Just a five-minute stroll across the Roman style bridge takes you to the village bakery, grocery store, bar/tabac/restaurant and post office. The desirable villages of Eymet and Duras are a short drive away.

This 17th-century manor house is steeped in history  and even boasts one of the finest Pigeonniers in France, which is a National Monument. The house full of rustic charm and beauty with terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams and thick, stone walls which keep the house cool.

Its two hectares of grounds offer a pretty and romantic walled garden lined with lavender, a lawned courtyard and pergolas of wisteria and ivy. In the rest of the grounds there are many secluded areas to simply sit and enjoy your surroundings. There is also a large private swimming pool, table tennis and boules pitch for the more active guests. The outside dining table is perfect for late afternoon lunches and dinners under the stars whilst devouring all the delicious local delicacies purchased from the local markets.

Manoir Colombe is located on the border of the Dordogne and the Lot et Garonne regions, surrounded by beautiful countryside, vineyards and chateaux. The property is ideally situated to explore and discover this fabulous part of France with activities for all to enjoy including horse riding, kayaking, hiking, cycling, wine tours and many towns to explore.

If you prefer to stay local, there are many activities within walking distance or just a short drive away. There is a small 9-hole golf course just up the road and there are a couple of sets of clubs in the Manoir which you are welcome to use. There are also three more courses at the internationally known Chateau des Vigier, 20mins drive away.

The nearby village is within walking distance and offers all the necessary amenities including a bakery, small supermarket, bar/tabac/restaurant and a post office. Throughout the summer months, the village hosts a Soiree Gourmande every Friday evening, serving an al fresco meal of locally produced food and wine, on the square and everyone is made very welcome.

The pretty village of Eymet is only a short drive away and is certainly worth a visit, especially as has been a key location in the Tour de France in the past. There are ruins of the original castle, picturesque streets, many restaurants, a weekly market every Thursday and a night market during the summer.

The lovely village of Miramont de Guyenne also has a weekly market.

Similarly, Duras, with its famous chateau, medieval clock tower and Maison des Vins, is a popular town to visit.

The ancient town of Bergerac is characterised by its charming medieval features and original cobbled pavements. Boasting boutique shops, restaurants and pavement cafes it is most appreciated on foot. Situated in the renowned Dordogne, Bergerac is a real gateway to the surrounding wine region. Indulge in the famous Maison des Vins before exploring the countless wineries and vineyards in the beautiful countryside.

During the summer months, the town is thriving with regular markets, concerts and festivals. The whole family will enjoy a boat trip up the river, with the opportunity to see local chateaux and typical French villages. Within the local surroundings, Bergerac has a whole host of activities on offer, including caves, castles, bowling, water parks and lakes, to name a few.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
Since September 2013 and it took us 11 years to find the perfect place.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The character and history of the place, but also its ability to be comfortable and homely at the same time. There are other, but very hard to explain, it is its atmosphere, for one and also, it’s like having our own secret place as because of the walled garden at the front and the hedges around the property and pool, we can be completely private but so close to amenities.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
It is believed that it belonged to the Knight Templars, which means there must have been a structure here in the 14th century. There are a number of examples of the Manoir being used for defence – supports for a long since gone tower, slit windows and a very small round one that can be seen out of from one of the toilets, from which a gun must have been fired!
On the property is the Pigeonnier, which is a National Monument. It was built in the 16th century and has nine columns. The sundial on the Manoir has the date 1699 on it and it is believed that this was the year that a major renovation took place – the removal of the tower and extending the house and re-roofing it.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Sadly, not.

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?

Go along to as many of the markets around especially Eymet and Issigeac. Don’t miss the Soiree Gourmande of La Sauvetat du Dropt – every Friday night in July and August.

Really eat?
Anything with duck in it.

Really see?
Visit the Bastide towns in the area.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Take advantage of the wild garden at le Manoir.
Take a walk around the dam of Lac Escourou.
Take a microlight flight from Miramont de Guyenne.

  • Beautiful house and location

Posted by Cathy S on 20/09/2016

The house is even more beautiful than it appears on the website with amazing facilities, loads of space to play games, lovely hideaway corners in the gardens for quiet drinks, easy to get to yet in the depths of the countryside, large bedrooms with comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, good sized swimming pool and very helpful hosts discreetly on site to answer any questions. We were only there for a week but can't wait to return for more!

  • A wonderful place to stay

Posted by William B on 17/08/2016

Three families of 4 stayed in July/August. An easy drive from Bordeaux or Toulouse. The House is huge and easily accommodated us with space to spare - the photos on the website do not do justice to this lovely place. Fabulous grounds and a great, well sized pool. Outbuildings with Bar (!) and a spacious recent barn conversion which would be ideal for a wedding or other large celebration. The nearby village is an easy stroll with a nice local restaurant and a fun village eat-out once a week. Good supermarket less than a 10 minute drive away. We cannot wait to return.

  • Our dream wedding!

Posted by Clodagh and Nick on 04/06/2016

We first saw the venue while the barn was undergoing a refurbishment and fell in love with it. We were so impressed with the plans and, having met Angela and Roddy and seen their taste reflected in the Manoir’s decor, we had complete confidence in the project.
We were not disappointed and, in fact, the finished product surpassed our expectations. From the Pigeonnier to the generous sized barn, the whole venue is magical. We draped fairy lights everywhere which helped to enhance that wonderful twinkly feeling.‎ In addition to its beauty, the whole place is very well equipped and has a trendy, purpose-built bar. There are so many different areas on site so there are little surprises around every corner. On the day after our wedding we had a picnic in the back garden/pool area and it felt like a completely new and fresh venue to that of the wedding day! We set up games all around and everyone had so much fun.
The neighbouring village is so picturesque and we (and our guests) really enjoyed exploring the area. Eymet (also very pretty) has a number of nice restaurants/bars and had enough accommodation for our guests.
All of our guests adored the experience and we have received so much feedback about how incredible they thought the venue was. Some examples: "Best wedding venue ever", "such a magical place", "I've already suggested that my sister get married there"‎.
Angela and Roddy‎ were incredibly kind and helpful throughout. They went out of their way to make sure we had the perfect day, even sourcing some children's cots for us and booking a restaurant for us during our stay. They genuinely cared which made the day even more special.
In short, we cannot recommend this place enough!
