The wonderful Villa Dika is a capsule of contemporary cool that sits in the very heart of Chania. You might be forgiven for thinking that a holiday home in the centre of this bustling, vibrant resort would be cosy and somewhat tight for space but no, you will be welcomed to a palatial, spacious gem inviting relaxation and rejuvenation. The villa comes with outstanding living space that looks as though it is from an upmarket designer magazine, indoor and outdoor pools, a wine cellar and five ultra-cool, luxurious bedroom suites, not to mention a superb terrace and garden. Just moments from Chania’s picturesque Old Town and Venetian harbour, Villa Dika offers a private paradise liberally sprinkled with sumptuous contemporary furnishings and the very best of fittings. Its clean lines and cool vibe are just perfect for your next Greek holiday.

Chania Old Town is one of the most alluring, captivating towns of Crete. With picturesque, narrow alleys draped with colourful bougainvillaea, a fabulous fine dining scene, atmospheric bars, the most amazing sunsets and gorgeous little boutiques lining its quaint cobbled streets, you will quickly lose your heart and want to return time and time again. Just along the road are sensational sandy beaches and wonderful traditional tavernas. Crete is home to three of the most sensational beaches in all of Greece, Balos Beach, Elafonissis and Falasarna. You really must try and visit at least one of them during your stay.

Villa Dika is chic, effortlessly stylish and oozes luxury. It sits in the neighbourhood of Dikastira, a modern, elegant villa that even the most discerning of guests will be wowed with. The villa is built over two levels with three bedrooms on the ground floor along with glorious living spaces and two on the lower floor, along with the indoor pool, a second kitchen and a characterful wine cellar. Every bedroom boasts an ensuite bathroom, finished to a very high standard.

The ground-floor living space is bright and airy, drowned in natural light that floods the room through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open to the terrace. Ultra cool stylish sofas mingle with beautiful accent chairs, striking contemporary art, a contemporary gas fireplace, a giant smart television and chic lighting features, all under a sensational wooden beamed vaulted ceiling. At the far end of the room, a fantastically well-equipped designer kitchen offers top-of-the-range appliances and a seriously cool vibe, certain to please the chefs in your group. The central island and splashbacks all come in a deep rich grey, blending wonderfully with the cool calm colour palette. A beautiful dining table and chairs sit alongside the kitchen, under an eye-catching light arrangement. You will quickly realise that space, style and luxe living come in lavish abundance at Villa Dika.

The lower ground floor is home to a sublime indoor swimming pool with stone walls, a trendy hanging egg chair and another attractive wall which is part of the next-door wine cellar. Both places are absolutely beautiful, incredibly stylish and a total joy to be able to use. An extra kitchen and dining space complete the picture. You will enjoy a wine cooler in both kitchens so that your delicious local wines are served at the perfect temperature.

Your five bedrooms suites are heavenly, minimalist nests with beautifully dressed, sumptuous contemporary kingsize beds, trendy open wardrobe spaces, smart televisions for long lazy lie-ins, brilliant use of wood and cool colour palettes. The three first-floor bedrooms all offer access to the terrace and enjoy immaculate shower rooms. The lower ensuite bathrooms also boast indulgent freestanding baths where you can soak away any leftover stress.

Villa Dika’s terrace and garden are perfect for sunset drinks, alfresco dining and spending quality time with your family or favourite friends. The pool is wonderful and the lounge area comes with beautiful sofas and an outdoor fireplace. The alfresco dining area is also exquisite, coming with a barbecue and summer kitchen where your barbecue masters can create a feast sourced from local ingredients. It is a blissful spot that you will truly treasure. There are some lovely little green areas in the garden where you can hide away with your holiday book and a glass of something chilled and lovely.

Villa Dika is located in the heart of Chania, just 14km from the airport and 2km from the nearest beach. There are fantastic restaurants, bars and shops on the doorstep.

