Gorgeous Villa Castelo is just the ticket for holidaymakers in need of sun, sea and silence in the breathtaking Portuguese countryside. Step into a traditional Portuguese farmhouse that has been lovingly cared for and truly feels like a home away from home.

When you arrive, you’ll see that the farmhouse is more than just for show as the grounds are still an active farm with rows upon rows of succulent strawberry plants and more. Ample parking is available at the property should your party require more than one car during your visit.

During your stay, you’re welcome to explore the grounds surrounding Villa Castelo, and arrangements can be made for show cooking and private chef services using fresh produce from the gardens.

On entry to Villa Castelo, you’re greeted with cosy, welcoming decor that certainly feels more ‘home’ than ‘hotel’. Your main living space is open plan, containing a snug living room with two large sofas and a TV that backs onto your dining area. A long dining table takes centre stage in the heart of the room, adjacent to a simple but fully-equipped kitchen.
The communal spaces truly feel like a cosy family home where you can rest, relax and leave your cares behind for a few days with your nearest and dearest.

For sleeping, three bedrooms are spread across three levels, each decorated in a mix of contemporary and traditional stylings. On the ground floor is one bedroom with a double bed and a private en-suite with a walk-in shower. Upstairs, you’ll find two extra bedrooms with double beds. A separate shared bathroom is located on the ground floor with a walk-in shower.

Outside, the garden has an additional outdoor dining space located beneath a covered terrace, perfect for meals in the sun with your friends and family, as well as a shaded seating area beside the pool. Your pool is a small splash pool, ideal for sitting in and cooling down from the heat.

Part of Villa Castelo’s charm is its tranquil location. Tucked far away from any distractions, Villa Castelo sits on its own in a section of idyllic Portuguese countryside with nothing for miles around.

To get to Villa Castelo, you’ll definitely need a car, but its proximity to Lisbon makes access to the property straightforward and easy. The nearest airport to Villa Castelo is in Lisbon, which is about an hour’s drive away.

Although your villa is quite remote, you’re never too far from a beach. While rocky cliffside beaches are the closest to Villa Castelo in terms of proximity, a mile-long stretch of golden sand awaits you just 20 minutes away to the north. Starting from Praia da Pipa, you can work your way along the coast and a network of pristine beaches.

There’s very little to see or do in the immediate vicinity of Villa Castelo, so you’ll need to head further afield for things like groceries, medicine and socialising. Luckily, the coastal town of Sesimbra is just 20 minutes away in a car. Here you’ll find more beaches as well as amenities like pharmacies and grocery stores for your essentials. In town, you’ll also be able to visit local shops, bars and restaurants.

Just an hour north of Villa Castelo is Lisbon itself, the capital of Portugal, which you should definitely take the time to visit while you’re nearby.

THE REGION

Set on a curving turquoise bay just 40 km south of Lisbon, Sesimbra is both an attractive fishing town and a popular tourist resort within easy reach of the capital. Sesimbra is one of the finest beach resorts in Portugal. It is adored by the Portuguese who flock to the region for their holidays, drawn by the pristine beached, relaxed atmosphere and outstanding seafood restaurants.

Near Sesimbra, there are the beaches of the Arrábida Natural Park, which are considered among the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. The most famous one is Praia do Figueirinha, a long sandy shore kissed by calm and crystalline waters.

The outstanding beaches and tourist attractions make Sesimbra an enjoyable family holiday. Around the region, there is much to visit, like Cabo Espichel headland or a scenic drive through the Arrabida hills and a visit to the paradise beaches of the Portinho de Arrabida.

ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas on Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
