Nestled below Monte Pisano, just 6km from beautiful Lucca, this historic villa enjoys a stunning setting in elegant Italian gardens surrounded by olive groves and pine forests, just a short walk from restaurants and a village.
With the estate dating as far back as the 10th century, you can feel the sense of history around you with its enchanting atmosphere and old-fashioned yet decadent style. Downstairs find the opulent salone with its grand fireplace, an impressive dining room for feasting under the chandeliers as well as a charming billiards room with French doors leading out to the lovely loggia and gardens. Set up romantic al-fresco meals on warm summer evenings surrounded by the ornate gardens with the background sounds of birdsong and trickling fountains.
Upstairs, eleven frescoed guest rooms, each one with air-conditioning and their own en suite bathroom, can be found across the top two floors sleeping up to 22 guests.
Step outside and wander around the picturesque walled gardens, admiring the peaceful water features and century-old trees. Come across the former lemonaia, now an impressive gym, as well as the lovely swimming pool surrounded by old stone walls, hedges, roses and relaxing sun loungers.
Set on a large estate featuring three other villas, guests can use the shared tennis court and hire bikes for local exploring. Make the most of the high-end services on offer such as daily breakfast, freshly prepared meals and on-site concierge to book wine-tastings, guided tours or excursions.
After all, there is so much to see in this alluring part of northern Tuscany. Start off in Lucca, a gorgeous town showcasing some of Italy’s finest medieval and Renaissance architecture, then travel to Pisa and Florence for more spectacular days out.
Other idyllic villages and towns to visit include Collodi, Montecatini Terme, San Miniato and Empoli, or spend the day at the beach with Viareggio within half an hour. There are even more incredible sights along the Ligurian coast heading north towards La Spezia and beyond, with the breathtaking scenery of Cinque Terre around ninety minutes away.
Not to mention the fine walking opportunities around Monte Pisano itself where you can admire spectacular views of this captivating and magnificent region.
What you should know…
- Villa Monte Pisano is part of a large estate featuring four holiday homes including Villa Flavus and San Colombano. Each villa has its own grounds and swimming pool.
- Air-conditioning is available in the bedrooms only.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa Monte Pisano6km south of Lucca, in the picturesque foothills of Monte Pisano, this elegant villa enjoys a fantastic location close to northern Tuscany’s beautiful villages, towns and cities.
A small village is within walking distance, just 2km away, and there are a couple of good restaurants serving regional cuisine even closer.
It’s such a privilege to be so close to the wonderful town of Lucca, a ten-minute drive away. Walk or cycle around its historic walls, discovering picnic spots and play areas, then wander into its splendid centre to marvel at some of Italy’s finest medieval and Renaissance architecture. There are many superb dining opportunities as well as charming cafes, pretty shops and enchanting piazzas – you will want to return again and again to soak up its delightful atmosphere.
Of course, both Pisa (16km) and Florence (84km) are both close by for a day out or two, seeing the sights of both famous cities and visiting galleries, boutiques and yet more excellent restaurants. Lucca train station has departures to Pisa (30 minutes) or Florence (1hr 20 minutes) if you prefer not to drive, or the owners can arrange private drivers and/or guided tours.
Other gems of northern Tuscany include Collodi (24km), the home to the author of Pinocchio, and Vinci (48km), birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, both lovely places to spend time in idyllic surroundings. The spa-town of Montecatini Terme (36km) is another great day out whether visiting one if its inviting spas or exploring boutique shops, all whilst admiring its exquisite architecture. Take the town’s historic funicular up to the hilltop village of Montecatini Alto and be amazed by the stunning views over the spa-town and beyond.
The Tuscan coast is also within easy reach with the popular resorts of Viareggio (30km) and Forte dei Marmi (40km) close by where you will find blue-flagged beaches, lidos and watersports as well as a vibrant summer atmosphere. To appreciate even more striking scenery, drive north towards the Golfo dei Poeti in Liguria, as far as La Spezia (80km), the gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site visited by tourists from across the world.
Lovers of outdoor activities and sport will also not be disappointed. The estate features a shared tennis court/football field that guests can use (with a charge to hire rackets and balls), there is horse-riding within a short drive as well as fishing and watersports along the coast. Bike rental can be arranged by the estate’s owners whilst keen walkers can follow various trails through the Monte Pisano landscapes.
Those yearning for more extreme sports should look out for river rafting, canyoning and kayaking around Garfagnana, around an hour north of Lucca.

