Overview
A beautiful romance can easily flourish in this precious country cottage in the Dordogne. Everything a couple needs is within the four rough-hewn walls of the petit villa, but your honeymoon will truly bloom in the gardens, and the countryside beyond. You won’t believe your eyes as you swim in the small private pool, the rolling green hills stretching out before you, the flowers in the garden nodding their heads.
Use the villa’s bicycles to ride to Saint Méard de Gurçon (2km), a town full of flowers, gorgeous architecture, and award-winning wine. Indeed, you’re in the middle of wine country; don’t pass over the chance to taste your way through the Bergerac wine region (just follow the Dordogne river toward Bergerac, 30km away). In the opposite direction you can visit Château de Montaigne (15km), a wine-producing castle where French philosopher Michel de Montaigne was born.
An hour’s drive will take you to the architecture, gardens, and wine of Bordeaux - La Perle d'Aquitaine. The Bergerac airport is your nearest escape from the region (33km), but don't fret, this is just the beginning. Come write your love's first chapter in this simple, peaceful villa for two.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Beautiful Villa Des Anges
Our second visit to beautiful Villa Des Anges but for two fab weeks this time. Stunning place to visit future guests:
St. Emillion, Duras and the Chateau, Eymet, Bergerac, Saint Foy La Grande + Saturday markets.
Yummy places to eat locally are Le Pressoir - just down the village plus Bucket's Auberge Inn at Montazeua just 10 mins drive to a beautiful village also. Amazing food and value.
We came with a car this time which let us explore the stunning countryside.
Thank you Sophie for sharing your little bit of heaven with us. We will certainly be back. -
A wonderful, relaxing stay
We have had a wonderful, relaxing stay. Villa Des Anges is a delightful little house with such an amazing outlook. We saw deer on a few occasions! We appreciated all the attention to the detail within the house and lovely gardens. We were in an ideal area to get out and about and explore this beautiful part of the world. We particularly recommend “Buckets” for dinner – delicious food, excellent service and pretty view. Sophie was quickly responsive to any queries we had during out stay – many thanks.

We will miss the deer sightings, the pool and the beautiful view.

-
Wonderful location
We have just spent 2 relaxing weeks at this wonderful location.
Sophie is the perfect host, providing information and ideas.
It was lovely to see the deer in the filed. One was a stag with superb antlers. Best time to look for them in 8:30 – 9:30 in the evening.
St. Emilion was well worth a visit especially if you like wine!
We have read so many books during our stay and having the views and made this the idea stay for us.
-
Superb!
The house and the setting were superb, and we were very well received by Cécile.
We particularly appreciated the calm of the surroundings as well as the interior decoration of the house.
I will not fail to recommend your villa to our Norwegian network.
Wishing you an excellent summer! -
A little “corner of paradise”
We enjoyed our stay at the Villa des Anges, a little “corner of paradise”
The house met our expectations, very comfortable and very clean.
It is also nicely decorated.
We thank Cécile and Mathieu for their warm welcome.
We will come back with great pleasure. -
Amazing!
What an amazing location in the middle of the beautiful French countryside. Thank you Sophie for making the house and gardens such a wonderful place to stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing byt the pool, visiting Bergerac and Perigueux, wine tasting near St. Emilion and 3 lovely bike rides, using the veloverte along the banks of the Dordogne.
Some delicious meals at le Pressoir and Buckets Auberge Inn. -
We had such a wonderful time
We had such a wonderful time at Cecile's house. It was not clear to us that the house is located in a nature reserve in the middle of the forest. The calm there was really indescribable. Cecile has put so much love in every corner of the house - it is so lovingly furnished and nothing is missing. We are also big design fans like Cecile, so we felt so comfortable and didn't want to go home anymore.
We really enjoyed the time. We liked Provence so much - it's so beautiful there.

A beautifully relaxing holiday!
What an idyllic setting for a beautifully relaxing holiday! Thank you so much, Sophie, for being such an excellent host, welcoming us to the lovely property. We’ ve enjoyed a delightful two weeks, exploring the wonderful countryside, drifting down the river, wandering the markets, chilling in cafes, and here, by the pool.
Or just relax in your garden! Thanks for all the local advice in where to visit, to have lunch, to explore, to enjoy our time here – and especially for your care and hospitality towards us. -
A lovely relaxing week
We have had a lovely relaxing week in beautiful surroundings and enjoying the views. Rather mixed weather with some extremely heavy showers of rain. S. Emilion was well worth the visit too. Many thanks for our welcome wine, baguette and pate.
The cottage and setting are lovely. The pool, sunbeds, and outdoor eating area have been really pleasant.
We went to Sant Emilion by the country roads which is really nice. -
We’ve had a really lovely couple of weeks here
We’ve had a really lovely couple of weeks here. The weather has been a bit ‘iffy’ but we’ve managed a couple of hot days by the pool and lot of exploring of local towns and villages and visiting lots of markets. We loved St. Emilion and Périgueux . Watching a Mother Deer with a baby deer dancing behind her in the long grass was funny.