Known as the Venice of the East, Chania Old Town is magical with unique shops lining its cobbled streets, a brilliant dining scene, trendy and rooftop waterfront bars serving delicious cocktails and its famous Venetian harbour and imposing lighthouse. The harbour was originally built by the Venetians between 1320 and 1356 and is now a vibrant, cosmopolitan spot. The Egyptian lighthouse is much photographed, especially at sunset. You can take a slow meander to the lighthouse to take in the stunning views of the harbour, the Old Town and the backdrop of the majestic White Mountains. On the waterfront, the Giali Tzamisi is the oldest Muslim building in Crete. The Turkish name is translated to ‘The Seaside Mosque’. It plays host to various cultural events and exhibitions. You will fall in love with Chania and want to spend many of your evenings around the harbour.

Not far from Chania is the laid-back, friendly charmer Kalamaki with its gorgeous beach, amazing restaurants and tavernas and some useful shops. The beach restaurants are wonderful and generally always offer a glass of raki and some fruit or a dinky pudding as a treat after your meal. There is a good range of restaurants, some serving traditional Greek specialities and others offering fine dining such as Corinna Star at Corinna Mare and the restaurant at the Domes Noruz Chania Hotel. A good bus service runs to and from Kalamaki from the Old Town of Chania.

Following the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the second most visited tourist attraction in Crete is the dramatic and imposing Samaria Gorge. It sits at the foothills of the White Mountains and is the longest and most famous gorge in Europe. Within the White Mountain’s National Park, it rises to an altitude of 1,230m, is 150m at its widest point and 3m at its narrowest and continues down to Agia Roumeli on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The park and gorge offer protection to over four hundred and fifty species of plant and animal, of which seventy are endemic to Crete. This includes the rare kri-kri which are wild goats.

You should also spend at least one day on one of the island’s most exotic, spectacular beaches, Balos, Falasarna or Elafonissi.  You will remember any of them for a very long time. Balos Beach is located in the protected ‘NATURA’ area of Balos Bay with glistening white sand and an incredible turquoise sea. Not far away, the Cretan wonder, Falasarna, is another nestled lagoon with pool-like waters and pink sand. It has been awarded the best beach in Crete and one of the top ten beaches in Europe. You may also want to visit some of the mountain villages, visit ancient monasteries and historic monuments or hike one of the dramatic gorges.

How to reach Chania

There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:
Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.

By ferry:
If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Minoan’s World 3D Museum and 9D Cinema in Chania Town is popular. It is an immersive cinema where you can learn about the Minoan history while enjoying effects such as earthquakes and snow, bubbles and wind. There are many photo opportunities with murals in the background. The movie stars Zeus as a baby and as a God, abductions, flying too close to the sun and an eruption of the volcano in Santorini causing a devastasting tsunami that ended the Minoan era.

Limnoupolis is a fabulous, thrilling water park close to Chania boasting eleven exciting waterslides such as 100m giant slides, free fall slides, a black hole and triple twist slides, a kid’s pool and an artificial island. It also offers a relaxing one-hundred-and-thirty metre lazy river, a huge swimming pool with a diving platform, a kiddie pool and a relaxation area.

The Botanical Park of Crete is a twenty-hectare park, 18km from Chania. It boasts one hundred and fifty species of fruit trees and hundreds of herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants that the Cretan mountains are famous for. It is home to many birds around the lake, butterflies, wild goats, hares, badgers, Cretan rock ferrets, weasels and tree frogs. There is also a restaurant with amazing mountain views.

Lake Kournas is Crete’s largest freshwater lake and is fed by natural springs running off the Lefka Ori mountains. The water is twenty-two metres at its deepest and is a stunning turquoise colour. It is an excellent excursion with pedalos, lots of geese and terrapins and plenty of tavernas nearby. Close by is the Kanakis Olive Mill where you can learn all about the production of olive oil. You can taste the oil in the shop and pick up some souvenirs. You should also take a photograph with the two thousand-year-old olive tree outside.

Crete boasts many excellent beaches. Koum Kapi is the nearest beach to the villa, to the east of the harbour. On the other side of the Old Town, there are quite a number of beaches that you can easily reach by bus if you don’t have a car or don’t want to take the car out. Kalamaki Beach is lovely with some excellent beach tavernas for lunch. If you decide to visit Balos Beach, you can either drive or take a bus and boat ride there. There are plenty of family-friendly excursions from Chania to discover this amazing island.
