Location
About the surrounding area of Villa EstradaLocated within the rural Pontevedra, Villa Estrada enjoys a secluded and tranquil location, while the bustling town of A Estrada is a mere five-minute drive away. This villa is slightly secluded, so when you need to pop to the shops or go out for a meal, A Estrada is the place to be! Located about 25 miles away from Santiago de Compostela, A Estrada has historical landmarks, lovely cafes, family-friendly restaurants and child-friendly activities. The nearest airport is Santiago de Compostela Airport, 40 miles from Villa Estrada.
Guests can take a day trip to the Galician capital of Santiago de Compostela and stop off on the way at The Fervenza do Toxa, one of the highest waterfalls in Spain. Surrounded by a lush forest of oak, chestnut, birch and other native species that form a unique landscape that captivates the visitor. The Historic Centre of Santiago de Compostela has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which considers it one of the most beautiful urban areas in the world. There are many reasons to visit this city: history, nature, leisure, and gastronomy are some of the things that tourists can enjoy. Visit the famous cathedral, Saint Sign of Santiago, and get lost in the narrow streets and squares that make up its historic quarter with centuries of history and majestic buildings, many of them from medieval times.
Guests can also take a trip to El Pazo de Oca, one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. Other must-see cities like Vilanova de Cerveira and Caminha are close by, too. You could also make tracks for Vigo, Porto or Tui. The latter is a Romanesque and gothic village that is steeped in history. Take in the cathedral and churches there before heading to the mountain of Aloia nearby. If you climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with views of the Vigo estuary and the Louro valley below.
Galicia is a hidden gem and still remains largely off the typical tourist trail, making it an ideal destination for an authentic Spanish retreat.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesIf you’re planning a family holiday, Villa Estrada is ideal. The private pool, spacious gardens and fantastic facilities will entertain children for hours. The villa comes with bicycles, meaning guests can take an evening ride around the quiet local area, taking in the mountain views and discovering hidden trails.
If guests are seeking a change of scenery, take a leisurely trip down to the bustling and family-friendly town of Estrada. If guests want to venture a little further afield, the city of Santiago is a fantastic day out for children, and the Fervenza do Toxa is also well worth a visit. Santiago is a great place to take kids; the Santiago de Compostela tourist train offers families with children a fun way to see the main sights in a short period of time or to simply take a break and enjoy the views while you get off your feet.
The Museum of the Galician People is an interesting and interactive way to learn about the history of the local people and their culture. Kids love interactive and visual learning, and this museum is a perfect activity for the whole family. Adults can stimulate their minds while the kids have fun interacting with the various hands-on exhibits.
Santiago de Compostela has a number of well-maintained parks that are great fun for little kids. Nearly every green area houses a kids’ playground, some of which have been designed by leading architects, such as this one in The Metropolitan Park near the zoo. The Mirador Parque da Alameda is a beautiful park with excellent views of the city. Kids can feed the swans, run around a playground or attempt a workout on the public exercise equipment. It's right next to the old part of town, so you can use it to take a break any time of day (shady trees are plentiful).

We had a fantastic stay at Villa Estrada
We had a fantastic stay at Villa Estrada. The location is beautiful and the family who own the house are genuinely lovely and welcoming. Any questions we had were answered quickly and nothing was too much trouble. The villa itself is fabulous. All en-suite large bedrooms, two terraces and of course the wonderful pool and large gardens. Everything we could have wanted was supplied - from kitchen equipment to pool toys and bikes to explore the countryside. The local town is less than a 10 minute drive and has several supermarkets, bars, cafes and restaurants. We really enjoyed our holiday and hope to return.

Perfect!
Perfect location, property quality and host help. Bread, fish, eggs were all available delivered plus the bonus of a small shop and bar in the hamlet. Centrally located for both the coast and interior exploration if you can pull yourself away from the pool in the huge well-tended garden and fresh vegetables.
