COVID-19 Update: Change of Dates
Should Coronavirus related travel restrictions mean your villa holiday cannot go ahead then simply request a change of dates. Read full T&Cs here
This farmhouse style villa in Aquitaine is perfect for a peaceful family holiday. The house is a casual, comfortable converted barn, full of beautiful old stonework and wooden beams. From this perch above the Sainte Alvère Valley the green countryside stretches out before you, full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
On the Dordogne River you’ll find dozens of wineries near Bergerac, just a 35 minute drive away. Here you can visit the Maison des Vins, where you’ll see an exhibition of the history of the 13 appellations of the Bergerac wine region. Or drive a little farther to experience famous Bordeaux region.
After a long day touring you can easily cook dinner in the updated, economical kitchen, but we recommend dining at Chez Cathy in Ste. Alvère (4 km).
If you love the outdoors, this villa holiday will be heaven. Public tennis courts can be found in Sainte Alvère, or golf is outside of Bergerac (30 km) at Chateau les Merles. A 20 minute drive will take you to Camberoux, and the nearest horseback riding stable. And if the kids are in tow, take them to the alligator show at Aquarium du Périgord Noir (18 km).

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Wonderful holiday, a lovely place and superb memories.
We booked a lovely villa through Oliver's Travels in St Alvere in the Dordogne region of France and we decided to drive there from Eastbourne, England. We were shown around when we arrived and the villa was breath taking. The 4 bed home was in a small cul-de-sac on a hill with nothing around for miles - The nearest place was St Alvere which was about 4km away. We had access to an outdoor pool, games room, kitchen, lounge, dining area, 2 bathrooms and a lot of space. We spent time cooking, eating, swimming, playing table tennis, reading, talking, etc.
The local markets were great and we had great local coffee and wine each day. The local villages were places of beauty and history. In the villa we had all the amenities we needed to cook, eat and play and we spent a lot of time in the pool - the weather was perfect most days, interpersed by the odd thunderstorm and a couple of cooler cloudy days. During the week we visited St Alvere, Limeuil (River beach village), Arcachon (largest Sand Dune in Europe) and Bordeaux - visiting markets, kayaking down the Dordogne, sunbathing and swimming in the sea, looking around historic places, taking the tour of one of the homes of one of Napoleon's only living relatives, etc. were all amazing things to do and added greatly to personal and family experiences. We all tried our hand at French and by the end of the week I was starting my conversations in French.
Overall, we had a jam-packed holiday which felt a lot longer than 8 days and we forged a greater understanding of France and each other during our time there.

A beautiful barn in an idyllic setting
Robin is a beautiful, but slightly dated barn conversion in a idyllic rural setting. The pool and gardens are excellent, and the surrounding area has a wonderful mix of historic towns and beautiful countryside. We had a wonderful week and would recommend Robin.