Best Suited For: All AgesNorthern Tuscany is simply wonderful for families with children of all ages with historic towns, amazing cities, beautiful countryside and the coast so near.
First of all, you needn’t travel far to play tennis as the estate has a shared tennis court and football field which you can use, just paying to hire rackets and balls. There is also horse-riding within a short drive and lovely family walks close by. The fact that a village and a handful of restaurants are within walking distance will also appeal to families.
Pinocchio Park in Collodi will delight younger guests, alongside the lovely butterfly house next door whilst Sunlight Park near Pisa has all sorts of fun water-based activities. Animal lovers have Pistoia Zoo around forty minutes away or, a little closer, children will be fascinated by the historic funicular in Montecatini Terme.
Find picnic spots and play areas whilst walking or cycling around the city walls in Lucca or head to the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, just 16km away. Florence is also a wonderful city for all ages with family activities in many galleries, the beautiful carousel in Piazza della Repubblica or just simply just the opportunity to enjoy gelato in exquisite surroundings.
Of course, the nearby coast is also a great appeal with the beaches, lidos, restaurants and watersports of Viarregio within 30km.

Wedding Reception
Inside the beautiful villa there is space for up to 70 people for a reception whilst outside further guests can be accommodated.
If you would like to use the main reception room inside Villa Monte Pisano for a disco, then up to 120 guests can dance the evening away.
A marquee can also be hired in the grounds on request if desired.
Wedding Ceremony
There is a small chapel at the gates of Villa Monte Pisano which has room for up to 30-40 guests. Alternatively, ceremonies can be hosted inside the villa (70 people) or in a number of spots across the glorious gardens.
An English-speaking celebrant can be arranged.

Venue Accessibility
There is limited accessibility by public transport, guests may need rideshare or taxis. There is complimentary on-site car parking. There is limited wheelchair access – please enquire for more details.
Where to Stay
22-26 people can stay at Monte Pisano whilst many other guests can reside in one of the two separate villas we feature on the same estate (Villa Flavus for up to 15-19 guests and San Colombano for up to 12 guests), subject to availability and minimum stay restrictions.
The owner’s second estate, around 2.5km away, features Villa Maestosa (14 guests) and Villa Le Fontane (24-26 guests).
Alternatively, there are many hotels and villas in and around Lucca (within a 5-10 minute drive away). The owner has their own transportation company that can be used to drive guests to and from the venue.
Wedding Planning
The owners prefer to use their own wedding planners for the event.
If you wish to use your own then you must request this in advance and permission may be given in some circumstances.
Wedding Suppliers
Services that can be arranged on request include hair-dressing, make-up artists, photographers and film-makers, wedding cakes, flowers, table décor, musicians (harpists, live jazz etc), DJs and children entertainers/nannies.
Any other external suppliers can only be used with permission.
Catering
The owners prefer for clients to use their own experienced caterers (in-house and external suppliers). A number of options are available such as aperitivi, formal sit-down meals, dessert buffets, after dinner fruit tables and more.
If you would like to use your own caterers then this must be requested in advance for approval.
There is no corkage fee if you wish to provide your own wine but again, this is on request only.
Flexibility on Duration
Minimum stay of 7 nights (high season) or 3 nights (low and mid season).
Children
Children are welcome and supervised childcare can be arranged.
Noise Restrictions
Music should be turned off by midnight.
Other Information
The venue has on-site security personnel throughout the wedding.
There are no restrictions on decoration and themes - bring your creative ideas!

Please note that any event rental may be subject to additional charges, venue hire fees and to a higher security deposit, which will be in addition to any published rental rates and fees.

Truly wonderful
Villa Monte Pisano is truly wonderful. We have stayed in other villas in Tuscany and this one (by far) was the best. It is beautifully appointed, big open rooms, gorgeous furnishings, breathtaking grounds/views and a staff that truly worked to meet our every need/request. From the reception at arrival, the owner telling us the villa’s history to our final meal in the main dining area....no detail was missed. You can’t go wrong with Villa Monte Pisano.
