Overview

Pool Ideal for Kids All Bedrooms En-Suite

Villa Nadège is a spacious and modern home sitting on two hectares of lush green parkland and manicured gardens. With hiking routes and charming villages in easy reach, this is a wonderful base for your holiday exploring Provence.

The villa is a traditional farmhouse-style building with pretty blue shutters and rustic stonework. Inside, the beautiful interiors blend old and new with period features such as tiled floors and open fireplaces alongside elegant furnishings, dramatic light fittings and neutral décor. There is plenty of space in the villa for unwinding or coming together over an evening meal. There are two living rooms to choose from; one opens to the garden, and another is a snug TV room. Additionally, a fully-fitted kitchen and a dining area are on the ground floor. One of the three comfortable en-suite bedrooms is also situated on the ground floor, while the other two are on the first floor.

The upstairs rooms boast air conditioning which is not needed downstairs due to the cooling flooring. The villa has plenty of modern conveniences such as this to make your stay all the more relaxing; Smart TVs with Apple TV, Wi-Fi and a laundry room are all available for guests' use.

The garden at Villa Nadège is extensive and filled with tall trees, lawns and flower beds. There are plenty of areas where you can lounge with a good book or dine al-fresco while soaking up the gorgeous garden views. If you wish to cool down on a hot day, you can take a dip in the private pool, which is alarmed for the safety of little ones.

The villa is just 2km outside Eyragues village, a typical Provençal village with a large square at its heart. Eyragues is not a tourist destination, so here you can experience day-to-day life in rural France. You can visit several historic churches, such as the 11th-century chapel of Sainte Maxime. Many people visit to buy fresh produce at the local market held on a Friday and to gather for a chat by the fountain. For a village, Eyragues also has a great range of restaurants, from cosy French Bistros to sushi restaurants, so you will definitely find somewhere for a delicious meal here.

A little further away is Chateaurenard, which is 7km from the villa. This historic town is dominated by a castle. To reach the castle, you need to head up to the top of the hill, where you will be rewarded with views over the Durance Valley. The medieval castle is now mostly in ruins after it was ripped apart during the French Revolution, though there are still towers and walls which you can see. Two towers are filled with artefacts covering four periods of history and tell tales of some important guests that have stayed in the castle over time, such as King Louis XIV of France. The walk up to the castle takes around 20-minutes, so you may want to stop at the café for a drink before heading back down on a hot day. In town, there is a good selection of shops and eateries and a vast market selling goods grown in the valley and fields below. The town is proud of its agricultural heritage, and visitors can learn more about this by visiting the Museum of Agricultural Implements. If you would like to arrive in style to Chateaurenard, then why not come by steam train, which sets off from a number of nearby villages.

Provence is home to a wealth of lovely places; some other nearby attractions include Avignon, 17km away, and Les Baux-de-Provence, 19km away.

Eyragues is the local village, a mere 2km away from the villa. Having a village so close is brilliant for when you are enjoying a lazy day by the pool but need to grab something from the shops or would prefer to dine out in the evening. In Eyragues, you will discover a selection of cafes and restaurants, shops, and a weekly market on a Friday. This little village also has several cultural attractions, such as the Romanesque-style Saint Bonnet Chapel with its stunning gardens and ancient tombs. The churches here often host festivals for locally celebrated saints throughout the year, which are well-attended and are lovely community events. If you are here in August, for example, you can join in with the events of the party held for Saint-Symphorien, or in December, the village squares host a bustling Christmas market.

If you would like to see more of the natural environment near the villa, you will be glad to know that the home is located near the Alpilles mountain region, with many parks and woodlands. To get your bearings, why not take the well-signposted 12km hike which encircles the village. If you would like to see more, you could also head up one of the mountain peaks, see the landscape by bicycle, or even horseback on a trek with the nearby equine centre.

Aside from the local village, this area is packed with amazing places to visit. One must-visit place is Avignon's enchanting city, which is 17km away. Avignon is a truly beautiful city packed with staggering architecture, including numerous UNESCO-protected treasures. The main draw here is the Palace of the Popes, which was built in the 1300s as the popes decided to leave corrupt Rome behind. Visitors can explore 25 rooms of this vast building, the world’s largest Gothic palace. The palace is also home to an art museum. There are many other fantastic sights in town, such as the serene Rocher des Doms garden, which overlooks the breathtaking river and a wealth of ancient churches like the Basilique Saint Pierre. This area is also known for the production of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Wine lovers can take full-day tours of the city's vineyards or enjoy a few glasses of world-class wines at a bar after a delicious evening meal.

For something a little different, why not visit the once-abandoned village of Les Baux-de-Provence, which is 19km away and looks down over the surrounding hills from a height of 250 metres. After a rebellion in the 17th century, the village was destroyed and left empty for hundreds of years. This is hard to believe as you wander around the winding streets and picturesque squares as restaurant owners and craftspeople have moved back in, bringing life back to the village again. As it was empty for so long, many of the lovely buildings and historic architectural details remain; in fact, there are 22 historical monuments and buildings here, including the impressive castle ruins. At the base of the hill, art lovers will enjoy the Carrieres de Lumieres, an art installation held in a former limestone quarry. Each year the works of a famous artist such as Van Gogh are projected onto the walls, and you can truly immerse yourself in the works.
