The fabulous Villa Ambros is a very stylish one bedroom, ground floor apartment for two guests. It boasts a stylish open plan living space with a living area and dining table, a trendy modern kitchen, an immaculate ensuite bathroom and a delightful private garden with a pool and a shaded alfresco dining area. Not only that, the apartment is one of six brand new properties that share a well-equipped gym and an excellent alfresco barbecue and wood oven kitchen and dining area. There is also a shared laundry facility with washing machines and dryers. It is a great concept that offers privacy to guests yet with the addition of a few added extras. Like the other five properties, Villa Ambros offers unique, minimalist and simplistic Scandinavian architecture and design with Greek detailing.

Along with the other five properties, Villa Ambros sits in the heart of the ancient village of lalysos on the north western coast of Rhodes. Lalysos is conveniently just twenty minutes drive from the Old Town of Rhodes and only fifteen minutes from the airport. Lalysos enjoys plenty of shops and bars and a fabulous pebble and shingle beach which is only five minutes walk from the apartment. The village is also known as Trianda. Lalysos is a village oozing Greek charm and boasting ancient ruins that are found in its pine covered hills. Its beach is very popular with windsurfers who enjoy the breeze and waves. Lalysos’ neighbour, Ixia, is a popular resort which boasts a lovely seaside promenade lined with palms, bars, cafes and restaurants. Guests staying at Villa Ambros enjoy visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town of Rhodes, especially in the evenings for its brilliant nightlife. The Old Town enjoys charming narrow streets, gorgeous historic buildings and a wonderful dining scene. Guests also enjoy visits to the Lindos Acropolis, the island’s most exquisite archaeological site and the heavenly sandy beaches in the south of the island.

Villa Ambros enjoys a lovely flow between its spaces with giant sliding doors separating them. Its bedroom is a dreamy haven with a kingsize bed beautifully dressed in in crisp cottons and lovely soft furnishings. Modern artwork decorates the neutral walls in this chic apartment. The ensuite bathroom is contemporary and spacious with a beautifully tiled walk-in shower.

You can cook delicious feasts in your smart, sleek, fully equipped kitchen with its excellent appliances. You can dine alfresco or indoors on your modern table and chairs. The sofa and chairs in the living area are adorned with colourful scatter cushions that match the modern artwork on the walls. You can watch the wall-mounted Smart television or enjoying the delightful garden views. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors drown the living space in natural light and give access to the garden and pool.

Your outside space boasts a small private pool, sun loungers and shaded alfresco dining under a pergola. It is a lovely tranquil area, very romantic and perfect for lazing with your holiday books and enjoying the sunshine. Guests are welcome to use the shared alfresco kitchen with its barbecue and wood oven and delightful dining area.

Villa Ambros is perfect for couples. You could take the apartment with a baby but if you are traveling with a family you might want to look at Villa Alekos, Villa Alcides or Villa Aedos.

The ancient village of lalysos sits quietly on the north western coast of Rhodes, just six miles from the bustling, tourist mecca, Rhodes Town and next door to Ixia. Lalysos is frequently called Trianda. It’s beach is especially popular with windsurfers thanks to its ever-present sea breeze. There are several surf schools if you want to learn a new sport or improve your skills. Along with Lindos and Kamiros, Lalysos is one of the oldest villages in Rhodes. Ancient lalysos was located strategically on the top of the fortified Filerimos Hill. The remains of a Minoan settlement have been found, together with Mycenaean cemeteries on the surrounding hills. There are remains from the Archaic and Byzantine periods. The Temple of Athena Polias which was built in the second and third centuries BC stood in the spot where an even older temple stood. In the 15th century a medieval monastery and church were built on the site. Later, the Italians converted the monastery into a church.

Rhodes Town is very close by with Ixia in between. Rhodes’ capital is appealing to foodies, history buffs, shoppers and those that love visiting museums and beautiful architecture. Its Turkish quarter is home to some excellent shops and the magnificent Street of Knights, where the Crusaders made home in the Middle Ages, should not be missed. The characterful Old Town is an intricate warren of busy commercial streets and delightful, quiet alleys laden with Byzantine and Gothic churches, medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs and many boutique shops and restaurants. The highlights of the Old Town include the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum housed in the Gothic building of the Great Hospital of the Knights, the Street of Knights and some of the mosques. If you are lucky, you may get to see locals celebrating their medieval past, dressed as knights, fire jugglers and jesters and stalls serving up banquet style feasts.

Ixia is a busy tourist resort which clings to the curl of the Aegean island’s coastline with a lengthy pebble beach and seafront pavements. The Akramitis Mountains are a wonderful backdrop. The two kilometre beach looks towards the Turkish mainland and is popular for windsurfing, parasailing and yachting. There are plenty of loungers, parasols and beach bars. The scenic promenade is lined with bars, tavernas and a few bakeries and shops.

Koskinou is famous for its unique mosaic of colours. It is located on the east coast, the other side of Rhodes Town. The facades, doors and windows of its 17th and 18th century neoclassical houses are bright and cheerful, many with carved or etched designs. Small patios and gardens complete the pretty picture. You won’t be able to resist peeking in! The village boasts charming narrow streets, beautiful churches and chapels and a wonderful array of traditional taverns and cafes. There are countless paths that lead from the newer, coastal part to the old village with its cobbled streets and whitewashed squares full of vibrant flowers. Visitors to Koskinou enjoy delicious traditional cuisine in the local tavernas as well as yummy local wines. Koskinou has enjoyed an interesting history since the 4th century AD. Its 13th century medieval castle and the chapels built in the 4th century are worth visiting.

Kallithea is a gorgeous seaside gem. The beach at Kallithea is famous for its hot medicinal springs which were built by the Italians. The village is beautiful, lined with palm and pine trees and sprinkled with beautifully renovated buildings and mosaics, all influenced by the Arabic architecture. The Kallithea Spa was built in 1920 by the Italians. Following its restoration, the spa is a top sight. Many guests visit the area for its crystal clear azure waters and magical scenery.

South of these two picturesque resorts is Faliraki, buzzy and vibrant with its many hotels, bars, restaurants and an enormous sandy beach. The beach starts at the small harbour and spreads for nearly 5km so it’s a great spot to head for if you want a day of watersports and lazing in the sun. There is even an inflatable park for the young ones. Just about every water port imaginable is offered as well as bungee jumping. The nightlife is incredible with fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The Faliraki Water Park is fantastic fun and a very popular excursion for families.

Roughly an hour away, Lindos is one of the island’s prettiest towns, all in dazzling white and hints of blue. The town is overlooked by the Acropolis. You can hitch a ride to the top on the back of a donkey! The gorgeous narrow streets of Lindos feature charming shops and bars plus an excellent dining scene. Lindos’ millennia-old temple to Athena with its Doric columns and breathtaking 360 degree views should not be missed!

The Island/Getting There

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.

Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.

The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.

The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.

Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:

  • Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
  • The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
  • For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
  • Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) –  Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun.  Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
  • Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
  • Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.

How to reach Rhodes island

There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.

By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
