Book Now & Grow Green: 3 Trees Planted with Every Booking!

This Earth Day, join our mission to plant 3 trees for every booking made between April 22nd - 28th, 2024. Let's make a sustainable impact together! Learn more about our journey here >>

In the dreamy Languedoc-Roussillon, a region filled with idyllic landscapes, vineyards and Mediterranean beaches, Villa Carreaux Bleus is a lovely holiday home just outside a wine village near the vibrant town of Béziers.

This is a place for care-free holidays; splashing in the heated swimming pool, playing boules, enjoying poolside lunches and gazing out to the countryside around you. The Moroccan-style outdoor lounge is a particularly enchanting place to enjoy a glass of Coteaux de Béziers wine before dining by the summer kitchen and barbecue as the sun sets for the day. Trailing roses, lavender and shady trees give the gardens a Mediterranean feel whilst North African influences add to the rather exotic vibe.

Inside, the interiors are relaxed and homely, ideal for a group of friends or maybe two families with four bedrooms scattered over three buildings; the main house, a pool annexe and two garden suites. The grand kitchen-diner, with its cathedral high ceiling and chandeliers, is beautifully equipped whilst the living space is equally impressive with doors leading to one of the terraces. Objets d’art throughout give this holiday home a real sense of character and warmth.

The lovely owners arrange for croissants to be delivered a couple of times a week and can give a bicycle tour of the area if you desire. Indeed, bikes and helmets are provided, including three child seats, ideal for days out exploring vineyards or following the towpath by the nearby Canal du Midi.

This region offers history, culture, incredible scenery and great beaches. Visit some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ within a short drive, experience atmospheric markets in towns such as Pézenas and admire some of France’s UNESCO World Heritage sites in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Carcassonne. Béziers, just 12km away, offers a true Languedoc experience with its great food, wines and long history of bull-fighting.

Hire canoes along the Orb river, swim in rock pools near Olargues or follow wonderful walking trails across the Hérault. Of course, the Mediterranean is also so close with the long sandy beaches at the seaside resort of Valras-Plage just twenty minutes away.

You may prefer to spend your time exploring local wineries from Minerve to Mèze and beyond, then savour your finds on the poolside terrace at the charming Villa Carreaux Bleus.

In the heart of the Hérault department in Languedoc-Roussillon, Villa Carreaux Bleus is located just outside a wine-village only 12km from Béziers.

The local village has a handful of places to eat, a small grocery store as well as wineries as this area is covered with vineyards. There are further amenities in surrounding towns just a short drive away, as well as the city of Béziers. Local highlights include the Oppidum d'Ensérune, a 10-minute drive away, with its fascinating museum and wonderful views down to the impressive Étang de Montady.

The Canal du Midi is also just a short journey away; the marina in Colombiers (5km) is a pleasant place to have lunch or even hire a boat for a day out on the canal. The Canal du Midi also offers walking and cycling routes along its tow path, a great way to see the region.

Béziers (12km) is a hidden gem in southern France; a vibrant town known for its excellent wines and a long history associated with bull-fighting. Look out for the 4-day long feria in August, the region’s biggest event when the town comes alive with festivities and bull-fights! At any time of year it’s a pleasant place to explore, visit the art galleries and the grand Romanesque cathedral or stroll by the Canal du Midi and Orb river. The food scene is particularly great from wine bars and bistros to Michelin starred restaurants.

Head west to the Minervois region and discover amazing walking trails through fields of olive groves, vineyards, wild gorges and spectacular landscapes. Explore delightful villages such as fortified Aigne (32km) with its incredible historic lanes, galleries and caves for wine-tasting or Minerve (38km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with its fascinating Cathar history.

Olargues (44km) and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert (75km) are also two of Hérault’s classified ‘most beautiful villages in France’. Look out for the especially idyllic Gorges Heric (40km), near Olargues, where you can swim in rock pools. Closer to home, there is also wonderful scenery along the Orb river and you can hire canoes and kayaks in Cessenon-sur-Orb (15km) or Roquebrun (24km).

Pézenas (40km) is another delightful town, especially famous for its Saturday morning market. It’s a town filled with art, theatre and history and in July and August there are vibrant night markets on a Friday evening where you’ll find street food, live music and plenty of local wine.

