Overview
On the beautiful island of Porquerolles, a stay at Villa Zephirine offers you the chance to step back in time to experience a relaxed holiday in charming surroundings.
Set in a relatively quiet area of the island’s only small town, this rustic getaway exudes the authentic character you can expect across Île de Porquerolles. Sleeping up to eight guests, there are four bedrooms, two of which are reached via the pretty courtyard. There’s also an attractive lounge and dining area alongside a traditional kitchen for preparing meals for family or friends.
Outside, enjoy a glass of chilled rosé from the island’s acclaimed vineyards as you relax beneath the pergola in your courtyard with delicate roses and splashes of summer colour, also a perfect place for your morning coffee or to simply sit and read. This is what laidback summer holidays on the island are all about.
There are restaurants and a grocery store a short stroll away, as well as the atmospheric main square where locals play boules, but the best way to discover the island is by bike seeing as Porquerolles is virtually car-free. Head to nearby beaches such as Plage de la Courtade for summer watersports and Plage Notre Dame with its turquoise-coloured sea. Above all, embrace the stunning natural surroundings of the island, a protected national park, as you pass olive groves, orchards, vineyards, pines and eucalyptus trees.
Visit the contemporary art exhibitions and gardens at Fondation Carmignac, gaze at the views from Fort Sainte-Agathe, come across the impressive lighthouse and admire the restoration of the windmill at Moulin du Bonheur.
Hire a boat and skipper to explore the rugged southern coastline or you could even venture to one of the other Îles d'Hyères whether appreciating the natural beauty of Île du Levant or making the most of the wild landscapes and snorkelling opportunities of Île de Port Cros.
What you should know…

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ZephirineVilla Zephirine is on the gorgeous island of Porquerolles, one of the Îles d'Hyères located just a short ferry ride from the Giens peninsula near Hyères in the French Riviera.
The house enjoys a charming location in the island’s only small town around 500m from the tourist office and port. The best way to arrive is via the 15-minute ferry or taxi boat from La Tour Fondue on the mainland (8.5km from Toulon Hyères Airport) or take the train to Toulon and pick up a ferry from there, taking around an hour – always check timetables in advance. Private boat transfers can also be arranged with advance notice – please enquire.
On the whole, Porquerolles is a car-free island (other than the odd golf cart or similar vehicle) so it is best to hire bikes to be able to explore your surroundings. Keen walkers note there are plenty of hiking routes, passing fruit orchards, pine and eucalyptus trees and olive groves – Porquerolles is part of a national park and therefore its natural beauty is wonderfully preserved. Wine-lovers take note that highly regarded rosé is produced from the island’s vineyards.
Back to Porquerolles town, there is a small supermarket as well as a choice of lovely cafes and restaurants. Soak up the ambience as locals play boules at Place d’Armes and potter around the small but charming old town. The residential location of Villa Zephirine feels relatively peaceful, even in the height of the summer when day-trippers crowd the island, despite the heart of the town being a few steps away.
Just beyond the town, walk up to Fort Sainte-Agathe for incredible views and then venture across to Fondation Carmignac (1.5km) to see what contemporary art exhibitions may be taking place and to admire its artistic and natural gardens.
Elsewhere on the island, embrace its authentic ambience as you cycle around. Boasting 30km of coastline, come across beaches such as nearby Plage de la Courtade (1.5km) with diving and other seasonal water-based activities or head a little further towards picture-perfect spots such as Plage Notre Dame (5km) and you will soon realise why so many compare Île de Porquerolle’s beaches to those of the Caribbean. Hire a boat and skipper to explore the rugged southern coastline.
It's also worth finding the time visit the neighbouring Îles d'Hyères. Île du Levant is perfect for long walks through the natural landscapes whilst Île de Port Cros, the smallest of the island, as many marked trails through its wild surroundings and it’s a stunning place for snorkelling.

Best Suited For: All AgesSoak up the rustic and authentic ambience of Île de Porquerolles on a family holiday at Villa Zephirine.
First of all, arrange bike hire (with options for various ages) as the best way to explore this virtually car-free island. You also have the charming restaurants and cafes of Porquerolles’ small town within a short stroll. There’s a little playground at Place d’Armes near where locals play boules.
Plage de la Courtade is one of the closest beaches, home to a diving centre and seasonal activities such as paddle boats, sailing and sea-kayaking. Plage d'Argent is another gorgeous spot for all ages with turquoise coloured sea whilst iconic Plage Notre Dame is one of the beaches often compared to the Caribbean. There are lots of views to be admired too, whether walking up to Fort Sainte-Agathe, coming across the island’s lighthouse or finding the old windmill at Moulin du Bonheur.
