Maison Gasquet is just perfect for families and friends who want to spend time together in a wonderful part of Provence. What’s more, it’s only a fifteen minute walk from one of the most famous and charming towns of the region, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Inside there is an impressive kitchen, ideal for keen cooks, and plenty of space downstairs for relaxing, reading, dining or just taking a break from the sunshine. All five bedrooms are full of character with antique furnishings and interesting artwork, each benefiting from en suite bathrooms and air-conditioning.
The upper garden has space for al-fresco lounging, or you can step down to the pool and go for a dip while listening to the birdsong in the trees. After your swim, it’s just a few steps along to the well-equipped air-conditioned gym or perhaps you would prefer to sip coffee in summer lounge or prepare lunch on the plancha-style barbecue.
St-Rémy is well known for its many fabulous eating places ranging from simple bistros to Michelin starred restaurants. If you are cooking at home, head to the Wednesday morning market where you can buy a huge variety of fresh produce, then have fun choosing your bottle of wine by joining one of the tasting tours at a local vineyard.
The much loved and widely recognised painting “Starry Night” was created by Van Gogh during his stay at the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole nearby and many artists still live and work in St-Rémy. The town is in the heart of an area of extraordinary beauty and variety which contains historic cities like Avignon and Arles as well as exquisite hill top villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence, Gordes and Eygalières.
There are plenty of activities for all ages from gentle lavender scented rambles to more challenging hikes, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing in the hills and mountains of Les Alpilles and the Luberon. It is even possible to take a day trip to the magical Carmargue National Park with its wild white horses, pink flamingos and even more opportunity for fun and adventure.
