Villa Opera has located 14km from Trogir and 16km from Split in the unique, romantic town of Kastel Gomilica. The town is one of seven castle settlements built in the 15th and 16th centuries, protecting a 20km stretch of stunning Dalmation coastline. Aside from Gomilica, the other castles are Sucurac, Kambelovac, Luksic, Stari, Novi and Stafilic. Kastel Gomilica is a popular attraction as it was used as a filming location for Game of Thrones.

The Salona ruins are 11km away, and a marked mountain path leads from Kastel Stari to the Malacka saddle, where you can hike through Kozjak and the Kastela Hinterland. The lookout gives a magnificent view of the bay, Split, Marjan, Trogir and the central Dalmatian islands. Kastela is popular with cultural travellers, a perfect spot for ocean-side walks with Ciova and Split views and offering a plethora of cafes, restaurants, shops, and daily markets.

Split is an incredible city, a seafront gem combining honeycombs of unique, historic buildings, particularly the Diocletian’s Palace, with a cosmopolitan, palm-lined promenade brimming with trendy eateries. The atmospheric, narrow streets are full of majestic monuments, cosy restaurants, cafes, bars and unique shops. Split’s main city beach, Bacvice, becomes a popular night-time jaunt in the evening. You can take boat trips to the stunning islands of Hvar, Vis and Brac. Hvar is glitzy and the chic's chosen destination and rich with phenomenal hotels and a marina full of luxury yachts. Brac boasts the famous Zlatni Rat beach at Bol, which adorns most Croatia holiday posters. Vis, the furthest away, is a gorgeous, remote, craggy island with a laid-back rural vibe.

Trogir is a wonderful walled city. The amazing historical buildings include the Cipiko Palaces and the remarkable St. Lawrence Cathedral. On summer nights, everyone leaves the knotted, maze-like, marble streets and gravitates to the promenade lined with cafes, bars, restaurants and luxury yachts.

Omis is very popular for a day trip. It is known as the city of pirates as it is situated at the Cetina River's mouth. Omis is home to many churches, and old Franciscan monastery and the Fortress Starigrad. In summer, the Klapa Festival is such fun with capella singing in churches and squares in the old town. Other popular day trips are to the Cetina River, about 40 minutes away for some thrilling fun, the magnificent Krka Waterfalls about an hour away and the Plitvice Lakes National Park.

The city of Split, with its magnificent historical sites, scenic coastal vistas, and a welcoming local atmosphere, is a must-visit destination for travellers in search of the perfect balance of culture, relaxation, and adventure. Nestled along the captivating Dalmatian Coast, it’s a vibrant mix of modern life and ancient history, making it a thriving hub for both locals and tourists.

The heart of Split is the historic Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world. Built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century, this massive complex now forms the nucleus of the city. Within the palace walls, you'll discover a labyrinth of narrow streets, charming squares, and historic buildings. The Peristyle, an open-air courtyard, is a central gathering place, and both the Cathedral of Saint Domnius and the Temple of Jupiter showcase remarkable examples of ancient architecture. Strolling through the ancient streets, you'll come across quaint shops, lively cafes, and local markets.

The Riva promenade is the city's vibrant waterfront hub. Lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops, it's the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, sip a coffee, or dine while overlooking the stunning Adriatic Sea. The palm-lined promenade offers a lively atmosphere day and night, with street performers and events throughout the year.

Just a short walk from the from the centre of Split is Marjan Hill, a pristine nature park that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets. The park features lush greenery, jogging trails, and stunning viewpoints overlooking the city and the sea. It's an ideal place for hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the Mediterranean.

The Split region offers a variety of beautiful beaches. Bacvice and Ovcice are two popular choices conveniently located near the city centre. The sandy shores are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and trying your hand at the local beach sport, picigin. Exploring further along the coast, you'll find numerous rocky coves and pebble beaches, each with their own unique charm.

For adventure seekers, Split offers a wide array of outdoor activities and water sports. From kayaking and paddle-boarding to sailing and scuba diving, there's something for everyone who wants to experience the Adriatic up close. Split is a great base for taking boat trips to the nearby islands, where you can explore underwater caves and secluded beaches.

Croatian cuisine is known for its fresh, local ingredients and Mediterranean influence. You’ll be able to savour delicious seafood, grilled meats, and traditional recipes. To experience authentic Croatian flavours, visit the local konoba (taverns) that serve traditional dishes like pasticada (a slow-cooked beef stew), and peka (baked meat and vegetables). Pair your meal with local wines and olive oils for a complete gastronomic experience.

Split is a city of remarkable beauty and historical significance. Whether you're exploring ancient streets, soaking up the sun on pristine beaches, or indulging in delectable local cuisine, Split promises an unforgettable experience. Its blend of stunning natural landscapes, ancient history, and a welcoming Mediterranean lifestyle makes it a destination that offers something for every traveller.

Children will love their Dalmatian holiday staying in Villa Opera. The pool is lovely and the villa is very spacious with plenty of room to play. PS4 is provided for your enjoyment. The local beach is just a 5 minute drive away.

Children will be thrilled by a trip to the breathtaking Cetina River. The Cetina River is action-packed with an awesome zipline, canyoning, river tubing, rafting, canoeing and paragliding. The river’s source is the Dinara mountains and it ends at Omis. River tubing is such great fun. You sit in giant inflatable donuts and descend down the small river rapids just north of the village of Kucice. Family adventures rafting the rapids are popular or the bravest buckle up and fly like Batman through the lush forest surrounding the beautiful water and zipline across the river. The minimum age for this incredible experience is 7. Young children will accompanied by a guide in tandem plummets. There are 8 wires in total. You can rent see-through kayaks so that when you are paddling down the river you can explore the flora and fauna. The rafting takes place in the northern part of the river where there are exciting rapids and challenging waterfalls to descend. White water rafting takes place in a section of 10km starting north of Kucice. While doing this you will also discover one of the prettiest beaches, Stuzica. The rafting ends in the village of Blato na Cetini where you can have lunch in a restaurant along the bank of the river. Canyoning takes a lot of courage. Expert guides help adventurous guests plunge into newly discovered rocky areas and clear waters, providing the most exhilirating and unforgettable experience. You will swim underneath powerful waterfalls, flow down naturally formed chutes and jump into emerald pools.

There are many lovely beaches in the area to enjoy as a family. There are 6km of sandy beaches around Duce and Omis. Znjan is the newest built beach in Split. There are trampolines, bouncy castles, paddle boats with slides and electric scooters. There is a leisure park at Split’s Bacvice Beach. Picigin is a local game played in the shallow water where participants pass a ball around by hitting it with the palm of their hand without it going into the sea.

In Split you can rent bikes and enjoy the palace in the old town and visit Marjan Hill. The park offers promenades, nature paths, vista views, playgrounds, bird and rare plant watching and the tiny Split zoo. There is a little train you can take from the Split National Theatre to visit many of the local attractions. Split’s Magic City is an indoor playroom, maybe ideal if you have a wet day.
