Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids

Located amongst hectares of beautiful Menorcan countryside, the impressive rural finca Finca Cotaina is ideal for large groups looking for an atmospheric, spacious countryside home where guests can totally relax and enjoy magical scenery. Finca Cotaina boasts six delightful bedrooms sleeping 12 lucky guests. It is an unbeatable, totally secluded location in the small town of Alaior. In this envious elevated countryside location, guests enjoy superb, far reaching views over the Menorcan countryside and out to sea.

Alaior is located in the centre of the island with the nearest beaches being Cala en Porter and Son Bou, both around 10 kilometres from the villa. Alaior was founded by King James II of Mallorca in 1304, built around the old Ihalor hill from where it takes its name. In the town, the Baroque inspired church rises majestically with narrow winding streets surrounding it, brimming with whitewashed houses. Alaior is the birthplace of the internationally renowned Menorcan cheese, Queso de Menorca, as well as homemade sausages, ice creams, pastries and liquors.

Finca Cotaina has been completely restored retaining atmospheric nods from the past. It boasts the charm of the old stately country houses typical of Menorca with high vaulted and sloping ceilings, warm terracotta floors and vast spaces. Modern comforts have made Finca Cotaina a wonderful holiday home. Guests enjoy utter tranquility with 100 hectares of natural countryside surrounding the villa. This extraordinary villa is built over two floors with wonderful living spaces on the ground and second floors. The main, ground floor living space enjoys a super-high, pitched, beamed ceiling and huge doors and windows that drown the room in natural light. Colourful sofas blend perfectly with the dazzling white walls and warm terracotta floor. Huge French doors open to the terrace and the shaded alfresco lounge space. Double doors also open to the elegant indoor dining area with its cool blue beamed ceiling and chandelier. The enormous country style kitchen offers excellent appliances and a charming breakfast table. Every space is huge, including the grand entrance hallway.

Each of the six bedrooms has a style of its own, most offering ensuite bathrooms and two with dressing rooms. One even has a private living room. For those that enjoy space, this villa is hard to beat. You will find fabulous floors, beamed ceilings, traditional furnishings and ancient nods from the past. The upper living space is beautifully furnished, another excellent space where you can enjoy family games and your holiday read. Its perfect if you have youngsters who want some time on their own to play while you discuss the plans for the following day.

Finca Cotaina enjoys a fabulous garden and a terrace which surrounds the villa. The 14 m x 4 m swimming pool is a delight which will, no doubt, be the scene of much family fun. Sun loungers and parasols surround the pool from where guests can soak up the extraordinary panorama. This is an exceptional property where you cannot fail to relax!

The rural small town of Alaior is only 18 minutes from the airport. In no time at all, you will be settling into your wonderful villa. The countryside views from this gorgeous elevated position are tremendous. Next to the striking church you will find the Munt de l’Angel Park with its fabulous views. The surrounding countryside is littered with pathways and trails for walkers, cyclists and runners such as the route that leads from the Ermita de San Llorenc to Binixems. Pretty windmills surround the town.

The closest beaches to Finca Cotaina are Cala en Porter and Son Bou, the longest stretch of dazzling sand on the island. Cala en Porter can be reached from Alaior by bus if you do not want to take the car. It offers a beautiful sandy beach and some charming artisan cobblers and jewellery designers in the town. Cala en Porter is well loved by visitors for its delightful restaurants, bars, nightclubs, little pop-up market stalls on some evenings and its fabulous beach. It is set on the cliffs of a stunning bay in a now protected nature area giving fantastic views. As the light fades the frogs in the nature reserve begin their nightly chorus. The coast has two delights, Covas den Xoroi and Cales Coves - wonderful for snorkeling, swimming and sun bathing. Covas den Xoroi is located in spectacular natural cave 25m above the sea with outdoor platforms to gaze at the incredible sunsets and listen to live music.

Ciutedella, known as ‘Vella I Belli’ (‘Old and Beautiful’), is just moments away. It is Menorca’s second city with a picturesque port and an engaging old quarter lined with grand gold-tinged buildings. The medieval streets are filled with palaces, churches and fortresses as well as wonderful restaurants and bars. Placa d’es Born is one of the most picturesque squares in Ciutedella. It is a delight to explore. Waterside dining can be found at the port. If you get there early enough you can watch the fishermen bringing in the local catch of the day. You can also catch a ferry from here to Alcudia in Mallorca. Ciutedella celebrates its local festival on 23 and 24 June each year and the party is one of the most spectacular festivals in Menorca.

The island’s picturesque capital Mahon is known locally as Mao and is a lively city rich in history and culture. The 18th century gin distillery is very interesting and there are many independent shops selling leather, pottery and other crafts as well as boutiques and restaurants.  Close to the Placa Espanya is the pretty 18th century Carme church. Next door is the buzzy early morning fish market. Mahon is well known for its classy nightlife and waterfront bars and clubs. Mahon’s huge natural harbour is best seen on a boat trip. There are many, including glass-bottomed boats.

Not far from Finca Cotaina is the wonderful beach of Binebeca. In the summer months there are kayaks and electric fun boats to hire as well as sun beds and parasols. There are also tennis courts, bars and restaurants. Binibeca Vell is an appealing, idyllic, old traditional Menorcan fishing village in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is very picturesque with whitewashed villas adorned with colourful flowers. Local suppliers offer their produce at markets held near the fishermens village. The atmospheric labyrinth of cobbled streets is lined with unique boutiques selling leather goods and jewellery.

THE REGION

The mellow island of Menorca drums to a slower beat than siblings Mallorca and Ibiza, and therefore perfect if you’re looking for a holiday of rest and relaxation. The easternmost Balearic Island is lined by some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean: long swathes of powder-fine sand give way to rocky calas (bays) lapped by pale blue waters.

While you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Menorca you may well want to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Club Sant Jaime is a waterpark open to all with water chutes, various pools including a baby pool and bars and cafes. Aquapark Los Delfines is another water park with wet and dry fun.

Children also enjoy horse riding in Menorca. The ancient bridle path follows the coastline for 185km around the island. There are shorter routes suitable for young children. The Son Angel Riding Stables offers riding experiences for children as young as four years old and five day excursions for more experienced riders. Many of the riding stables on the island offer short pony rides for children.