The beaches of the Languedoc are also within easy reach. Valras-Plage (22km) is a traditional fishing village turned seaside resort with a bustling town, marina, 4km of sandy beaches and a variety of watersports. Further along the coast, beaches at Cap d'Agde (45km) and Marseillan Plage (50km) also offer plenty of family-friendly activities or head west towards the beaches of the Aude in Regional Natural Park of Narbonne, about 45 minutes away.

Also worthy of a visit are Narbonne (26km), Montpellier (80km) and the amazing Carcassonne (70km), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Region

Languedoc-Roussillon is one of those areas of France where you can feel like you’re totally cut off from the rest of the country. Commercial tourism has been very slow to capitalise on the region, meaning you can still enjoy a slice of authentic French rural life at its finest. A mixture of landscapes also makes it a great place to visit, with a good stretch of coastline offering a totally different experience to more bucolic interiors. Whatever you’re looking for, our range of villas and chateaux in Languedoc means you can get exactly the kind of holiday you want with accommodation that’s perfectly tailored to you, your friends and your family.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

The Languedoc-Roussillon region is wonderful for kids – the perfect combination of seaside fun, stunning countryside and outdoor activities.

The Canal du Midi is just a few minutes away by car. Take the villa’s bikes out with you (or rent your own) to follow the towpaths past incredible scenery, visiting little villages en route. You can also hire boats for pottering around on the canal for a day or simply go for a pleasant walk and canalside picnic.

You can hire canoes and kayaks on the River Orb in Cessenon-sur-Orb and Roquebrun and there are also many amazing gorges, including Gorges Heric, where you will find locals swimming in the rock pools in the summer.

The Mediterranean beaches along the Languedoc are also wonderful for families. The closest, Valras Plage, used to be a fishing village but is now a lively summer seaside resort with sandy beaches and all sorts of family-friendly activities and watersports. Further east, Cap d'Agde also had all sorts for youngsters with water parks, mini-golf, summer evening fairground rides and long sandy stretches of coastline.

Reviews

  • All in all excellent!

    on 13/10/2023

Very enjoyable week. Great host. Enjoyed Pourquoi Pas and the wine tasting. Weather was perfect too.

    Very comfortable villa. Great property.

    All in all excellent.

  • Great place!

    on 08/10/2023

Great place. Great host. Free meal at very authentic restaurant. Got us a great taxi driver. Everyone happy.

  • A marvellous week

    on 07/10/2023

On arrival the owner welcomed us with a tour around the villa, with all we could have wished for, welcome cheeses and wine, a joy to us both. Our visit to the cave in St. Chinian was a great experience both of the wines and the art in the winery. The weather has been so wonderful, we have enjoyed many hours around and in the pool, with brief trips to Beziers and the surrounding countryside.

The trip to Pourquoi Pas was most enjoyable, seeing many hectares of vineyards and many unmade roads, but what a welcome, and meal we had. Many thanks.

A marvellous week, we will be sad to leave this lovely oasis.

    Many thanks for your hospitality.

  • Great house!

    on 23/09/2023

All good. Great house for extended family. Enjoyed Le Pourquoi Pas very much. Thank you.

  • We would love to come back!

    Created on 16/09/2023

We have spent a fantastic 3 weeks at Villa Carreaux Bleus. The owner has been a splendid host - very generous & attentive. He really went above and beyond to make our stay as as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

We really enjoyed Pourquoi Pas and Les Grands Buffets as his guests - thank you.

In addition we recommend Le Terminus in Cruzy, and Le Cafe du Paix in Saint-Chinian. We enjoyed exploring the region by bike, cycling an accumulative total together of 900 miles. We also enjoyed day trips to Beziers and Narbonne. We would love to come back!

  • A lovely week in a gorgeous villa

    on 03/07/2023

What a lovely week in such a gorgeous villa.
We have been really lucky with the weather and spent so much time in the pool.
The villa has been perfect for 7 of us - each group having their own space.
We have enjoyed visits to Capestang, Valras Plage, Beziers and the 7 Locks - well worth a visit!
The meal was a lovely addition to the stay.
Fresh bread and pastries discreetly delivered two mornings was a lovely start to the day.
We are sad to be leaving but time to hand the villa to the next lucky guests.

