Recently restored to its former glory, Apartment Sofia is housed in a former fifteenth century Palazzo, facing the Grand Canal, between the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square, in the romantic city of historic Venice, on Italy’s northeast coast. This masterpiece of Venetian architecture is home to four superb apartments which can be rented together as one house.
Apartment Sofia has four spacious ensuite bedrooms, and can accommodate up to eight guests, ideal for a large family or friends’ get together. The property has its own boat jetty for direct water arrival and collection, a monumental entrance, a stunning shared communal hall, and a private elevator to take you to your quarters. This luxury two hundred and forty square metre, one storey apartment, is located on the third floor of this beautiful building. The apartment enjoys a three-sided aspect, which overlooks the iconic Grand Canal, and the famous Rialto Bridge. The adjacent two-bedroom apartment can be connected and rented as one large holiday home.
Apartment Sofia has been painstakingly restored to its original grandeur, with delicate hand painted trompe l’oeil ceilings, wooden beams, masses of Italian marble, designer furniture, some seriously funky lighting, and newly installed state of the art kitchen, and bathrooms. For your comfort and entertainment, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi is included throughout.
Enter the property by the very impressive communal hall and take the internal elevator to the third floor, where you will find Apartment Sofia. The door opens onto a gracious hall, which is home to a contemporary living space, with a hand-painted wood beamed ceiling. The seating area has oversized leather sofas dressed with coloured Fortuny cushions, a bespoke cabinet that holds a flat screen television, and stylish glass coffee tables. The adjacent dining space has a designer table and eight upholstered chairs, with views over the Grand Canal, perfect for some impressive entertaining.
A super-size fully fitted kitchen with a view, has all the appliances you will need to cater for your holiday, including that must-have morning coffee maker, and an informal dining set for eight. A handy guest loo and laundry room complete the living quarters. Four luxury double ensuite bedrooms lead off from the hallway. These beautifully appointed blue and brown bedrooms are dressed in the finest Italian bed linens, have floor to ceiling windows with billowing white curtains, and spectacular Venetian views. All the bedrooms have their own exquisite ensuite modern marble bathroom, with walk-in showers, hand basins, bidets, and WCs.

About the surrounding area of Apartment SofiaApartment Sofia is one of four stunning residences in what was originally a magnificent sixteenth century Venetian family home. The apartment is ideally located on the Grand Canal in the heart of Venice, betwixt and between the Rialto Bridge, and St Mark’s Square. The property has its own water taxi boat jetty, perfect for picking you up for a day’s sightseeing, and dropping you off after an evening out. The international Marco Polo airport is a thirty-minute private water taxi journey away, or seventy-five minutes by the public vaporetto.
The apartment is perfectly positioned within walking distance of most of the major sights of Venice, and one of the joys of a holiday here, is walking over many of the four hundred bridges, and some of one hundred and eighteen canals, as the architecture reveals the city’s four-hundred-year history. Take a trip down the Grand Canal to the impressive St Mark’s Square, and the eleventh century Basilica, where mass is still held today. Visit the Byzantine Doge’s Palace, climb the clocktower, and cross the Bridge of Sighs. On the other side of the square is the Correr Museum, highlighting the history of Venice in its royal rooms and library. Take time out to stroll around the square, window shop in the jewellery stores, before sitting down for tea in Florian’s, whilst the orchestra plays your favourite tunes. Cross the canal to the Napoleonic Accademia Gallery to view classical Venetian art, and the nearby seventeenth century Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, with its iconic cupola and twelve paintings by Titian. Make time to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, an homage to twentieth century modern art, housed in her original palazzo home.
Take an island tour to see the glassblowers at work on Murano, the colourful houses and lacemakers on Burano, and the seventh century cathedral on Torcello, with its Byzantine art. Cross the sea to the Lido, famous for its grand hotels, long sandy beaches, and for those who like to chance their luck, there’s a casino too. Venice is a food lovers paradise, sample the local dish of Baccala Mantecato, a salted cod dish, best served with a chilled white wine. The apartment is near to the famous Rialto Bridge and its food markets, mongering fresh fruit and vegetables.
A walk to St Mark’s Square will take you through streets selling the very best quality hand crafted leather goods, silk scarves, and cashmere sweaters, not to mention the designer dress shops with brand labels you’ll want to buy. For the romantics, get into a gondola and cruise the canals, or simply take one, to cross the water from one side to the other. In the evening enjoy a stroll to Harry’s Bar for a Bellini, before a night at the opera at the Fenice Theatre, then dine in a local restaurant, serving traditional Venetian dishes overlooking the Grand Canal, under a Tiepolo blue sky. If you are lucky enough to be there during the Carnival, make sure you wear a mysterious mask, and join in the fun and frolics of this fabulous festival.

Get off at St Mark’s Square, and visit the Doge’s Palace, where they can’t fail to be impressed by the Golden Staircase to the fourteenth century Great Hall, and the twenty two metre painting by Titian. Cross the Bridge of Sighs and explore the dark dungeons where the Dukes had their prisons. Play a game of Hunt the Winged Lion, the symbol of the city, and to be found on buildings all over Venice. Go for a gondola ride, and get off at Zattere, where they can enjoy an ice cream at the famous Gelateria Nico. Take a picnic to the Giardini Pubblica, where there is a children’s playground and a grotto. Shop for masks for carnival time, or your kids can make their own at Ca’ Macaria. Take a trip to Murano, where theycan watch the glass blowers make incredible pieces they’ll want to take home.
Cross the sea to the Lido, famous for its sandy beaches, where even out of season they can build castles and swim in the sea. Go out of town to Villa Pisani, travel down the Brenta Canal that connects Venice to Padua, where they can lose themselves in the amazing maze and the double staircase to the top of the tower.
