What you should know…

  • It's good to note the villa is on an incline and has 26 steps up so not suitable for those with limited mobility.
  • Although you can walk to the beach, local shop and restaurant, a car would be great to explore more such a Saklikent Gorge, Patara & Kas. Local taxis are reasonably priced too.
  • For winter stays there is heating and duvets for the beds. The pool isn't heated but the sea is an ok swimming temperature late into the year.
  • Solar heated water

Kisla Prime is a short, 5-minute drive from Kalkan – a vibrant Turkish town known for its charming character, stunning architecture and striking natural scenery. With a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere and plenty of things to do and see it is an ideal choice for families and couples alike.

Kalkan is at the foot of the Taurus mountains, and so there are plenty of fantastic walking, biking and hiking routes. Most people use the old fishing village, turned popular holiday destination, as a base to visit the nearby Lycian ruins – interesting ancient sites – or engage in the many local activities. You can’t come to this beautiful part of Turkey without exploring Xanthos, Patara and Myra.

In the town, you can visit one of the bustling markets where you’ll find everything from spices to hand-made rugs, produce and jewellery or browse the boutique shops. Look out for stalls selling fresh gozleme (savoury pancakes). Stop off for a drink and bite to eat at one of the waterfront cafes or famous roof-top restaurants, offering fantastic food and unrivalled views of the bay.

In Kalkan, you can also take your pick from a selection of stunning golden beaches. There’s Kalkan beach near the marina, and Kaputas, a scenic sandy cove about 7km east of Kalkan or Patara Beach, which is also a National Park. Most of the beaches have beach clubs which offer sports like sea kayaking, scuba diving and parasailing and have decking for lounging and restaurants.

For more aquatic adventures, you can jump on a traditional boat from Kalkan harbour to explore the surrounding bays and coves. Boats also leave Kas (a 30-minute drive away) to the island of Kekova where there are half-submerged ancient 2nd-century ruins. The whole family can discover them via swimming, snorkelling or sea kayaking.

Kalkan

Kalkan has become boutique resorts, with cobbled streets and converted Greek houses, which belonged to the Greek merchants before the exchange of population in the 1920’s. Once quiet fishing harbours these days you are more likely to see traditional wooden gulets taking tourists to soak up rays on the sparkling turquoise Mediterranean. A boat trip is a must do, from the boat you can snorkel and usually a delicious lunch is prepared on board. Keen walkers should check out the Lycian way for designated walking paths in the area.

You cannot come to this area without spending  some time exploring the many Lycian sights, such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra or the sunken city of Kekova.

Patara is said to be where democracy started (they excavated stone voting block) and is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas, who became bishop at nearby Myra. The ruins here include an ancient theatre, city walls, government build and agora. The lighthouse on the site is said to be the earliest of its kind. Visit Patara in the late afternoon and finish the trip with a drink on the sandy beach watching the amazing sunset.

The Salikent Gorge is a great place to visit, especially if you want to cool off in the fresh waters whilst walking up the gorge. For the more energetic there are rafts and rings to ride the flowing waters. Further down you can enjoy a day canoeing toward the beach.

Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.

By night both Kalkan and Kas come alive. Kas has more of a bohemian feel, people ambling through the cobbled streets, passing the ancient tomb in the street, haggling for textiles, carpets and other goodies, maybe stopping for the traditional Turkish ‘maras’ ice cream, a tulip-shaped glass of tea or a wonderful kebab in the shadow of the mosque. Most of the villas in Kas are just out of town on the Cukurbag Peninsula. A reasonable (5km) taxi or Dolmus (local bus) ride into town. Be sure to try the Piyaz, a white bean salad with tahini sauce.

Travelling along the coast, towards Kalkan you pass the modern marina, the children’s beach park (run by the local hotel school) and halfway to Kalkan the stunning Kaputas Beach, cut in a gorge with all different shades of turquoise in the sea.

