Casa Bernardino enjoys a great location overlooking the Gulf and Naples, with views out to Mount Vesuvius. You can get even closer to beauty and tradition within minutes, as the heart of Sorrento town just a short walk away. The shore, old town and a variety of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés are all just a few hundred metres away from the villa. You’re also very close to Sorrento’s train station (500m) for reaching other popular spots such as Naples and Pompeii.
Stroll into the town for a day of sightseeing and soaking up Sorrento’s laidback atmosphere. The old town with its network of narrow streets is full of historical and cultural highlights, including Chiesa di San Francesco (400m), a beautiful 14th-century church. There’s also a bell tower, cathedral and monastery to visit. One of the most famous squares, Piazza Tasso (350m), is lined with cafes, so it’s ideal for a lunch break and doing some people watching. You could also head down to one of Sorrento’s marinas and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants on offer.
The shore here (1km) is rocky, so platforms beneath the cliffs give you safe and easy access to the sea. Enjoy swimming in the clear, calm waters and taking in the naturally beautiful surroundings. Sorrento is also a great base for walking and hiking through the Lattari Mountains (17km), which lie close to the Sorrentine peninsula.
A must-visit is Pompeii (27km), where you can visit what was left of the city after the still-active volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted 2,000 years ago. This archaeological site features many well-preserved ruins to discover. You can reach Mount Vesuvius (48km) itself in just over an hour, with dramatic walks and views on offer.
A little further north of Mount Vesuvius is the gastronomic centre that is Naples (49km). Just over an hour’s drive away from the villa is the stunning Amalfi Coast (35km). Take your pick of the many sandy beaches that are perfect for an afternoon spent relaxing by the sea.