C'est magnifique!
As other reviewers have said, the property is exactly like the pictures - well looked after and feels like a home just waiting for you. The pool looks out onto a large, beautiful field/meadow and there's lots of lovely trees and bushes with birds and butterflies.
The kitchen had everything we needed utensil-wise and so we ate in most days, giving us ample time to rest and relax - inside and out depending on the weather. The wifi strength was enough for casual needs and we had 4G when far from the property.
The host was warm and welcoming, a lovely person, and she recommended lots of places to eat and timings of towns to visit to see markets. We didn't have enough good weather to do so (unusual, we're assured!) but there are some long walking trails in the area that take you through the woods.
The boulangerie in Saint Méard de Gurçon is fantastic. We highly recommend the "Restaurant Le Pressoir" in the village for a dinner, and we had a lovely lunch at "L'un des Sens" in Villefranche-de-Lonchat.
Thank you again to the host and we hope to visit again :) -
Lovely relaxing week spent in a wonderful setting
Lovely relaxing week spent in a wonderful setting.
The weather has been glorious (if at times a little too warm!). We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. -
Really good, believe me!
Villa des Anges looks very pretty in the photographs. So often, the arrival has a little less lustre as things have changed, or worn - not so in this super sweet cottage of very generous proportions for two. Everything is as you might want it at home, with no expense spared. All the house tools and kitchen equipment are in good order, and the kitchen and bathroom layouts themselves are generous and comfortable. I loved cooking here, looking out onto a shingle courtyard in front of an extensive garden.
The outside of the property, too, is well cared for, and the tile covered terrace by the pool adds another room to enjoy. What took our breath away is the massive field which you can glimpse in some of the pictures, which is the backdrop to the lovely pool. At the time, we were blessed with a full Summer bloom of wildflowers around a metre high, stretching far away to a distant solid line of trees surrounding the property. Beautiful mature trees dot the garden itself, which is all for your enjoyment, adding a choice of sun dappled retreats.
The gated entrance and enclosures allow for ample car parking, and you can do this under a wisteria parkway if the sun is too strong. The owner is clearly a generous soul who wants her guests to be as happy as if this were their second home, which it is, at least for a while. However, she is hardly ever seen, and has a separate entrance to the main house which she accesses through a separate driveway.
Thank you to the owner for such a gift for us all to enjoy, and thank you to Oliver’s Travels for curating this property. -
Marvellous
Marvellous property and host.

What is there not to love!
An oasis, beautiful countryside in the Dordogne. What is there not to love!
Sophie thank you for taking us and for all your warmth and help.
We will certainly return. -
Very relaxing week
Thank you for the welcoming gift of your wine. We have had a very relaxing week here; doing very little but enjoying the peace and quiet of your beautiful house. Went kayaking at Gardonne, saw eagle's fishing and a kingfisher. Spent lots of time at the lake at Lac de Gurson learning how to paddle board. Free use of boards and kayaks if you don't have your own. Saw deer and rabbits in your lovely grounds. Definitely a lovely place to unwind.
-
Beautiful
Thank you for making us so welcome in your beautiful cottage - it's just stunning. We've been very lazy whilst we were here, partly due to the heat, but just because we were so relaxed. The cottage has everything you could need & more! Everywhere was spotlessly clean when we arrived and this was very much appreciated. The pool & grounds are amazing - We hope to be back!
-
Wonderful week
A wonderful week spent sleeping late, lounging by the pool, cooking lovely meals, visiting local vineyards - and enjoying married life. We couldn't have asked for a better minimoon!
-
A great time
What a week! Thank you very much for the relaxing stay at your villa. We have had such a great time!
Recommendations for future visitors to the area:
- We went kayaking down Dordogne with canoe attitude: lovely way to spend a few hours
- Day trip to Salat: lovely town
- Cycled to two local vineyards on the bikes provided, lovely views of the countryside, especially if you visit Chateau La Raz
- Day trip to Bergerac - had a fabulous meal at Le Bistro D'en face which overlooks Bergerac
- Dinner in La Pressoir was lovely - they have a gorgeous terrace! -
Amazing
It has taken 2 years to get here - well worth the wait. Exactly what we wanted: peace and quiet, fabulous weather, including an amazing electrical storm overnight. Thanks for your hospitality.
p.s. The restaurant Le Pressoir is excellent, well worth a visit -
Highlight was private pool.. and view
The owners have put a lot of love and energy into this little holiday home - the highlight was the private pool, shaded outdoor seating area and the view.
-

Beautiful Autumn Break
This is a gorgeous country stone cottage, set in the beautiful Dordogne and the hosts were very warm and welcoming. We visited in early October and the weather was beautiful. The mornings were chilly, but the views and mist across the fields was stunning. We ate outside under the al fresco dining terrace every evening and swam in the stunning pool. There is ample space for just 2 of you, with a lovely big kitchen, and all that you could need for entertaining if you had company.
The area is absolutely stunning, with the beautiful Dordogne river running through the local town of Saint-Foy-la-Grande and medieval city of Bergerac a short drive away.
A visit to the UNESCO world Heritage site of St-Emilion is a must, as well as sampling a never-ending array of fabulous wines. We loved it. -
We had a lovely time
A lovely and relaxing time in a cosy cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside which we got to explore on the mountain bikes. We had a lovely time here, just what we both needed. We leave refreshed and revived. Thank you. (The cheese and wine was divine).
-
Beautiful and relaxing Place
A lovely and relaxing holiday. Beautiful pool and cottage with everything we needed. Saint-Emilion is definitely worth a visit.
-
Idyllic
A really relaxing break. Nothing to worry about – everything so pleasant. Idyllic area for people from London. Hope to see you again.

Perfection!
A warm welcome from delightful hosts and a delicious bottle of wine. The house is very comfortable, well-equipped with everything we needed, especially the spacious beds and bedrooms! The garden is stunning, located in beautiful surroundings with a lovely view over the fields. The pools was glorious and very inviting. The area boasts lots of interesting places to visit, especially Saint Emilion and its delicious wines. There is plenty of choice at the supermarkets and the local village shop is very handy. We left felling thoroughly relaxed and sad to leave this peaceful place in the sun. Merci Beaucoup!