Kalkan is a more sophisticated resort, with the villas built onto the mountainside. Evening are spent enjoying the rooftop restaurants, perched on the top of the old ‘konak’ houses. Then wandering to a seaside bar for a cocktail, after shopping for glass lanterns, Iznik pottery, handbags or pestemel towel. Do visit the ‘pastane’, local patisseries which do the most delicious morning pastries and you must try the ‘Gozleme’ pancakes at the Thursday market.

Other things to do in the area include scuba diving as the visibility is excellent, paragliding, horseriding on Patara Beach or kayaking around the sunken ruins at Kekova.

The there are closer beach clubs, some a short walk away, with restaurants, sun loungers and opportunities to take part in adrenaline-fuelled water sports.

In the cooler months, you can go walking in the foothill of the Taurus Mountains and explore the surrounding forests and olive groves. You could also jump on a traditional wooden boat from Kalkan harbour to traverse the coastline, stopping for swimming and snorkelling, or head further afield to Kas where glass-bottomed boats take you to the island of Kekova with half-sunken ruins.

Reviews

  • Loved everything about it

    on 24/08/2023

Seven family members, including a five year old, stayed at Kisla Prime for ten nights. We loved everything about it - the lovely views, the facilities, the clean and spacious accommodation (comfy beds). There was a modern kitchen area which was very well-equipped. There was also a BBQ that we used one night. The pool was a good size and there was an outdoor pool table which provided much family entertainment. We had a couple of minor maintenance issues but these were resolved quickly by either the Property Manager or the owner(s) of the Villa. We were very impressed with the information and help we received from Kisla Prime owners both at the time of booking and in the run-up to our stay. Any questions we had were responded to very quickly and helped contribute to a most enjoyable family holiday.

  • Large and very well fitted out

    on 17/07/2023

It’s a lovely villa overlooking the Kalkan bay, with an infinity pool that keeps you cool in the hot sun. The villa is large and very well fitted out. And a really nice place to come back to after a hard days holidaying.

  • Views are to die for

    on 20/10/2022

The size of the villa is amazing and everyone having their own bathrooms is fabulous. Views are to die for. The communications between myself and the owners were spot on and I felt completely at ease with our booking at all times.

  • Superb accommodation

    on 09/07/2022

We rented Kisla Prime for our family holiday this year. We know Kalkan well and have stayed in the Kisla area many times. Kisla is a quiet residential area a short taxi ride from the main town. It's a wonderful Villa with superb accommodation and is well furnished. The Infinity pool is particularly lovely overlooking the bay and the Villa a short walk from the local beach club. The manager was particularly helpful and arranged for fresh bread to be delivered every day. We enjoyed Kisla Prime very much and would book again when returning. Unfortunately that will not be next year due to the pressures of changing family requirements but probably 2024.

  • Beautiful

    on 13/06/2022

The Villa is beautiful. Everything possible is there for your comfort. The pool is amazing as is the view. Nilgun, the lady who met us is lovely and helpful. Hattie the owner was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish and goes out of the way to make sure you have lots of info about the area. I would recommend a visit to Kisla Prime if you are looking for a lovely relaxing holiday. We will definitely be back.

  • Views are breathtaking

    on 24/09/2019

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kisla Prime. Comfy and in a good location. Easy to get into town and taxis know where it is ! Pool is a huge bonus and the views are breathtaking. Highly recommend.

  • Highly Recommended

    on 07/08/2019

Kisla is beautiful, in a stunning location in Kisla, with fantastic views over Kalkan Bay. Many hours were spent in the infinity pool admiring the vista and watching the boats.
The house was very well appointed and accommodated six adults very easily. We arrived after midnight having driven from Dalaman, the welcome pack was generous and gratefully received. The kitchen has everything you need to be able to prepare food for families.
Evenings were spent wandering the streets in Kalkan, which is stunning, deciding which restaurant to eat in (there are many) and shopping. The people working in Kalkan are so friendly and welcoming.
We would recommend Sunset Boats for trips out to sea, Kalkan beach club for the slide! And Kalamar beach club, which if you book a taxi to collect you, they pay for along with the return journey.
Instructions on arrival at the villa are very clear. The deposit was returned in record time.
I would highly recommend booking this villa.
