Sitting amidst the forests and woodlands of the Umbrian countryside, close to the Tuscan border, Poet’s House is ideally situated for a getaway in central Italy.
This home is a truly unique place to stay; constructed between 1500 and 1707, it was once a small settlement with a chapel, a number of houses and a lookout tower surrounded by arable land. In recent years this former hamlet has been converted into 6 connected dwellings which can sleep up to 30 guests in comfort.
As you approach the property through lush fields you will notice the series of beautiful houses which are built along the side of a little cobbled road looking out over breath-taking vistas.
This collection of villas will be rented exclusively by your party, making it the perfect place for a large family break, or a trip with a few different groups of friends. Each individual home varies in size; there is a villa which sleeps 8 guests, three villas which sleep 6 guests and 2 villas which sleep 2 guests but also have additional sofa beds. This means a number of groups can travel together but have their own privacy when needed.
All of the villas have been lovingly decorated to honour the long history of the buildings and yet they remain light, airy and spacious. Indoors you will find antique furnishings, high quality linens, local materials and open-fireplaces. The villas also have fully-fitted kitchens, Wi-Fi, smart TVs and some have their own terraces or patios.
The outdoor space is shared between the 6 homes and with 10 acres of manicured grounds, there is plenty of room for everyone. Whether you wish to dine al-fresco, relax on the lawns with a good book or take a dip in the inviting swimming pool, the gardens are a wonderful feature and you are sure to spend lots of time out there.
Although the house is in a rural location, the nearest shop, bar and bakery are under a 10-minute drive away and there are many more amenities in the town of Umbertide which is a mere 8km from the villas. Umbertide is a historic town and is a lovely place to walk around; you can visit ancient churches, a museum, castle and art gallery as well as many shops and eateries. There are also a number of restaurants dotted around the countryside which surround Poet’s House if you wish to have a meal with a view!
Another place to visit nearby is Montone which is 8km in the opposite direction. This quaint medieval village still sits inside its original walls and is packed with notable architecture. Make sure to visit the Gothic church and municipal museum while you are there and why not sip your afternoon coffee at a street side café with views over the valley below.
There are plenty more places to visit in this gorgeous and diverse area such as the Antognolla Golf Resort (23km away) the city of Perugia (46km away) and Lake Trasimeno (35km away). The home owners are also happy to arrange trips to nearby vineyards and other excursions.
What you should know…
- Due to the rural location of the villas, it is recommended that you bring cars to visit nearby towns in Umbria and Tuscany.
- Some of the charming villas have a number of staircases so may not be suitable for some guests, though others have bedrooms on the ground floor.
- Please note that 4 additional guests can be accommodated on sofa beds, please enquire for more details.
- Please note the property is made of 6 villas plus a church.
- There is a domestic use of BBQ's, one for each villa.
- The general manager of the villa will assist guests from arrival to departure.

The 6 stunning homes are situated amongst forests and rolling fields, yet shops and nearby towns are easily reached.
Sitting in the vast gardens overlooking the surrounding countryside, you will be able to truly unwind in this serene, rural location. However, you are not cut off from amenities here and if you need to pop to a shop or pick up something for breakfast then there is a bar, shop and bakery just 2.5km away from the villa.
There are many villages and towns dotted around this area and one of the closest is Umbertide. 8km away from the home, this historic town has been here for over 2000 years so has a wealth of preserved buildings and sites to see such as archaeological remains, museums, a fortress, castle and the stunning Church of Santa Maria della Pietà, which contains 15th-century frescoes. The town also has a wide range of shops and restaurants, while here you could pick up some of the local ceramics which the area is known for.
Also 8km away is Montone which is a pretty walled village; a lovely place to stop at a café as you can overlook the oil-painting- like landscape as you enjoy your lunch. It would be a shame to visit Umbria without making a trip to its capital Perugia which is 46km away and well worth the drive. This picturesque city looks as though it has remained unchanged for centuries and is a pleasure to wander around. Starting at the main square the Piazza IV Novembre you can work your way through the maze-like backstreets to find artisan shops, charming restaurants and countless cultural attractions. A must-see is the Palazzo dei Priori which is a staggering 13th century palace. If you are here in July, then Perugia hosts a world famous Jazz festival during this time.

Once a historic hamlet, Poet’s House can be transformed into the most romantic Umbrian wedding venue set in stunning surroundings in the green heart of Italy, close to the Tuscany border.
Dating back to the 16th century, this beautiful venue even has its own chapel alongside an enchanting piazzetta where friends and family can gather to celebrate feasting on authentic Umbrian fare with wines from the nearby ‘Strada del Vino’.

Wedding Reception
A reception feast can be set up on the hamlet’s square/courtyard (piazzetta) with space for 35 to 40 guests. There is also space by the swimming pool, by the fountain or elsewhere within the grounds.

In the case of bad weather, a main room in one of the houses can be transformed into an indoor venue using 3 tables to host 30 people for a sit-down meal.