  • A lovely villa!

    on 27/06/2023

A great week in a lovely villa with almost perfect weather. We came without a car which turned out to be a bit of a challenge but we discovered that the buses are great (though not many of them) and taxi drivers in Beziers always know how to find the house! We'd recommend a bus to the wine tasting, worked perfectly with lunch in St. Chinian! Everybody in Maureilhan has been very friendly - we'd recommend the general store, boulangerie and bar plus Pharmacy and Post Office, we visited them all! Sete was a great day out, lots to see, and plenty of places to eat. We hope there would be a restaurant in the village but no luck. We'll miss sitting outside for every meal...

  • Great holiday!

    on 19/06/2023

A great location for our group of 8 old friends who have been spending holidays together for many years now. We enjoyed the unique layout of the villa with so many comfortable places inside and out, in sun or shade. Somewhere for everyone to be together or alone as required.
We are grateful to the owner for so much. Local wine, cheese, bread and pastries have been eagerly consumed and we had a delicious dinner beside the Canal du Midi.
After admiring the art and tasting the wine at the cave co-operative in St. Chinian we drove a few miles further north to the beautiful ancient village of Roqueburn on the River Orb - well worth a visit.
We enjoyed our cycle rides on quiet country roads through the vineyards to Poilhes and can recommend a visit to Meze not just for its pretty beach and harbour but also for the local oysters. Our week has flown by and we return to the UK happy and relaxed.
    Thank you

  • Amazing holiday

    on 10/06/2023

I am sitting with my final cup of coffee, overlooking the pure blue swimming pool, thinking back over our fabulous week at Villa Carreaux Bleus with all our family, including our 3 year old grandson. What an amazing home, beautifully decorated with objects from all around the world. We've done so many incredible things, a day on the beach at Portiragnes, winetasting at the Cove in St Chinian (Tomes was a brilliant master of degustation!), bike riding through the vines and several bbqs, eating outside in the balmy evenings. The owner went above and beyond to answer all our queries, thank you so much!
    merci bien!

  • Exceptional

    on 24/09/2022

Villa Carreaux Bleus et les hôtes sont vraiment magnifiques! The location and standard of the villa is exceptional. A great base to explore the markets, vineyards and local villages. Lovely beaches nearby too. Plenty of space for everyone (6 adults - different ages and abilities). Great to have own facilities and all on ground level. Really appreciated the pastries and bread from the owner - although lovely artisan bakery in the village. A few stray cats around - encourage at your peril (or subsequent guests' peril!). Would highly recommend.

  • Fantastique!

    on 22/09/2022

  • Gorgeous house

    on 08/09/2022

We have so loved our stay here in your gorgeous house. 6 adults and a baby, all with our own space. Beautiful surroundings, a fabulous pool. Thank you so much for your generosity, with croissants, bread, fruit and vineyard visits (not to forget Le Pourquoi Pas!). We've also enjoyed the neighbours' cats' company and they've enjoyed 2 meals a day from us! We're going home feeling totally relaxed, having swum in the pool everyday, eaten and drunk copious amounts of local produce, and much more. Thank you so much from all of us.

  • Fabulous

    on 15/08/2022

Many thanks for arranging the vineyard trip - we had a really interesting time and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Thank you too for an amazing dinner last night. The food was delicious, the music really atmospheric and the sunset beautiful. It was very kind of you. It was a fabulous evening - we loved it.

  • We will be back!

    on 25/06/2022

Thank you so much for your warm hospitality. We had a very chilled holiday visiting many nearby fabulous places and relaxing by the pool. Thanks also for the lovely meal at 'le pourquoi pas' and the recommendations. We will definitely be back all being well. Merci beaucoup!

  • Great holiday

    on 30/05/2022

Very many thanks for what has been a great holiday this past week. Thank you also for Le Pourquoi Pas and the early morning bread delivered which were a special treat. This is a special place and our only regret is that we only had one week here.

