Located in the southern region of Galicia, this charming countryside property enjoys a privileged position, with lovely views across the neighbouring valley and down to the sea. With its vibrant garden and pool and the coast just a few kilometres away, Casa Cangas offers an idyllic place to spend a relaxing break with family and friends.

Surrounded by forests of oak and chestnut trees, the property feels completely secluded, with ample space to spread out and enjoy the peaceful setting. Recently renovated, the traditional house has plenty of character, with exposed stone walls and comfortable furniture throughout. On the ground floor, an L-shaped plan creates an open living space, with a cosy seating area tucked into one corner arranged beside a charming fireplace. Positioned to the front of the room, the dining room enjoys views over the trees, whilst a fully-equipped kitchen can be found to the room’s other end, where a door gives access to a lovely side terrace offering the perfect spot for sitting with a coffee in the morning sun.

A grass lawn wraps around the front of the house, with planted beds of roses and wonderful fruit trees where you can sit with a book beneath their shade. The pool area is on a lower terrace, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim or soak up the sun on one of the loungers nearby. There is also an outdoor shower nearby.

A delightful patio sits to the side of the house, where a barbecue is perfect for hosting, whilst a sheltered outdoor dining table invites you to enjoy meals in the fresh air and take advantage of the warm summer nights, spending long, entertaining evenings with your guests.

The bedrooms can be found on the upper levels, with two doubles and a main bedroom on the first floor. Each features a double bed, and the main bedroom has a lovely balcony where you can wake up and admire the spectacular views over the garden and valley beyond. Accessed by a retractable staircase, the fourth room sits in the attic space, offering a more private space for additional guests or making a great room for older children. The house also has two shared bathrooms and a separate guest toilet.

Located in the heart of the Rías Baixas, Casa Cangas enjoys a privileged position surrounded by natural forests and rolling hills whilst being just moments from Asturia’s best beaches.

Sitting beside the water on the peninsula, the charming village of Cangas del Morrazo is less than a 10-minute drive, where you can spend a relaxing day wandering around the picturesque streets and soaking up the laid-back atmosphere. Traditional fisherman’s houses and local shops dot the old quarter, or head down to the waterfront to sample some of the region's excellent seafood whilst admiring the incredible vista over the bay of Vigo. Bar Taperia is a fun spot on the pier where you can join locals and enjoy the day's catch or try a plate of the delicious Galician octopus.

Known for its beautiful white sand and clear waters, plenty of beaches can be found in the surrounding area. Praia de Rodeira lies just beside the town, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim, whilst Praia de Barra is just a 20-minute drive, where you can find a little taste of paradise. Sheltered from the winds, the long beach is perfect for walking along the shore; alternatively, head to the smaller bay at Praia de Areamilla. Alternatively, from the nearby port of Vigo, you can hop on the ferry to visit the spectacular Cies Islands and spend the afternoon wandering along scenic trails to discover the rich wildlife or stop for a swim at Rodas Beach. Bathe in the turquoise waters or grab a snorkel to discover the abundance of colourful fish and crustaceans beneath the surface.

Just 30 minutes to the north, Pontevedra makes a great day trip. Sitting on the mouth of the Lerez River, the charming city was once an important port during the 16th century and its vibrant streets and winding lanes are filled with maritime heritage. Explore at your own pace and discover the rich history, stopping to admire the distinctive round form of the Church of Peregrina or enjoy a drink in the lively Praza de Ferrería. The covered market is filled with colourful stalls selling local produce where you can sample some of Galicia’s famous tortilla cheese or ‘tartar de Santiago’ or visit one of the nearby neighbourhood tapas bars to enjoy some traditional plates.

For keen walkers, the area is home to three natural parks where plenty of well-marked paths invite you to explore the beautiful landscape, wander beneath shaded forests or discover the scenic inland lakes. Head to the historic village of Covadonga to see the site where the Muslims were first defeated in 722AD and take a more challenging trail up to the Mirador de la Reina to enjoy spectacular views over the valleys and out to the coast.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

With its wonderful outdoor space and pool, Casa Cangas is a great place to spend a break with all the family. Kids can run around the grassy lawn or play hide and seek behind the fruit trees, whilst the outdoor pool offers plenty of fun for everyone. Make the most of the long summer nights and cook up a feast on the barbecue to share outside, or sit beside the fire during the cooler months and enjoy a movie altogether in the cosy living room. A billiards and table football table can also be found in the outhouse, perfect for some amusement in the shade to escape the midday sun.

With plenty of beaches nearby, it is easy to spend the day beside the sea. Praia de Rodeira lies just beside the town of Cangas del Morrazo, and its blue flag status and proximity to several amenities make it a popular spot for families. The wilder Praia de Barra is just 20 minutes along the coast, where you can enjoy long walks along the white sand or take a refreshing dip in the shallow water. Alternatively, head to the nearby town of Vigo, where you can hop on a ferry and travel across the Cies Islands. Wander the trails to discover the wonderful natural reserve and follow the route up to the lighthouse, or head to Rodas beach, where you can snorkel in the water and spot an array of crustaceans and colourful fish or enjoy a picnic on the sand.
