Its location in an exclusive residential area in the hills is brilliant for discovering quaint hilltop villages, wine routes, Provencal markets, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, blissful beaches and fabulous hiking routes with stunning views.
Maison Lacoste enjoys terraced gardens and accommodation over several levels due to its hillside position. The layout of the house makes it particularly suitable for two families taking a holiday together. Its peachy exterior and gorgeous shutters are very appealing, immediately making you feel warm and happy. The ground floor of Maison Lacoste is home to two double bedrooms and a family bathroom with steps up to an open-plan living space and a third bedroom. The lower level is where you will find a children's bedroom and another double room.
The main living area is absolutely wonderful with natural light streaming in through a number of huge glass doors which open to the terrace and offer extraordinary sea views. You will discover a squishy sofa, trendy accent chairs, a feature fireplace, a sociable circular dining table and chairs and a green-tinged country kitchen with a small breakfast table. The kitchen is perfect for a self-catering holiday with all the appliances you could possibly need.
The bedrooms are all fairly minimalist in design, all calm and peaceful nests with mostly king-size beds; one has a queen size bed, and the children's room offers fun bunk beds. Guests staying in the two ground-floor king-size bedrooms share an immaculate family bathroom with a bath and a shower. Up the stairs, a queen room boasts an en-suite shower room as well as a delightful, furnished private balcony with sea views. It also doubles as a very attractive library with two walls of books! The bunk room is on the lower ground floor, along with the final king-size room, a shared bathroom with a bath and overhead shower and a handy laundry room.
The 2,600 square metres of grounds of Maison Lacoste are wonderful. Outstanding Landscapes
Maison Lacoste enjoys a fabulous hillside position with dreamy sea views. It sits above the magical artist village of Saint-Paul de Vence, which looks wonderful from Maison Lacoste's elevated position. The village enjoys an abundance of art galleries, cafes, bars and restaurants and has for an age been popular with the rich and famous. Some famous artists apparently paid in kind for their stays, leaving amazing works of art for the hotel owners. The village sits a few kilometres from the sea with stunning views of the coast between Cagnes-sur-Mer and Antibes. As you wander down the main street of Saint-Paul de Vence, you will pass charming galleries, art studios and some wonderful shops. One of the most photographed features is the impressive fountain in the Place de la Grande Fontaine. At the highest point of the village, there was once a castle, but now the city hall is located there next to a 14th-century church.
Not far away is the seaside, sparkly gem Nice. It is just fabulous with a gorgeous beach, wonderful promenade and lots of action. Nice enjoys both French and Italian culture, with the Italian influence palpable everywhere. Nice's tall shuttered buildings look as though they could be in Portofino, and there are pasta shops on every corner. It is a city of artists, with Matisse making it his home for thirty-seven years. Chagall, Picasso and Renoir also fell in love with the city, and it now offers three amazing art museums: the Musees Matisse, Chagall and d'Art Moderne. Nice also boasts some exceptional eateries, starting at Vieux Nice's Saleya food market and finishing with fine dining by top chefs. The city celebrates its street food with delicious chickpea pancakes, caramelised onion tart and chard, raisin and pine nut pies.
With a long list of special ingredients, the nearby Antibes is a place to enjoy a good meal, relax and watch the boats, stop for a coffee, visit a museum or shop in the designer shops and boutiques. Many of the town's small squares are surrounded by ancient houses and traditional fountains, making it very picturesque. The covered market is an excellent and fun way to buy local produce as well as hand-crafted artisan items. The town also boasts some wonderful gardens, including the botanical gardens of Villa Thuret, the sea view gardens of Eilenroc Villa and the fabulous Exflora Park.
For art lovers, The Picasso Museum is a must-visit in the Grimaldi Castle. Picasso lived in the Juan-les-Pins area for most of his life and had a studio in Grimaldi Castle for a few months after World War II. As well as more than fifty works by Picasso, the museum has a wonderful collection of works by other modern artists popular around the middle of the 20th century such as Joan Miro and Max Ernst. There is also a museum dedicated to Napoleon and a fabulous archaeology museum in the defensive walls of the town. You must take a stroll along the seafront and head out to Cap-d'Antibes. You can follow the Smugglers Path along the coast from the Plage de la Garoupe on the eastern side of the cap. Antibes boasts excellent beaches, the main beach being Plage de la Gravette. Other popular sandy beaches are the Plage du Ponteil and the Plage de la Salis.