The most magical time
We spent four days at the Poet's House with our closest friends and family to celebrate our wedding and it was the most magical time.
The property was beautiful and each house was immaculate, full of tradition but with modern day comforts. We enjoyed every day by the pool, shared meals on the terrace, and walked around the countryside. Gabrielle the 'mayor' was incredible at suggesting local restaurants, towns to visit and providing a catering company for the wedding who themselves were incredible! (all before we had even arrived) Nothing short of 5 stars.
We didn't leave the property at all for the wedding because the place itself is so dreamy, we had a whole hamlet to ourselves! The chapel, everyone having their own 'house' to retreat to, the 'street' to walk down, fountain area for drinks, the fields for photos, the 'square' where we had our long dinner which then became the dancefloor!
I wish we could celebrate like this every year because it truly was the best day and long weekend of our lives. -
The most magical 4 days
The most magical 4 days in this beautiful perfect location for our daughters wedding. The Poets house is presented in a 5 star standard, every house offered comfort and space. There were so many areas on this property for us to get together, the pool, the pizza oven area, the court yard, but if you need a little me time you can find this as well. Gabrielle could not have been more helpful and we have made the most incredible memories in a magical location. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Beautiful XVI century borgo in an excellent location to discover Umbria and Toscana
We had an excellent time at Poet's House! The Borgo is an idyllic location, perfect for a luxury vacation in Umbria, and neighbouring Toscana. We chose this place for a family vacation and reunion, we were a larger group and the Borgo is very flexible to accommodate even groups like us, we stayed in a house for 8 people.
The place is actually as beautiful as in the photos, the accommodations are spacious and thoughtfully decorated. The environment is very calm and allows for quietness as most of the houses have their private space.
The service and attention from Gabriele, the "Mayor of Poet's House" was remarkable. It made a great complement to the great place. We had a complete Concierge service from the moment we arrived, to help us booking a local Chef for an evening, to recommendations with local restaurants and activities like horse riding, and catering to all our needs. Great thanks to Gabrielle!
The pool is big enough, very well taken care of and it is a great amenity for hot days or when returning from a visit in Umbria or Toscana.
The location is great for visiting Umbria, which is a surprisingly rich and interesting region, with so much to see and experience (Perugia, Assisi...), which sometimes is overshadowed by the more well known Toscana. Nearby towns like Montone allow for a magical dining experience, or wine tasting in the Montefalco region. The Trasimeno lake offers some impressive visits to the medieval towns (Castiglione del Lago) and some water sports (standup paddle, kitesurf, boating).
We found the property location is near enough for day trips to many tuscan towns, as arezzo, Cortona, or as north as Firenze.
Overall it is a place and an experience to recommend, we were very pleased and would go again in the future. -
Perfect
Poet's House is perfect. Quiet, relaxing and tucked into the gorgeous Umbrian countryside. There is a feeling of warmth and tranquility. The staff is attentive and charming. You simply must stay here if you are in the area.

Incredible
Incredible views. Incredible place. The House is a great Italian rustic style. The whole team was amazingly responsive to all our needs. A must visit place! Thanks, Gabriele!

Magical and truly poetic!
Poet's House is a fantastic escape from the banality of resorts and the vanity of cities. Against the background of the knightly age it offers all the modern amenities and elegant comfort one could expect from a calm and inspiring vacation. This place is one with nature, up on a green hill overlooking a scenery from each window, best shared with loved ones and friends for memories of a lifetime. You can easily prepare your own food in the fully equipped kitchens, relax at the pool, or share a barbecue with friends. The host Gabrielle has already taken care of everything but if you still need something he delivers it with a smile. We were there for a very special wedding in May, received the service in the chapel and enjoyed drinks and dances on the square then had the dinner with speeches on the terrace, moved inside the main house for more dances and fun and it all felt homey and heavenly at the same time! Simply fill the trunk with Italian food and wine and indulge in the Borgo for as long as you can take a break from reality. This place is unreal. Magical and truly poetic!

The villa itself is stunning
Wedding Weekend at Poet's House
We had our wedding here back in June and we cannot say enough amazing things about the villa and the staff. The villa itself is stunning, everything is incredibly taken care of, every single house was beautifully maintained and clean. Gabriele went above and beyond to ensure our guests were taken care of and that the weekend went smoothly. He helped us navigate florals, grocery shopping, places to eat, and truly was a joy to be around. The weekend wouldn't have been as successful without his help and guidance! We couldn't be happier with our stay at Poet's House and hope to be able to come back soon! If anybody is looking for a relaxing beautiful stay we highly recommend picking Poet's House as your next trip.
Gabriele - thank you so much again!

Heavenly place with all the peace and quiet you could wish for, within a 10-15 min drive there’s an outdoor swimming pool where you can expect crowds of mainly locals, if you like some time off from all the serenity the Poet's House has to offer.
Excellent service and as much as you desire….

Great stay at Poet's House
Our family (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed for 1 week at Poet's House with another famliy/friends of ours, also a family of four, Each family had their own house. Rooms and houses are very well appointed and all facilites are available nearby. We made our own dinner a few nights. Gabriele (The Mayor) organized a bbq for us, We could not thank him enough. He also recommended each day different activities and restaurants, always adapted to our needs. We also visited the Blasi winery which was an eye opener (15 minutes drive). We had a hard time leaving Poet's House. A great experience for us and the kids that we would repeat in a heart beat.
The Umbria province is definetly underated, real authentic Italy is what we found there.
-
A unique marvel in the heart of Italy
Imagine a quiet small village perched on a little hill in the countryside of Umbria: this is Poet's House. Surrounded by wonderful nature, yet close to the major tourist towns of Umbria and Tuscany. And the Mayor will welcome you! We stayed for a long weekend in one of the houses: beautiful, carefully selected interiors with a rustic but comfortable feel; we used the swimming pool and took walks around. We also cooked and used the terrace one night. Lost of great restaurants nearby. It's a unique place and it was hard to leave. We'll be back for sure. Thank you.
