Perched on the sunlit slopes of Le Crêt, a charming hamlet in Val d’Isère framed by dramatic alpine peaks, Chalet Barbara is a stylish mountain retreat just a short walk from the centre of town and close to La Daille. Formerly a traditional farmhouse, it has been transformed into an elegant chalet sleeping up to ten guests in comfort and style.
Blending Savoyard character with modern sophistication, Chalet Barbara features solid oak floors, warm stone fireplaces, and refined soft furnishings throughout. The heart of the property is its open-plan living space, where oversized sofas and designer armchairs surround a crackling fire, offering an ideal spot for après-ski drinks or relaxed afternoons. Glass doors open onto a spacious terrace, while the adjacent kitchen comes fully equipped with a range cooker, high-end appliances, and a Nespresso machine.
Downstairs, the master suite offers a romantic retreat with a king-size bed, a private fireplace, a walk-in wardrobe, and a striking ensuite with a freestanding bath and draped four-poster detail. Also on this level is a cinema room, decorated in rich tones and furnished with a plush corner sofa, which can convert into an additional sleeping space for two guests. Just outside, the outdoor hot tub invites guests to soak tired limbs while taking in panoramic views across the valley.
Three further bedrooms are located upstairs, including one with a double bed and two with twin beds, each beautifully styled with high-quality linens and thoughtful touches. All bedrooms feature private ensuite bathrooms with either walk-in showers or deep tubs.
The chalet also includes a ski and boot room, and parking for two vehicles including a private garage. The heart of Val d’Isère, with its historic charm, boutiques, lively bars, and access to the Solaise and Bellevarde lifts, is just fifteen minutes away on foot. With access to the vast Espace Killy ski area, this is a superb base for exploring one of Europe’s finest alpine regions.

Location
About the surrounding area of Chalet BarbaraVal d’Isère is a picturesque Savoyard resort set on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, surrounded by spectacular Alpine scenery. The historic centre is full of charm, with its 17th-century church, boutique shops, inviting bars, and excellent restaurants. Beyond the bustling high street, smaller hamlets such as Le Crêt and Le Joseray offer a more peaceful setting.
Linked with Tignes to form the vast Espace Killy, Val d’Isère provides access to over 300 kilometres of pistes and 99 lifts, alongside glacier skiing on the Grande Motte. Its high-altitude setting between 1850 metres and 3400 metres guarantees outstanding snow conditions, with the season often running until early May. From challenging black runs like the Face de Bellevarde to beginner-friendly slopes and family areas such as Valkids and Valpark, the resort caters to every level of skier.
Guests benefit from a private shuttle service providing morning and afternoon transport to and from the slopes, operating daily in the mornings between 8:30am and 10:00am, and again in the afternoons between 4:00pm and 6:00pm offering convenient and flexible access to the pistes.
Val d’Isère is also renowned for its vibrant après-ski scene, with La Folie Douce a notable highlight. For non-skiers, the resort offers a range of activities including luxurious spas, a modern leisure centre, and lift access for mountain lunches and stunning panoramic views. During the summer months, the area transforms into a paradise for hikers and cyclists, with direct trails into the breathtaking Vanoise National Park.

The Resort
Val d’Isere is the oldest of the French ski resorts and a gleaming icon at the end of the valley where the residential town lies. Surrounded by what is arguably some of the most beautiful mountain landscape in the world, the chalet village is centred around a charming baroque church. It’s a lovely place for wandering, taking in the cosy atmosphere and spending quality time with your favourite people.
Val d’Isere is composed of three skiing sections. These are La Daille, Val d’Isere centre and Le Fornet, all of which are linked by a free shuttle service. Alongside Tignes, the resort is part of a wider ski area known as Espace Killy, and a lift pass will get you access to its entirety. Ski season in both resorts stretches as long as May.
Thanks to its high altitude, Val d’Isere is probably your most snow sure option for skiing in the French Alps. The village rests at 1850 metres and its peak on top of the La Grande Motte glacier is 3456 metres high. Sixty per cent of the resort’s pistes are set above 2200 metres, meaning that the skiing is consistently good but on rare occasions, bad weather can cause the slopes to close. It’s also important to keep in mind that Val d’Isere isn’t the best choice if you’re just finding your feet on the snow, and beginners may well find themselves challenged. On the flipside, Val d’Isere is one of the top choices for experienced skiers and snowboarders, with plenty of challenging black runs (such as the iconic Face the Bellevarde, where the 1992 Olympic men’s downhill was run).
And to go with some of the most exciting and picturesque skiing in France, down in the village you’ll find some amazing bars and restaurants. What better way to celebrate conquering that tricky black run than by indulging in some equally entertaining après-ski? On the mountain itself, you can start your evening with DJ’s and live music at La Folie Douce until the lifts close and then work your way into town.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChalet Barbara is a superb choice for a family ski holiday, offering four beautiful, comfortable bedrooms and a cinema room that doubles as an extra sleeping space. After a day on the slopes, children can enjoy a movie while adults unwind in the inviting main living area.
Val d’Isère is an outstanding resort for families, known for its excellent snowfall, varied terrain, and welcoming atmosphere. It features three main beginner areas, a range of ski schools, and private instructors who ensure learning is both fun and confidence-boosting. At the base of the resort, free lifts such as the ‘Le Village’ chairlift and ‘La Savonette’ button lift provide easy access for young skiers without the need for a ski pass. Higher up, the Solaise beginner zone offers two magic carpets ideal for early lessons.
The resort's Val Kids programme introduces children to mountain life through four themed zones, including a mini ski-cross course, a fun piste with games, a toboggan run, and an educational playground. Families can also benefit from good-value ski passes tailored to their needs.
Beyond skiing, Val d’Isère offers an array of activities including sledging, snowball fights, husky rides, Snake Gliss (linked sledges for children aged four and up), Yooner sledges for those six and older, and Airboard bodyboarding for children aged nine and over.
Throughout the season, the resort hosts enchanting pedestrian evenings featuring illuminations, live music, snow sculptures, and light shows, complemented by hot chocolate and mulled wine. It also holds exciting giant slalom races on the Savonette slopes.
Val d’Isère’s excellent sports centre adds even more entertainment, with an ice rink, swimming pools, tennis courts, a climbing wall, and electric snowmobiles on a special track for children aged five to twelve.
