For those seeking peace and seclusion, the brand-new Villa Boena is the holiday home for you. This modern, two-storey property is nestled in the Croatian countryside, in the unspoilt village of Zagvozd, sitting in the shadow of the spectacular Mount Biokovo and only twelve kilometres from the coast and the nearest sandy shores. Villa Boena has four spacious double bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, ideal for a family holiday or a group of friends get-together. The two hundred square metre house is set in fenced-in grounds, surrounded by nature, with tall trees for shade and local shrubs for colour in season. The villa is constructed from classic Mediterranean whitewashed walls, with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that let in lots of natural light and open onto scenic view terraces and balconies. Villa Boena is surrounded by a tiled terrace home to your private swimming pool and well-maintained gardens. The villa has secure parking, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi throughout. The interiors are cool and contemporary, stylishly furnished with modern pieces, and decorated in a sophisticated colour palette of crisp whites contrasted with soft shades of grey and beige.

Enter the villa at ground floor level, where you will be welcomed with a light and airy, open-plan living space with picture windows that reflect mountain views. The seating area has a dove grey L-shaped sofa, coffee tables, a flatscreen satellite television, and an enclosed log-burning fire for those cooler months and evenings. The elegant steel grey, eight-seater dining set is ideal for some impressive indoor entertaining. The adjacent white and stainless steel kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances you will need to cater for your holiday, including an island with bar stools and that must-have morning coffee maker. The first of the four well-appointed bedrooms is on this floor, with a king-size bed, an ensuite shower room, and access to the pool terrace, perfect for rolling out of bed for a swim before breakfast. A guest cloakroom, with a washing machine, completes the ground floor. Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find three spacious double bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has a queen size bed, an ensuite shower room, and a mountain and pool view balcony. Bedroom three has two single beds, which can be converted to a king, and bedroom four has a king-size bed. These bedrooms share a family bathroom with a large glass-fronted walk-in shower and a furnished mountain-view balcony.

Step out onto the tiled terrace, where an artificial lawn surrounds a centrepiece step-entry heated swimming pool. Modern sun loungers are strategically placed to maximise the summer rays. Have a game of ping-pong, bounce on the trampoline, take your turn in the swing chair whilst the children have fun in the dedicated play area. Cool off under the outdoor shower, and there’s an outdoor loo too. Catch up with this year’s best-seller as you relax at the soft seating spot. As dusk falls, meet for cocktails on the terrace, and watch the sunset over the mountain. Prepare supper in the fully equipped summer kitchen, grill local delicacies on the built-in barbecue, then feast alfresco at the ten-seater dining set as the stars come out to shine.

Villa Boena can be found nestled in the countryside, in the unspoilt village of Zagvozd, at the foothills of Mount Biokovo, twelve kilometres from the resort town of Baska Voda, on the dramatic Croatian coastline. The villa is a scenic ninety-six-kilometre drive from Split International Airport. The village has a minimart stocked with provisions for your holiday, and a local restaurant for the days you don’t fancy cooking. The nearest beach is twelve kilometres away, in the picturesque town of Baska Voda, blessed with twenty kilometres of sandy shores and the calm waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Pine trees and a mountain backdrop provide a superb setting to enjoy dining alfresco by the seashore on freshly caught seafood on the Makarska Riviera. The town of Imotski is only seventeen kilometres from the villa, home to the fascinating natural phenomenon of the Red and Blue Lakes. It has an historic old town with stone streets and the tenth-century Topana fortress. The area is famous for hiking, cycling trails, bird watching, mountaineering, and free-climbing. Take the zip liner in Omis over the Cetina River, which flows down a magnificent canyon, and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the abundant natural flora and fauna. Alternatively, water raft or kayak down the river before viewing the canyon on the glass-fronted skywalk on Biokovo Mountain.

Take a fifty-minute drive to Split, the second-largest city in Croatia. Head straight to the historic third-century Palace of Diocletian, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the old town’s cobbled streets to discover local markets, iconic churches, the San Domnius cathedral, art museums, ancient ruins, and fortifications. Promenade along the front to Riva Harbour, and stop for a coffee and watch the boats sail by. See Jupiter’s Temple with its fascinating black marble sphinx. Make a day of it in the town of Solin, northeast of Split, originally known as Salona, once the ancient capital of Dalmatia and the birthplace of Emperor Diocletian.

Wander around the ruins of the Archaeological Park, then head north to the town of Klis and discover the medieval fortress where Game of Thrones was filmed. Take a trip to charming Trogir, sitting on a small island connected to the mainland and famous for its Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanesque architecture, medieval walls, a thirteenth-century cathedral, and St John’s chapel that has a bell tower with a view. Make sure you take a tour of the local vineyards and sample the delights of Croatian wine. Travel further afield for a full away day to the capital city of old Dubrovnik, the historic towns of Medjugorje and Mostar, or take a boat trip to the islands of Brac, Hvar, and Solta. In the evenings, enjoy dining alfresco under a Croatian sky. The village has friendly cafes and bars for an aperitif and a welcoming taverna serving traditional dishes.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s something for kids of all ages to see and do when you holiday in Villa Boena, set in the heart of the Croatian countryside. Starting with the villa’s private swimming pool, when it’s your own, and there are no set hours, they can splash and play all day. The villa has an artificial lawn with a dedicated children’s playground, a trampoline, and a ping pong table, which can keep them amused until bedtime.

The nearest beach is a twelve-kilometre drive in Baska Voda, with twenty kilometres of golden sands and easy entry to crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, making it safe for swimming and snorkelling. Highly recommended family-friendly beaches with organised facilities are; the blue flag Nikolina, with a lifeguard, bike, boat, and canoe hire; Podluka, with a children’s playground, parasailing, and a promenade the length of the beach, populated with cafes, bars, and restaurants; and the smaller Stazica, where they can play volleyball and jet ski. For your older kids, an adrenalin-rush water-rafting or kayaking on the River Cetina, quad biking over mountain ranges, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) may be just their thing. Let them try something new with a high-performance Sea Bob, or take a course and learn to scuba dive.

All the family will love the view at Omis from the skywalk glass-fronted platform over the Cetina River and canyon, where you can see the area’s natural beauty in all its glory. A Jeep Safari over the local terrain to discover the local flora and fauna and traditional villages is a great family day out. All aboard for a super day at sea, charter your own yacht, or join a tour, swim and snorkel to discover secret bays and hidden caves. Take a day trip to the natural landscape of Krka National Park, and walk around lakes, rivers, boardwalks, and trails, until you get to the impressive travertine waterfalls. Further afield is the National Park Plitvicka, an area of almost 300 km2 of exceptional beauty, attracting nature lovers worldwide.

A day trip to Split is a must, and they’ll love wandering around the Palace of Diocletian, discovering ancient ruins and fortifications, before enjoying a family-friendly meal in a local taverna. Hop on the boat transfer from Split to Bol on Brac, and spend the day on the fabulous Golden Horn beach. Take them to the historic town of Salona before visiting the medieval fortress of Klis, where they can see where the series Game of Thrones was filmed.
