The contemporary Villa Sarakina is tucked away on the lovely Sarakina hillside among the lush trees and olives groves in the village of Pantokratora, close to the famous resort of Laganas on Zakynthos. It is just 5 minutes drive to the beach. With its hillside position, the villa boasts amazing views of the countryside, the valley below and out to the brilliant turquoise sea and Marathonisi Island in the distance. It is a fabulous, calm and tranquil location.
You will immediately relax at Villa Sarakina. Its magical blend of tranquility, calming design and décor and glorious views takes you away from all the stresses of everyday life. With two bedrooms this villa sleeps 4 guests though there is a comfortable sofabed in the living area should you want to add another guest and another sofabed in the attic bedroom.
Villa Sakarina is just minutes away from the buzzy resort of Laganas and only 15 minutes drive from the wonderful Zante Town. Laganas is a lively place with many shops, restaurants, clubs and bars as well as a vast, shimmering beach.
An elegant, calming colour scheme has been used throughout the villa and the open-plan design makes the most of the space. The living, dining and kitchen space is contemporary and has huge glass doors opening to the terrace which makes it incredibly light and airy. The kitchen is modern with attractive tiles.
Upstairs you will find the first double bedroom with a double bed and an immaculate bathroom. Stairs lead up to the attic bedroom with a huge bed which is made up of two singles, a dazzling ensuite shower room and a fabulous balcony.
Villa Sarakina enjoys a large outside garden and terrace with fabulous planting and views. You can take a dip in the lovely private pool or relax on the sun loungers admiring the beautiful countryside scenery. The blend of the mountains, green vegetation, brilliant blue sky and turquoise sea is wonderful. The free-standing barbecue is brilliant for alfresco dining.

Villa Sarakina enjoys such an excellent location. It is a real plus point for the villa. You cannot beat having fabulous views and being amidst centuries-old olive groves and vineyards. Laganas has several mini-markets and plenty of entertainment on offer. There is a good choice of restaurants. It is so lovely to take a delicious meal while overlooking the sea. The main street of Laganas runs along the whole beachfront and continues to the neighbouring resort of Kalamaki to the east.
The beach is delightful with fine, silvery sand and sun loungers and parasols available as well as pedalos and boat trips to catch a glimpse of the protected Caretta turtles swimming around the bay. There are no other watersports allowed on the beach due to the turtles nesting. The sea and coast around Zakynthos is part of the National Marine Park. The rare Caretta turtles lay their eggs in the sands of Gerakas, Dafni, Kalamaki, Marathonisi and especially Sakania, east of Laganas.
The villa is only 8km from the island’s buzzy capital, Zante Town. Most of the houses, shops and buildings are built in traditional Venetian style. They were rebuilt after the destructive earthquake of 1953. Solomos Square is bustling and lined with restaurants and bars and also the Byzantine Museum and Cultural Center.
Zante Town is known for its amazing nightlife. You can enjoy a game of tennis at the Zakynthos Tennis Association. Bochali is 2km from the centre of Zante Town. You will find yourself stopping every few minutes to take panoramic photographs of the pretty harbour, Argassi and the Bay of Laganas. The narrow, charming alleys are lined with old houses and traditional cafes and restaurants. You should try ‘frigania’, a delicious local dessert. A little further up, you will arrive at the castle. Solomos Wines distillery is a great outing where wines can be tasted and bought cheaply. The cellars are beautiful and the wines delicious. There is also olive oil to taste.
One of the Orthodox pilgrimage sites, St Dionysios draws crowds during the year as it houses the relics of the island’s patron saint. The church was built in 1926 with a three-sided basilica and inner arch. It was luckily left untouched by the 1953 earthquake.
Only 37 nautical miles from Zakynthos are the Strofades islets with a 15th century fortified monastery.

Villa Sarakina enjoys a large outdoor garden and terrace and a lovely pool. This is a real plus for a family. The villa is close to fantastic beaches which stretch for miles. Lagunas Beach continues straight into the one at Kalamaki and there are so many more around the island. A very popular beach for children is Shipwreck Beach which gets is name from the wreck of an old merchant vessel called Panagiotis which was wrecked more than 30 years ago. Children can climb aboard and have some fun. The beach can only be reached by boat which adds to the adventure.
At Solomos Square in Zante Town you can hire bikes, toy jeeps and motorcycles for children. There is a fun tourist train to travel around the town. Sarakinado Water Village is a great family attraction just outside Zante Town. The Thrill Tower, Family Tower, Boomerbowl Tower and Extreme Tower slides are thrilling. The lazy river is great fun and there is also crazy golf for your enjoyment.
Tsilivi has a great water park with plenty of rides and slides for all ages next to the Planos Bay Hotel. There is also a lovely beach with shallow water. You will find fish and shells in the water.
There are many boat trips available. You can take a glass bottom boat to spot Caretta turtles swimming around Marathonisi Island. It is sometimes known as ‘Turtle Island’ as there are so many turtles. You will be swimming and snorkeling on the trip too. You can also visit the Keri Caves and secret beach on the rocky side of Turtle Island. If you are in a small enough boat you can go inside the caves and though the arch next to the caves. You can also do all of this by hiring a private boat.
Nana’s Horse Riding Centre in Kalamaki is excellent for rides along the 5km beach to Laganas on horseback or up in the mountains. The centre was founded in 1983 and takes the name of the founder’s daughter. It remains a family run business. You can either take a 1 hour tour or 2 hours. You can even ride in the sea which is a magical experience.
