Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids Walk to Village Parking Space

Imagine being able to stroll out for fresh croissants every morning to be enjoyed in your garden accompanied by the sound of church bells. Then, after a day out exploring this enchanting part of Provence, dip in your swimming pool before wandering out for an evening meal in a neighbouring bistro or café terrace.

At Maison Rubis you really are in the heart of a bustling village full of Provençal charm and authenticity. It’s a delightful 4-bedroom holiday home – walk into the hallway and down to the open-plan lounge and kitchen-diner, perfectly equipped with a feeling of home from home. French windows open out to the covered terrace with ample space for al-fresco dining by the outdoor plancha-grill.

The ground floor bedroom is a garden studio separate to the main part of the house, located just by swimming pool, whilst there are three further bedrooms on the first and second floor, each one featuring air-conditioning and a private bath or shower room. The bedrooms are comfortable, simply yet warmly styled and ideal for family or friends with a twin and three king-size beds (two of which can be split into twins).

Outside, alongside the shady terrace and little garden, there is a 7m long swimming pool with a decked surrounding, just right for cooling off on warm summer days.

Beyond your holiday home, embrace the authenticity of Maussane-les-Alpilles with its little shops, bistros and restaurant terraces on the main square just across the road which is especially atmospheric on summer evenings. Try some of the delicious products of the region at the Thursday morning market or by visiting local olive oil mills, wineries and farms producing honey, goats cheese and more gastronomic delights.

Drive to the picture-perfect hilltop village of Les Baux-de-Provence, only 4km away, follow the Van Gogh art trail in vibrant Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, admire the Roman amphitheatre in Arles or simply take long walks or cycle rides through the undulating landscapes of Les Alpilles with olive groves, woodland, farmland, rolling hills and the breathtaking limestone massif.

Maison Rubis is located in the very heart of Maussane-les-Alpilles, a bustling Provençal village in Les Alpilles Regional Nature Park, only 4km from Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Arrive by plane into Nîmes Airport (43km) or Marseille Airport (55km) or take the train to Avignon TGV (30km) with direct services from Paris Gare de Lyon taking around 2 hours 40 minutes.

Step out and you will find yourself in the village centre close to bistros and shops with the main square and its restaurant/café terraces just across the road. A spar grocery store is just a minute away on foot (there are larger supermarkets near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Saint Martin De Crau) whilst a delightful weekly market takes place on a Thursday morning.  The village has quite a gastronomic reputation not only for its olive oil production but also thanks to its restaurants in and around the village. Rick Stein’s much-loved Le Bistrot du Paradou, for example, is only 1.7km away.

Passing endless olive groves so typical of this region, Les Baux-de-Provence (4km) is just a short drive away with its enchanting medieval centre and perched château. Close by, discover glorious walks through the landscapes of Les Alpilles, visit little farms producing cheese, honey and other local delicacies, come across vineyards and wineries and partake in horse-riding, rock-climbing and cycling alongside many hiking opportunities.

Idyllic Eygalières (17km) and traditional Fontvieille (9km) are two other authentic villages of Les Alpilles whilst the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (10km) is also not to be missed with its cobbled lanes of art galleries, restaurants, café terraces and the famous Wednesday morning market which attracts visitors from across Provence.

Further afield, be fascinated by the Roman sites and art galleries of Arles (19km), also the gateway to the Camargue, or spend time exploring the small and historic city of Avignon (31km). Lovers of Roman history will adore the centre of Nîmes (45km) whilst Le Pont du Gard is only 40km by car, an incredible spot for a riverside picnic or canoeing beside the Roman aqueduct.

Located in the very centre of Maussane-les-Alpilles, families will enjoy the ease of buying croissants and fresh baguettes each morning and having restaurants so close from upmarket bistros to laid-back pizzerias.

The landscapes of Les Alpilles are ideal for long walks, pony-trekking, horse-riding and rock-climbing. Visit the iconic windmills of Fontvieille and take a ride on one of the open-air pedal-powered vehicles at Vélorail des Alpilles where you can discover the beautiful scenery as you pedal along century-old former railway tracks. As with all attractions, check opening times and dates in advance.

Art lovers can follow the Van Gogh trails in both Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Arles as well as visit the Carrières des Lumières (4km) were artwork is projected on to quarry walls accompanied by music.

The popular Zoo Barben (40km) is another great family day out with its many animals and large play area or you may prefer the charm of L'Arche de Méo (22km), a small farm where you can feed animals in picturesque surroundings.

A little further afield, visit the historic sites of Avignon and Nîmes, enjoy a picnic or even canoe by the incredible Pont du Gard and venture towards Fontaine-de-Vaucluse for canoeing/kayaking along the Sorgue, a tree-top adventure centre and other family activities in the height of the summer.
