When you’re not splashing about in the villa’s pool, visit the breathtakingly beautiful Grotta Verde that’s only a ten-minute drive away, a natural pool of water formed inside a cove. The stunning waters have a unique green colour that make it feel like a magical place to swim.
Take a walk through the quaint small town, only a five-minute drive from the villa or take in the untouched, natural landscapes around you as well as the incredibly crystalline sea so near. Swim into the clear waters from the remote rocky coastline or head west to the incredible sandy shores around Baie Verde or south to the mesmerising ‘Le Maldive del Salento’.
Situated on the very bottom of Italy’s ‘heel’ in Salento, this part of Puglia is known for its rocky shorelines as well as long stretches of sandy beaches and far-reaching horizons. The region is also renowned for its olive oil production, the centuries-old olive groves are a delight to see. Puglia’s idyllic white-washed villages and towns and Mediterranean shores make it a popular destination for all.

About the surrounding area of Casale AttaricoIn the Salento region of southern Puglia, Casale Attarico is a short drive from the coastal town of Castro (5km) and within walking distance of a small local town with restaurants, shops and an historic castle. The villa is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and it’s around 2km from the sea where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters from the rocky shore.
One particular highlight of this area is Grotta Verde, around a 10-minute drive away, where you can swim into a natural swimming pool inside a cave, with the light from the outside helping give the water its beautiful green colour that is loved by tourists and locals alike.
Heading west, Marina di Pescoluse is a popular destination for holiday makers, thanks to its bright white sand and crystal blue sea. Dubbed as the Maldives of Italy, this breathtakingly beautiful destination is the ideal place to spend the day. Relax on the sunbeds or admire the different fish by snorkelling in clear waters.
If you fancy heading out for the day, Gallipoli is a vibrant city that’s under an hour drive away. People love its beautiful white stretches of sand just south of the town known as Baia Verde and the lively nightlife around here. Browse through the town’s lovely boutiques and look out for fascinating historical sites such as the ancient Church of Saint Agatha, that sits in the centre of the old town and Castello di Galliopli, the 11th century military fortress nestled in the port. If you would like to learn more about city’s rich history, make your way to its fascinating museum – Museo Civico Emanuele Barba. After a busy day shopping and site-seeing, relax by the harbour and watch the boats pass by.
Other wonderful places to visit include Otranto to the north, Santa Maria di Leuca at the southern most tip and the village of Specchia, known to be one of Italy’s most beautiful villages where you can dine in wonderful restaurants on the piazza or find some local specialities in the many pretty shops.

The local coast is also very near where you can take a picnic with beautiful sea-views, jump into the sea from the rocky shores and snorkel to your hearts content. Other lovely family-friendly beaches include Baia Verde just south of Gallipolo and the famous Marina di Pescolouse, both with white sands and clear shallow waters.
Nothing beats a waterpark on a hot day – and no doubt the kids will agree! The whole family will have a blast at Splash Parco Acquatico (47km), one of the best waterparks in the South of Italy. Its achieved this high status through its winding waterslides, splash parks and its Amazonian-themed waterfall! There are pools to accommodate all ages, so everyone can blow off some steam.

Beautiful villa in the South of Puglia
We absolutely loved Casale Attarico. Paolo was amazing at communicating with us via WhatsApp and made us feel very welcome the whole stay. The villa is on sprawling grounds and the pool was great fun. The kitchen is tight so perhaps best suited for a single cook at a time or those who like to eat out! A highlight for us was having a local cook come one evening so we could try some local cuisine whilst our daughter slept. It was incredible and well-priced. There isn't much to do in the local town so we ended up driving most days - highlights were Lecce, Otranto, and the beaches near Gallipoli. Take plenty of Mossie repellent!
I really rated Oliver's Travels - they are a great example of a small travel company that cares about their customers. Really appreciated the concierge service. -
Beautiful Villa
We had a wonderful time at the Villa in Puglia and although our contact Paulo spoke no English and our Italian was dreadful, we made good use of Google Translate. Paulo was so helpful in showing us around and left us a lovely welcome basket of goodies. The Villa was clean, traditional and utterly beautiful. Oliver's Travels were helpful and were easy to reach to organise the fridge being filled before our arrival. I would say that this villa is more than 1km away from the town - we drove each time. The walk to the beach was beautiful. Local supermarket was wonderful - packed with cheese! The Villa was very comfortable for the three of us, and would house 6 well - 7 might be a squeeze as the sofa bed is in the living room and there are no curtains. We will be returning for sure.
