Discover the delights of Burgundy in relaxed surroundings at this pretty home in a rural village in the wonderful Côte-d'Or region.
Formerly a bakery in the heart of the village, this holiday cottage has undergone a charming renovation into an inviting two-bedroom home with wonderful views of the village and valleys beyond. The bright living room features a log-burning stove for cosy evenings as well as a Smart TV. The sweet kitchen has its very own old-fashioned pantry and doors leading out to a pretty garden terrace.
Enjoy yet more uninterrupted village and countryside views from upstairs where two attractive bedrooms, one twin and a double, each have their own en suite shower room. Guests are made to feel comfortable with fresh white linen, fans, ample storage space and toiletries in the bathrooms. Youngsters are especially welcome with books and toys to help ease parents’ minds when travelling with children.
It may no longer be the village’s boulangerie, but you can still arrange for fresh baguettes and pastries to be delivered to your door each morning for you to enjoy, perhaps in the south-facing garden with enchanting village views. The lovely owners can also arrange delicious meals to be prepared for you, including a bespoke menu for the youngest of guests, or you can cook up a feast on the gas barbecue using fresh products bought from charming markets or local producers. Try the goats cheese from the neighbouring village too!
Visit the idyllic village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, where the movie Chocolat was filmed, or drive to the town of Venarey-les-Laumes and hire bikes for long cycle rides along the Canal de Bourgogne. Fontenay Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also not to be missed, nor is the captivating village of Semur-en-Auxois on the banks of the Armançon river. Staying at The Little Bakery is all about enjoying the simplicity of French country life whilst also having the opportunity to explore this wonderful region to your hearts content.

Outdoor Pursuit & Activities
In the heart of the Côte-d'Or, around an hour from Dijon, The Little Bakery enjoys an elevated position in an authentic rural village with lovely views over the rooftops towards the Burgundy countryside and beyond.
If you don’t wish to take advantage of the owner’s wonderful catering service, you can discover a choice of restaurants within a ten to fifteen minute drive whilst Venarey-les-Laumes (17km) is home to your nearest large supermarket and other useful amenities including a lovely weekly market. There is also a bakery in nearby Darcey (6km) or you can arrange to have pastries and baguettes delivered to your door each morning.
The beautiful village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain (15km) will surely be one of the first places you will want to visit with its idyllic setting. It’s classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and it is where the movie ‘Chocolat’ was filmed. Visit the two abbeys and purchase some of the traditional sweets, Les Anis de Flavigny, which have been produced in the village since the 16th century.
Historians of all ages will be keen to visit the Roman ruins at Alésia, near Venarey-les-Laumes, as well as the new open-air museum and visitors centre nearby. Fontenay Abbey (26km), dating back to the 12th century and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, is another remarkable day out close by.
Lovers of local food shouldn’t miss the atmospheric weekly markets in Semur-en-Auxois, Venarey-les-Laumes, Montbard and Beaune as well as the great city of Dijon, just 50km away. In July and August look out for villages and towns hosting summer night markets with live music, local wine and lots of regional food!
The Côte-d'Or region is of course famous for its fine Burgundy wines and there are many opportunities to visit a variety of amazing vineyards, both big and small, for exquisite wine-tastings. You are well positioned to drive to some of the well-known wine villages and towns in both directions with Chablis just over an hours drive to the north-west and Beaune around 90km south, allowing you to taste wines from both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune appellations.
The Region
Renowned throughout the world for its venerable wines, Burgundy is an essential destination for those who appreciate the finer aspects of the winemaker’s art. This is a region where you can visit some of the oldest and most prestigious vineyards in the world and taste wines that are regularly regarded as the best France has to offer (which is saying something). As one of the richest regions of France for hundreds of years, Burgundy also offers a wealth of history and culture as well as beautiful landscapes that offer the adventurous visitor plenty of stuff to do, even if it’s just a walk to admire the scenery.