  • Superb week

    on 14/05/2022

We had a really superb week and had the very best hosts, we felt very spoiled and very well looked after throughout the week. We would have no hesitation in recommending the villa to others for their holiday, it was a fantastic experience. It was a bonus to have the swimming pool in the warm weather. We also enjoyed the restaurants, wine tasting and other amenities in the locality.

  • What a fabulous place!

    on 29/04/2022

We had a lovely time and the weather got better - so hot! Thank you for the breakfast deliveries, everything was provided. The children loved the cat!

  • Exceptional hosts

    on 31/07/2020

We have the last two weeks enjoyed your house and all the facilities. It was a little too hot to go on a real bike trip but to the bakery was ok. We would like to thank you for your exceptionally good hospitality and kindness. Also thank you for your assistance when we had car problems...and the croissants were delicious!

  • Really enjoyable stay

    Created on 02/12/2019

We have just had a really enjoyable stay at Villa Carreaux Bleus, it was the most perfect villa with a beautiful large heated pool. The accommodation was a perfect layout for our party of 6 adults (3 couples) with our own individual space and was so well equipped with everything we could have ever needed as well as being spotlessly clean. The location is excellent too with an easy walk to the quaint, authentic local village with a great boulangerie and pizzeria. The owners were the most lovely people, so polite and kind with a great laid back attitude to renting out their gorgeous house. They kept delivering breakfast for us and one day left us a delicious tarte aux pommes. He went out of his way to make sure we had a brilliant time and genuinely cared about us. I can't recommend the villa enough it was beautiful.

  • Thoroughly recommend

    on 10/09/2019

We have just returned from a week staying at this lovely villa which, as the other reviews state is very clean, well-equipped and laid out to give plenty of room and personal space to all occupants. There were 5 adults in our party but there was plenty of room for 8 adults plus. The main room was cool and roomy with a large luxury bathroom and ante-room (with a single bed). Two other (connecting) rooms, both with their own en suites and seating areas were in a separate building with air conditioning and a third room, also with air conditioning and an en suite was in a third building resulting in as much privacy as you wish. The sitting room had 3 sofas, the dining room a large table and there was plenty of room in the two kitchen areas with a lovely range cooker (if you plan to do any cooking). The pool area is lovely with different seating/lounging areas in a Moroccan style, a summer kitchen/barbecue and outside shower. The owner stopped by early a couple of mornings (without waking anyone) to clean and check the pool. Getting into the pool itself was a bit of a challenge as the water was a bit on the cool side for us softie Brits but nice once you were in! The owner was extremely kind and helpful and spoiled us with a lovely apple tart, bread, cheese and wine on arrival plus deliveries of delicious pastries during our stay. We didn't stray too far from the villa as we weren't there long but it was well placed for trips to Beziers and further afield to Montpellier and Carcassonne plus the gorges, caves, etc. The surrounding area is a wine-growing region so plenty of vines and pretty countryside. The villa neighbourhood seems to be mostly residential and Maureilhan itself was a pleasant village with a few shops and pizza restaurant. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend this villa for a lovely holiday

  • Exceptional property

    on 17/07/2019

Having rented holiday homes in France for many years I am sure that the welcome from Philippe was the warmest we have ever had.
His kindness and generosity in providing a wonderful welcome pack comprising cheeses, bread, fruit, wine and a tart made our arrival very pleasant.
The house is beautifully appointed and every need seemed to have been considered.
The layout of the three buildings is particularly suited to large families with two large ensuite bedrooms in one block, a compact double in the pool house and a magnificent master suite in the main house.
The facilities are exceptional, with a comprehensively equipped kitchen, air conditioning in the key areas, a great variety of outdoor seating (very comfortable) in sun and shade, a fantastic out-door kitchen with barbecue and a superb swimming pool, all set in beautiful gardens.
Philippe kindly brought croissants or pastries on the (very early) mornings he would silently clean the pool and another large selection of local goodies when changing the sheets after a week.
The location is quiet and peaceful yet there are lots of interesting places to visit within a short drive. Béziers and the villages along the Canal du Midi provide lots to do and the coast is only 20 minutes away.
This is an exceptional property which feels like a home rather than a rental and you could not fail to enjoy a holiday here.
