This magnificent chateau in Charente offers guests a luxury, catered holiday retreat in a medieval castle. Set on a 50 hectare estate in the southern Loire Valley, it also makes for an enchanting wedding venue.
Ten stately bedrooms situated across two floors include en suite bathrooms and are gorgeously fitted with 17th and 18th century furnishings, four-poster beds and fireplaces. Additional beds are available to accommodate up to 24 guests. Or, rent the chateau’s keep alongside the main chateau and sleep a total of 40.
The grand salon, formal dining room, elegant living room, and library are all adorned with sophisticated décor, antique art, and period furnishings that feel as if you’re living in a distant era. Aside from the impressive architecture, the castle boasts historical significance: The Black Prince once imprisoned the French King, Jean le Bon, in the castle’s keep after the battle of Poitiers in 1356.
The extraordinary grounds will charm anyone, with its fruit trees, gardens, valley views, and vineyards, plus a fishing lake and a dramatic moat surrounding the property. You’ll be within three hours of Paris for day trips, and close by renowned wine and the Loire Valley Chateaux for an unforgettable French holiday.

- The chateau's keep is also available to book either separately or together with the main chateau (for up to 40 guests in total)

- The chateau is typically a catered rental, though upon request a kitchen is available for self-cooked meals at the Orangerie

Property Features
The chateau has 10 bedroom suites to sleep up to 24 guests. Each of the luxury bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom. 5 of the bedrooms are to be found on the 1st floor and 5 on the 2nd floor of the chateau. There are 4/5 extra comfortable beds in the chateau should they be required. Each of the bedrooms has its own unique character; there are wonderful fireplaces, four poster beds and classic 17th and 18th century furnishings.
On the ground floor of the chateau there is a dramatic salon, dining room and library. The chateau is usually rented on a catered basis, however there are 2 kitchens in the chateau that can be used on request.
Within the castle grounds there is an enchanting moat, a lake where one can fish, and the superbly maintained gardens with a Weber gas BBQ. There are also excellent bird watching opportunities in the chateau estate.

About the surrounding area of Chateau De St LouisLe Chateau de Saint Louis is located in the most southern part of the Loire Valley in the region of Poitou-Charentes between the cities of Parthenay and Thouars.
The castle is a 3 hour drive from Paris. By high-speed TGV train from Paris the travel time is 1.5 hours to Poitiers, which is a 45 minute drive to the castle.

- A continental breakfast is served upon request in the dining room for €15 per person per day (eggs and bacon are available for €5). Also, the Chateau will gladly provide you with dinner served in the dining room for €75 per person and a half bottle of red Chinon wine per person. Aperitifs and coffees are additional. There are plenty of fantastic local restaurants.
- There is a kitchen in the chateau so it is possible to self cater.

Incroyable !
Petit déjeuner varié, pour tout les goûts. Le site est magnifique, l'accès au château et ses jardins vraiment WOW. Juste l'idée de dormir dans un tel endroit était en soi impressionnant pour nous des québécois en vacances. Les propriétaires étaient vraiment très gentil et à l'écoute de nos besoins. Rien a redire, 12/10 !

A fantastic chateau, castle keep and grounds in a wonderful location. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming, wonderful hosts, wonderful property, wonderful rooms and breakfast. I didn't want to leave.

Exceptional
Accommodations were like stepping back in time! Truly charming, yet comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful! Our family really enjoys breakfast and this one was wonderful and beautifully presented with the best espresso I've had in France! Our host was so lovely to chat with and invited us to explore the grounds which were just as beautiful as the Chateau! We could not have been more pleased with our visit. Thank you.

Celebration at the Chateau!
We were invited as guests to celebrate our dear friends' 25th wedding anniversary. There were over 20 of us and the grounds and chateau were perfectly suited for a spectacular weekend in August. Some of us stayed in the 17th century Chateau and some in the 11th century Keep which is a castle tower. We stayed in the Keep in the yellow room and loved the charm of the 4 poster bed and decor. The room was very quiet and cool which was a great relief when travelling in summer. The hosts/owners were very friendly and accessible including providing us our tour of the grounds on our first day with some interesting history and background of the chateau and castle. I am hoping to have an opportunity to return soon!
