Travel back in time when you stay at the beautiful Baroque Pianoforte Apartment, nestled in the heart of central Rome, the capital city of Italy. This charming eighty-five metre squared, fifth-floor apartment has two double bedrooms. It can comfortably accommodate up to five guests, ideal for a small family holiday or two couples sharing.

Pianoforte Apartment is housed in an original seventeenth-century building steeped in history, popes have spent time there, and it was once a workshop for the Vatican Museum to restore its priceless marble statues. The incredibly detailed hand-painted, wood beam, timbered ceilings have recently been restored to their former glory, and the owner’s passion for art and culture is displayed with original artworks, fascinating ephemera displayed in all the rooms, and antique bookshelves stuffed to bursting.

Pianoforte Apartment lives up to its name, with a baby grand piano in the cosy sitting room with French windows that open onto city-view balconies. Antique rugs from the east are scattered throughout the apartment, sharing their colourful hues on stone floors. The apartment is blessed with a fragrant rooftop garden, populated with tendered plants and shrubs in terracotta pots, whilst the intoxicating scent of orange blossom lingers on the evening air.

Take the elevator to the fifth floor, and enter the light and airy, unique holiday home from home. The sitting room is sumptuous; soft sofas and inviting, deep-cushioned armchairs are grouped around the piano, facing an open fireplace, and all sit under a richly painted, timbered ceiling, whilst seventeenth-century art adorns the wall. The dining room has a six-seater table and chairs sandwiched between two splendid bookcases, the perfect room for some impressive romantic candlelit entertaining. The galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances to cater for your stay, or better still, ask the concierge to arrange a private chef.

There are two exquisitely appointed, charmingly dressed double bedrooms with queen-sized beds. There are two modern bathrooms, one with a bathtub and balcony, the other with a glass-fronted walk-in shower, hand basins, and WCs. Access the gorgeous rooftop garden terrace, where you will find a city view, a soft seating spot with a shady parasol, and a hot spot for meeting for morning coffee. As dusk falls, gather for a sundowner aperitivo, and feast alfresco at the outdoor dining set under a cerulean sky.

Pianoforte Apartment can be found nestled in the ancient centre of Rome, the capital city of Italy. The apartment is sixteen kilometres from Rome's international Ciampino Airport, which can be reached by taxi or direct train. The central Roma Termini train station is a kilometre away, and the nearest underground station is Cavour.

There is something for everyone to enjoy when you holiday in Rome, whether it's history and culture, renaissance art and architecture, music and opera, food and fashion, or simply the joy of sipping a cappuccino in a street side café, the Eternal City has got the lot. Walk in the steps of the Caesars, poets, and philosophers as you stroll down the Via dei Fori Imperiali stone street, and follow the route from the ancient Roman Forum to the amphitheatre of the iconic Colosseum. Everywhere you go, there are ornate churches, rich with decorative icons, don't miss a visit to the nearby Church of Saints Quirico and Giulietta, with its impressive Romanesque Bell Tower.

No visit to Rome is complete without a walk through the Vatican Museum and its magnificent art collection. Look up and admire Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling, then take the double helix staircase to the glory that is the Basilica of St Peter. For some fine art, go to the Borghese Gallery, set in a gorgeous garden, housing an incredible collection of Canova marble sculptures. On the stroll back, stop at Harry's Bar for a Bellini, then walk down the Spanish steps and visit the Romantic poet Keat's house before sampling English muffins at the famous Babington's Tea Rooms, established in 1893.

Saunter down the iconic Via dei Condotti and window shop for fabulous fashion designer brand labels and must-have handcrafted leather handbags. Enjoy the bustling squares of Piazza Barberini and Navona, and marvel at the famous marble masterpiece, the Trevi fountain. See the light at the Pantheon; aim for noon for maximum illumination. Go to the outskirts of the city and across the Old Appian Way to discover the hidden treasures of the catacombs.

If you fancy a day trip out of Rome, the town of Tivoli is just thirty kilometres away, where you can visit Hadrian's Villa and the exquisite Villa D'Este. During the day, dine on freshly made pizza and pasta and homemade ice cream, eat alfresco in one of the many squares, and sit back and watch as the world and the beautiful people pass by. In the evening, take a trip to the foodie heaven of Trastevere, and taste the delights of Italian cooking in one of its traditional tavernas, just like Nonna used to make!

There's so much for your kids to do and see when you vacation in Rome. First stop, take the family to the must-see Colosseum, manned by actors dressed as Roman soldiers, where they can explore the magnificent Flavian amphitheatre, the maze of tunnels which housed the animals, and imprisoned the gladiators.

Older children visiting the Gruppo Storica Roma can learn to be a gladiator, don a tunic and sword, and immerse themselves in the history of ancient Rome.
Take a walk to the Spanish steps, march them down to Keats House and Babington's Tea Rooms, march them back up again to the ornate Renaissance church and admire the stunning views over the city.

Younger ones will love an afternoon at the Techno di Pulcinelia al Gianicolo, an open-air puppet theatre, or the San Carlino, where the puppets and musicians interact with the children. Row a boat or ride a bike through the nearby beautiful Borghese Gardens.

Take a trip to the Bioparco Roma, where you'll find a toy train, a mini zoo, a children's playground, and pony rides through the gardens. Take them on a tour of the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and the beauty of St Peter's Basilica. Marvel at the three-metre hole in the roof of the two-thousand-year-old Pantheon, designed to shine a light on the Emperor at noon on the 21st of April, the date the Roman Empire was founded.

Throw coins in the Trevi Fountain and make a wish. At night, all aboard an Illuminated Rome Tour for Kids, pizza and gelato included. Eat ice cream of every colour, especially the blue bubble-gum flavoured one.
