Located in the town of Aroeira, south of Lisbon and close to the Costa da Caparica coastline sits this modern three-bedroom villa. Distributed over two floors, this home is a welcoming space with contemporary décor, brilliant white walls, and bold artefacts that demand attention.

The breezy, open-plan living area is all modernity, coolness and space, and during the day, you’ll want to slide open the huge glass doors and let a warm breeze waft in. Take it easy in the lounge, with its stylish sofa and chairs, watch a film on the TV, or enjoy a sociable meal at the table that seats six people. But when the weather’s good, you’ll probably want to step outside and eat at the table and chairs overlooking the inviting swimming pool. Off from the living area is a sleek kitchen kitted out with every modern appliance you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including a microwave, coffee machine and dishwasher, and there’s also a small breakfast table where you can enjoy a casual bite-to-eat.

From the ground floor, a floating staircase sweeps up to the first floor, where you’ll find three light and airy bedrooms featuring double beds. Each room also has its own en suite bathroom. Back on the ground floor, step outside and plunge straight into the pool or bask in the sun on a garden lounger. But when mealtimes beckon, gather everyone together, throw some fresh fish on the barbeque and eat al fresco at the shady table.

The villa is ideally located for those who want to be close to both local amenities and the sea. It is within walking distance to cafes, restaurants and a supermarket and is a 5-minute drive to Aroeira golf course and Fonte da Telha beach.

Casa Sena is located on a residential street in Aroeira and is within walking distance of the town itself with its attractive restaurants, bars and shops. The property is also just a 5-minute drive away from the Lisbon coast with its long stretches of golden, sandy beaches and chilly Atlantic waters. Fonte da Telha beach is a 5-minutes drive from the property and is a good spot for families with its soft sand and crystal clear waters. However, the waters are cold, so you’ll need to bring a wetsuit. A constant sea breeze also makes it an ideal spot for surfing and kitesurfing, and you can hire a board at the surf rental stores or book a lesson at the kitesurfing school.

After a day of activity, be sure to enjoy some grilled fish at one of the many beachside restaurants. Surrounding the beach are pine and eucalyptus trees and the Arriba Fossil Nature Reserve. There are paths through the reserve so walkers can explore the foliage, wildlife and stunning views. The more energetic can jump on the hiking trail that stretches for 7km from Fonte da Telha beach along the coastline to Lagoa de Albufeira. Lagoa de Albufeira is a freshwater lagoon, and here young children can safely splash in the shallow, warm water while birdwatchers can spend time spotting gulls, egrets and osprey in the nearby marshes. Golf enthusiasts can also enjoy practising their handicap on two championship courses. Just a 5-minutes drive away, both courses are set in delightful pine forests and offer 18 holes.

History lovers can also spend time exploring the Convent dos Capuchos, a 16th-century monastery perched on the cliffs above the town of Costa da Caparica. Just a 10-minutes drive away; it also offers glorious views over the whole region. Also worth a visit is the nearby Solar dos Zagallos, an 18th-century mansion and cultural centre with beautiful gardens. But for something a little different, head further afield to Cabo Espichel (40 minutes), a vertiginous cape where you can trace the footprints of dinosaurs.

THE REGION

Only 25 km from Lisbon, located in a protected pine woodland and close to the coastal town of Caparica, Aroeira is a unique estate comprising two golf courses. Aroeira offers golfers the perfect combination of a championship course set amidst exuberant natural surroundings.

The closest beach from Aroeira is Fonte de Telha. It is a pretty good spot for Surfers, and you will also find several choices of beach bars and restaurants to go to. The beach also offers free showers located right at the entrance near the main path in front of the parking spaces and the mini market.​

Casa Sena is a contemporary home, and children will love the open-plan living space. Although the interior is simple, there are homely features, including a TV and plenty of soft furnishings. Children will also love the generously sized bedrooms featuring en-suite bathrooms. Outside, kids can spend the day splashing in the swimming pool, relaxing on the comfy garden furniture or playing on the lawn. A shady terrace also offers respite after a day’s activity and is the perfect spot for an alfresco meal.

For a day at the beach, pack the wetsuits and head to Fonte da Telha beach. Its soft sand makes it ideal for the whole family, while the near-constant sea breeze means it’s the ideal spot for surfing and kitesurfing. There are plenty of nearby hiking trails too, and the whole family can enjoy a walk through the surrounding pine-clad forests, discovering wildlife along the way and soaking up the magnificent sea views. Alternatively, drive 30 minutes south to Lagoa de Albufeira, a freshwater lagoon. Here young children can splash safely in the warm water or play in the sand dunes.  

For further entertainment, Lisbon Oceanarium is a 30-minute drive north. This fantastic aquarium is spread over two floors, and children will love viewing the marine species and deep-sea creatures, including sharks, stingrays and colourful tropical fish. While here, be sure to also visit Lisbon Zoo. Kids can enjoy dolphin, and sea lion shows while the more adventurous can explore the reptile and snake house. While in Lisbon, be sure to view the city from a colourful tram or head to Parque das Nacoes and fly over the city in a cable car. Parque das Nacoes is also home to the Pavilion of Knowledge, an interactive science and technology museum packed with activities, exhibitions and an outdoor play area.
