016

A really relaxing break. Nothing to worry about – everything so pleasant. Idyllic area for people from London. Hope to see you again.

  • Perfection!

    Created on 02/06/2016

A warm welcome from delightful hosts and a delicious bottle of wine. The house is very comfortable, well-equipped with everything we needed, especially the spacious beds and bedrooms! The garden is stunning, located in beautiful surroundings with a lovely view over the fields. The pools was glorious and very inviting. The area boasts lots of interesting places to visit, especially Saint Emilion and its delicious wines. There is plenty of choice at the supermarkets and the local village shop is very handy. We left felling thoroughly relaxed and sad to leave this peaceful place in the sun. Merci Beaucoup!
